i hate a lot of the conversation on this website about work and capitalism, bc “some ppl are disabled and will never be able to work” is true but its not the end of the conversation. just like “theres no ethical consumption under capitalism” these are the starting points. the next steps have to be to imagine what our world would look like and how work will change under a different system that prioritizes human flourishing. then we might see that these new priorities could conceivably create ways of working and open up avenues for new types of work that look completely different and can accommodate a variety of disabilities that are simply impossible right now. like as much as ppl claim to hate capitalism on here, they continue to cling to thought terminating phrases and concepts which prevent them from entertaining even the idea that something different is tangible, possible, and worthwhile to strive towards and it pisses me off like crazy. ok back to love island

it turns out a lot of people are actually on the same page about whether or not they'd work if they didn't have to earn money, we just all seem to have wildly different definitions of what counts as work. i'll see one person say "of course i would, i'd still want to create art and volunteer in my local community" and another say "hell no i wouldn't, i'd quit work and just create art and volunteer in my local community" and then they look at eachother like they said something incomprehensible.
