DECOMPRESSED: Galaxy's Greatest Detective launches today

I'll be launching the sequel to DECOMPRESSED: Nuke Ops (and the continuation of the general Decompressed story) today. As always, readers are encouraged to visit the DECOMPRESSED Discord for the fastest updates. Various off-Discord archives will be created and their contents will be archived on a delay.

The MSPFA archive is currently down, or at minimum struggling to function, although the team there is working hard around the clock to restore it to full functionality. In the interim, I’ve set up an in-beta-testing Neocities backup archive! If you’ve struggled to re-read it or to recommend it to a friend in its current state, feel free to make use of that. It isn’t as fully-featured, but it’ll suffice for now.

Hey there friends: Another quick update!

Decompressed: Nuke Ops, a Gaiden story of sorts for Decompressed, has been going for about five months now. At its current state, it’s just barely longer than the original Decompressed Prototype. A larger team has joined me to contribute to it, including several archivists now maintaining off-site archives, which I’ll post here!

Decompressed is dead. And yet, long live Decompressed.

This comic, adventure, quest, or whatever term best suits it, experienced an overabundance of ambition. Animation, interaction, flash complexities, and other matters eventually caused it to become difficult to manage while also managing life and employment. While it will remain as an archive going forward, I will explore smaller-scale, lower-ambition projects of a similar nature until I discover my best formula. Or until I can connect with animators, artists, and musicians to provide that backup more effectively. Are you a creative who wants to contribute? Why not get in contact!

If you would like to join the next venture in the Decompressed concept and setting, I am making an effort to experiment in the space of Discord (of course, these efforts will be archived in a public, accessible space, linked here. After all, this was an archive of imageboard posts to begin with). If you’re interested, why not visit and input a command again, for old time’s sake?

Lets get those glasses and honk it up in virtual space! > CLOWN: Retrieve yon goggles, then adjourn to the potential vendor of seeds and attempt activation > Clown: Go into your caded cell and get the VR goggles You skip the whole derivative Mr. Noodle routine and go grab the thing. Time to see what digital space is like.

> I don't think we have a VR headset in the brig. You could swear you saw one around here earlier, though.

> Clown: Tell the AI to get Banana seeds for you, Law 2. Honk! That’s a good idea, but it looks like it’s a no-go. Botany isn’t growing any bananas right now! That’s apparently your job. Who knows what absurd superplants they’re making right now? It makes your clownblood boil just imagining them wasting the wonderfully slippery potential peels.

None of Asimov’s Three Laws of Robotics say anything about weird puzzle nonsense, so the AI tells you that the seed vendor is operated through virtual reality.

> CLOWN: Bother the AI until it tells you how it works. Annoying other people until they do what you want is true clownpower. The same principle applies to soulless automatons.

> Clown: try delivering yourself. Best prank ever! You get inside and pretend it’s like a little clowncar you can ride to freedom. Honk honk! The delivery chute’s automated voice says that no produce was detected for delivery, and so the delivery was aborted. It looks like you need to grow some food to make this deliver anything!

> Clown: Peer into fridge/cabinet. > examine the minifridge The little compartment thing opens when you prod the button on the top. It’s currently empty. As the door opens, it locks into the open position, and an automated voice informs you that the delivery chamber is now ready to receive a delivery. Whatever R&D did while renovating the brig seems to have gone pretty far.

You examine the weird thing. Looks like it has something to do with seeds? Hopefully it makes them? You immediately press all the buttons because of course you do, but it’s unresponsive. It looks like it’s ready and waiting for some kind of wireless signal!

> Clown: inspect the botany area. See if there's banan seeds in the vendor. Down to the garden it is. You load up that bit of the area. There’s two unusual pieces of machinery here, next to the water tank. (.gif load warning for those viewing via dashboard again. Tumblr’s staff deserve your scorn, and I, your bandwidth. -A)

> CLOWN: A honkie without a banana is a crime agaisnt humanity! Imediately procure more potassium enriched phalic vegetation, or madly request security/AI to deliver you some! If that fails, aquire Cheesy Honkers from the vending machines as a consolation prize. Okay, well, the shape of bananas isn’t really like that unless you’ve been doing indecent things to the Amigara Fault (HONK HONK HONK!!) but you do actually have some Cheesy Honkers, left over from your interactions with the Cyborg. These can recharge some of your prankster abilities! However, a banana will grant you massively increased utility and combat ability, so you add that to your goals:

Escape the Brig. Assist your accomplice. Acquire a Banana.

Now, where can you actually find a banana around here? There has to be a way.

> Clown: Attempt to pry the wrench from the wall. It’s stuck in there good and hard. Even your rather substantial Clown Vigor can’t get it to budge. You might need something else to get it out, but no doubt this thing will be crucial for many a prank.
