Two Iconic images
When I saw this image and quote, it made me realize many things. I feel like now as a society we are so caught up in showing every accomplishment we have done on social media or to talk about our goals and visions that we want to do on social media. And because of this I feel like we pressure ourselves into being perfect and to think people are expecting from us but in reality no one is expecting anything from you when it comes to social media. Everyone takes their own pace and it's really a journey to be where you want to be. It doesn't have to be a perfect journey. So this quote made me realize I don't always have to tell everyone the good in my life or the good that I think is going to happen. For some reason I felt obligated to tell those on social media about the good in my life but sometimes it's ok not to tell. It's ok to make moves in silence, it's ok to accomplish goals in silence. Not everything about you is for everybody. I feel like people who constantly do this will eventually burn out because it did to me. I was putting unnecessary pressure on myself. It was my fault though but i'm glad I grew from that type of mindset, that its ok to keep the good news to myself and not feel like I have to share everything.

This below here has to be one of my favorite photos I've taken. Just by looking at it you can tell what the image is being told. This is a good friend of mine and he loves music just like me so I was over his place once and got a new film camera and just wanted to try it out and saw his instruments and I told him we should shoot so we did. I asked him how I wanted the photos to be so he basically modeled for me and they came out pretty cool. I have the film photos but couldnt find them so i'm glad I took some digital ones. I adore this photo as well because this is the type of stuff I like shooting and something I would like to do with journalism such as music, fashion and culture. Basically to get some iconic images.

About Me
My name is Debbie Martinez. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley and currently live in Granada Hills. I was raised in North Hollywood and moved to Granada Hills when I was about 9. My mom is from El Salvdor and my dad is from Mexico. Both my parents came to the US at a young age, they had to work right away to survive so they didn't receive an education when they came but now both have very successful jobs. I will be the first generation to graduate college so that's nice but also felt so much pressure from my family especially from my mom. My major is broadcast journalism. I'm not into hard news at all, I'm more into feature stories, something to do with either culture, music or fashion.I like hanging out with my friends, listening to music, shopping for clothes and watching movies and eating. I absolutely adore food but I'm plant-based so only if the food is basically vegan. I used to want to be a music composer for movies but I changed my mind and instead wanted to choose a more creative route like a visual journalist. I don't know where I see myself in 5 years exactly but I hope I'll be in New York city by then also having work as a visual journalist or to produce for a big news station.

Maura Friedman
Out of all the photographers I found Maura Friedman work to be the most interesting to me. Her photography reminds me of the photographer Nan Goldin. They have some similarities in both their work. I like the fact that Maura is capturing the raw, real life of the drag queen culture. From the very beginning of the creative process to become a drag queen and to the very end to the balls. Maura definitely captured culture in her images. The photograph below is my favorite photograph by Maura. The contrast and the cooler tone it has just makes the image so nice. The heels with the dollar bills is my favorite from this whole image.

This image below is another favorite of mine from Maura. The use of the rules of thirds and contrast is great. The culture of the drag queen is seen in this image. From her being the main focus to seeing the background, helps you understand the image if one didn't know about this culture.

One tip that I found very interesting and helpful was to have a photo fam. Basically a team/friends of photographers to help each other out with anything. From criticism to helping each other out. I never really thought of this until Maura brought it up, which I think is super helpful to all photographers especially beginners. This can help with visions, honest feedback and most importantly growth in your work. Also I learned that its best that I let the images and interviews tell the story and not be so quick to know everything about a story I want to tell. I should be ok with adding new information or being ok with learning new things I didn't know about the topic I wanted to photograph. All the photographers shown on the site were, again, very interesting. I loved every story that was told. I like diverse and those stories with those images were very diverse.Although, Maura had to be favorite photographer out of all of them on the site.
