hii i hope this isn't a bother, but are there any sources/books/biographies/docus/etc you'd recommend for reading more about william iii & his life? i finished i will maintain recently and really enjoyed it so i'd like to know more about him... thank you in advance 🙏!!

hi yes hello it is not a bother at all !! i just happen to be the wrong person to ask bc most of the information i get about william is from the bios/correspondences of OTHER people involved with him... not william himself. i think i just get a better idea of his character through the way he treats his politicians and friends. but i'll try to link up some stuff i really think is good...

also, the first thing you gotta do is finish that trilogy, anon. PLEASE they are some of the best books i've ever read, and bowen is very forgiving towards the politicians too !

this bio is my favorite, full of anecdotes following the misadventures of william and his beautiful blonde bf, also very good for the politics. it is a little old tho, little more than a century since it was published. but most of it holds up and it's goofy :] this one too is also very extensive but i don't like how weird it is about the potential homosexuality. i also haven't read it in its entirety but i like what i've gotten from it for the most part.

for something a little bit more complex is constantijn huygens' journal (from 1692-1696 specifically), which is already rough if you don't know dutch, and even more annoying is that i'm learning it and oh my god so many spellings are archaic/just whatever huygens thought sounded right. however, if you don't mind looking thru that and translating some stuff, there are some good stories in there. an annoying read but VERY rewarding. if not, the first bio i linked has a lot of those stories from huygens but i recommend the journal itself for the love of the game.

that's really it from me tho, for anything specific, bc all of my rlly niche sources are for william's loser cuck politicians. hell i'd say winston churchill does a pretty good job with william's reign in his usually REALLY FUCKING STUPID BIOGRAPHIES ON MARLBOROUGH.... and you also get a closer look at william if you're willing to sift through bishop burnet's very extensive history of his own time (first volume). even the more general british history books like a monarchy transformed aren't terrible with william's reign, they actually seem to respect him even! just a bit.

i think if you read even just one (1) bio u can get a good idea of his life (even tho i don't recommend it), but the thing about william is you never stop finding things about him. he is a lunatic. but luckily for us, everyone wanted him (contrary to popular belief; that is the hill i WILL die on), so we never run out of things to look thru :3
