  These books gave off the vibes of youma. She was almost sure of it. Kosuzu stared intently, trying to sense if it has any youkai presence. She can’t really tell this far away...

  Lost in her thoughts and all her focus on the books, she didn’t notice someone with a very dominating presence stop next to her until she spoke up.

  She looked away from the books, offended about what the girl was insinuating, but the words died in her throat when she saw the girl’s wings.

  A youkai. She decided to take back what she had in mind and reword it a bit more respectfully.

  「I-is that so? I don’t really have money on me right now, but my family’s book rental had a whole collection of rare books back home.」

  Didn’t the famous vampire back home have a mansion with a huge library, too? Marisa told her about it. This girl certainly gave off the same aura the letters Remilia sent, too...

The girl has her face pressed up against the window of a bookstore like an excited child, though frankly Remilia can’t see what’s so exciting about dusty, musty, rotting, ancient books. She’ll admittedly take one or two from Patchouli’s library from time to time – mysteries, fantasies, fictional adventures of all sorts – but she’s definitely no bookworm like her companion… or this one.

What is the character afraid of?

It isn’t fear, exactly, but she’s still rather suspicious of youkai. That and snakes. Ever since she read something about snakes eating people alive, she’s been pretty wary of snakes.

How do they deal with bad memories?

It would take a lot of things to make her regard something as a bad memory, but she would definitely avoid thinking about it. She’d even get rid of anything related to it.

What is this character’s role in a horror movie?

Definitely that one kid who gets too curious about something and gets possessed.

How do they hide their secrets?

Badly. She just avoids talking about it. The second someone gets suspicious and starts asking her about it, she’ll probably give in and spill the beans.

Which of the Seven Deadly Sins does the character relate to most?

Maybe greed. She knows for herself that yes, youma are dangerous. But does she care? Nope. Gotta collect ‘em all.

How does this character sleep? (Position, sleeping habits, bedtime routines)

Knowing her, she probably sleeps REALLY late since she stays up until 2 or 3 AM reading books. She has a lantern in her room, anyway, and her bed’s just surrounded by books.

What are their pyjamas like?

She just wears her under dress as pajamas in canon.

What do they dream about usually?

Youma? I guess. And whatever she reads about before she sleeps. Probably has those dreams with really green scenery and stuff.

How neat/tidy is this character?

Pretty dang messy, in my opinion. She knows where exactly she puts her books, but no one else could probably find their way through her room through all the books.

How affectionate is this character?

I see her being kind of touchy-feely with her closer friends.

  Funny that he decided to ask that. Kosuzu was, in fact, pretty sure she was melting. She had been just cooped up in her room, trying to bear with the heat with the malfunctioning air conditioner, but the heat was still overwhelming.

  「The main reason I went out today was to finally get clothes for this weather, but I think I might just die before I get there...」

  「Aha... I guess I ought to save up, then.」 Kosuzu skipped out on break time snacks a lot to save up for books often, after all, so she was pretty used to it. Well, this time might be a bit more difficult without the large stock of books they already had, but she’ll manage. Somehow.

  「...Who said I’ll be selling them...? I mean, er, I guess researchers would be interested? Akyuu and that mysterious lady were pretty interested in them, anyway.」 She didn’t bother to mention that both of them also warned her a lot about youma. 「I guess I can do that here. I mean, if there are youma here, they'll probably be really hard to find so there won't be enough to lend out or something.」

“It would be a good way to keep yourself afloat while we find a way out. The allowance they give us is barely enough to survive…” [Of course, Reimu was used to living off of a pitiful amount of money. In fact, what they gave her here was more than she normally used back home.]

“Really? I never knew the Human Village had such a large market for youma books. Even if you somehow find some here, I doubt anyone would be interested in buying. You may as well cut your losses and open a normal bookstore.”

  「Files? Digital...? Actually, you lost me. Aren’t files just papers? Phones are more confusing than I thought.」

  The one she grabbed from the kappa was certainly straightforward, after all.

  「I thought they were solely for communication.」

“What are you saying? They’re files! Everything’s digital these days! You can fit over a thousand songs onto your phone without using a CD!”

  「Open up shops?」

  Maybe there was actually something she could do other than youma hunting in here, then. Actually, if she opened a book shop, maybe she could even do both at the same time.

  「Maybe... while we’re still here, I could open up a mini-Suzunaan or something!」

  「Aw, but.. they’re precious merchandise! They’re a big part of Suzunaan, too, along with the imported books and such. And it’s not like I can do anything about the ones I already have, anyway.」

  Not that she’d let go of them that easily.

“It’s not as if people sit around and do nothing. Many of the taken go on and do other things, like make guilds to take care of the people here. Or open up shops.”

[The shrine maiden’s gaze narrowed. What they did was no worry of hers, but was it a means of survival or was it a show of surrender, as if they’ve decided they’d be stuck here forever?]

“…Wait, didn’t I just say to stay away from the youma? I meant back home as well.”

I honestly hope you’re not going to snatch it away or anything like that.

  「Do I really look like a snatcher...?」

  She shook her head, as if dismissing the thought forcefully. Kosuzu was curious, but not to that point. Rather, she’d just ask about it.

  ...Wait. Did the girl say grimoire?

  「Of course not! Um, I was just curious. Grimoire, you said? Like... a magic book?」

Alice just stared at the girl as she hesitated if she should say anything or go her own way, did she even look that lost? Well, a little girl just clutching a book everywhere she went would catch someones eye eventually, anyway.

Wandering the streets forever was not what she planned to do in her life anyway, how many hours has she been walking around anyway? The girl had no idea, as she had lost track along the way.

She finally decided to just ask the girl. Odd glances at her grimoire or not, she looked like she knew her way around the place, or at least had some kind of map? And she could ask about the weird stares shes making at her book.

「Perhaps I am, miss. But I’d also like to ask, why are you looking at my grimoire that way?」 She tightened her grasp on the book as she continued. 「I honestly hope you’re not going to snatch it away or anything like that.」

  「Like a record player? I didn’t know they can do that! From what I saw, phones way too tiny to play disks, though... or are there miniature disks?」

“You can use them to keep in touch with people! They’re also good for storing music, so you can listen to Nico-nii’s songs whenever you want!”

  「Ah, I suppose... But yeah, I don’t think anyone has a say in it at all.」

  「The scientists are really rude! Like, the people they whisk away have better things to do other than, uh. Be confused, I guess. That’s what I’ve been doing here lately...」

  Honestly. She could be all comfy in her chair, reading youma, but noooo. There’s also the fact that her parents might be worrying about her.

  「I really hope we get to go home soon, though... I miss my books.」

[Reimu’s response was abrupt, almost cutting off the other’s sentence.] “I’d rather not have more people from Gensokyo end up here. Not that I have much of a say in it all.” [Still, if anyone had to come, Reimu would prefer Akyuu to someone more troublesome like, say, Cirno.]

“She doesn’t need to come here. You’ll see her soon… since we’ll get home eventually.”
