Puebla City, México, November 2013
Like it is a tradition, each 1rst and 2nd of November it is celebrated the traditional Día de Muertos (Day of Dead), celebration that has its roots in the pre-hispanic culture.
Nowadays the celebration of the Day of Dead coincides with Catholic celebrations such as Día de los Fieles Difuntos (All Souls Day) and Todos los Santos (All Saints) which has change the way that people celebrated this festivity.
In Puebla, people take to the street dressed as resurrected skull of different characters of traditional Mexican culture, also people take advantage of this traditional celebration to show their devotion to their different beliefs as can be El culto a la santa muerte (the cult to Saint Death). Cementeries are also frequented by relatives and friends of the deceased who bring cempasúchil flowers which is a mandatory element in the traditional ofrenda (traditional altar for the dead).

Finished piece for tomorrow at the Red Bull House of Art in Detroit. This had to be super rushed last minute, so I’m very happy it came out the way it did. This is my first finished oil painting since college!

Been looking at some black figure pottery recently and that resulted in a gif of Athena’s least favorite gorgon lady seeking vengeance on a certain sea god.
