Summer 2016

In summer 2016 I once again went to Toronto and met up with some friends. First we hit up the degrassi street and degrassi park again, then the set the next day.  

This time the set visit was a bit shorter because they were filming (season 4 i think) we only got to take pictures in front of the school and dot, which I was totally fine with.  

We met Chelsea Clark who is honestly the sweetest person, and nothing like her character. As we were heading to the front of the school we stopped and took pictures with Chelsea in front of the panthers logo on the wall.

We talked with Ian and Chelsea about degrassi being on netflix and how they knew and had to keep it a secret from the fans and it was hard. Chelsea joked that she didn’t have a job.

Every time I see the front of the school I get excited. Part of me is like “wow they actually film the show here and here I am” We all took our photos in front of the school, some solo shots, groups and with Chelsea then headed to the dot.

Now at the time they had changed the dot look for season 3 and we weren’t allowed to share the photos. I waited till season 3 premiered to post the photo.

After the tour we waited for some of our rides and some of the cast came out and said hi. Amir came out first. He was so nice. I really wanted Dante to come out and say hi, and he did. I told him we were from the same city and he high five-ed me. I didn’t realize how tall in person he was. I forget which cast member it was, but they called Sara from inside and we got to talk to her over the phone. Spencer then came out to say hi. This is the second time I met Spencer.

After Spencer came out, I had to head back home unfortunately. Some of the other girls waited a bit longer and Sara and Jamie came over. I was sad I didn’t get to meet them, but I was happy that I did meet the cast I did.

2016 Fan Zone

I try my hardest to get to Toronto every summer and sometimes I go twice. 2016 I went twice once in March and the other in July, but we will get to the July story in another post.

Back in March 2016 I decided just a few days before March 12th to go to Toronto for the Canadian Screen Awards Fan Zone. Normally I travel from home but during this time I was away at school and went to Toronto from there. The only train from where I was to Toronto left around 6 am. It was different getting up at 4 am rather than 7 for my usual time.

I arrived early morning and met up with 2 of my friends at union station and headed over to the eaton centre for the event. We were in the first 100 people pretty close to the front of the line. As we were waiting we got interviewed about who we were most excited to see and of course we all said the cast of degrassi.

First I went over and talked to Ana and Ricardo. I told them how I traveled 4 hours that morning just to see them and they were shocked. I also told Ana I was wearing one of her lipsticks which I love the colour. We took group shot and solo selfies. Ana is so good at taking selfies. We chatted about the show and how we liked Zoemund.

Next we went over to see Jordan who played Adam. She was out of the area for the moment so in the mean time I met Justin Kelly and Shailyn Pierre-Dixon from between. Jordan going to the event was one of the main reasons I decided last minute to go. When she came back I told her about my traveling as well and she was so impressed. We chatted and one of my friends was even in her snap story. She was so sweet and I was so happy I got to meet her.

After we met the actors we shopped a bit then ate since the only train back was at 5 that night. It was such a fun day and I’m so glad I went.

Degrassi Set 2015

Now 2015 was a bit of a different trip. This year there wasn’t a parking lot party so I just went up to meet my online friends which I was so happy to. Talking to someone online is way different than meeting them in person.

So fast forward to July 21st 2015. Me and my friends decided to hit up a degrassi landmark ; degrassi park and degrassi street. This park was awesome and we actually played around for a bit. Then we took photos with the De Grassi street sign.

About an hour later we arrived at the set where we met some amazing people who gave us AN ACTUAL TOUR OF THE SET. We were thinking maybe they would let us get a picture in front of the school, but they let us see sets from next class. Unfortunately season 1 had not aired yet so we couldn’t take any of those pictures. As we were getting a tour we met Stefan Brogren

and Stephen Stone who is a producer of the show. It was quick but I got to meet Snake which was pretty awesome. I loved learning about how they film the show. I was impressed that the outside doors don’t actually lead into the same space as they do on the show and also they use the same street for everything. For example Eli and Clare only live across a small fake street instead of blocks away on the show. My favourite set was the Hollingsworth living room and seeing the pool. The pool brought back LA Complex memories. (anybody watch that?)

So i’m doing okay with no freaking out about being there until we see the front of the school and I lose my mind. Like it hit me that we were actually there. So as we were taking pictures in front of the school Amanda Accuri and Sara waisglass

come over and talk to us about the show and take a bunch of photos with us. These girls are the sweetest people. Frankie is one of my favourite characters so I got to tell Sara that and she was so thankful. She put her hands on her face and told me I was so sweet. At the time I had blue in my hair and so did Amanda so she had the idea to take a picture of us with our blue hair. That was awesome. Eric and Spencer came out for a brief moment to take a group photos because they were filming.  I later figured out that they were filming the first episode of season 2 when we were there. At the end they gave us degrassi water bottles that to this day I still use and love.

I’m so thankful for that experience and cannot thank everyone enough.

Parking Lot Party 2014

The next summer my dad, my friend and I all traveled back up to Toronto for the parking lot party. This party was a bit different. This year instead of getting a ticket for the line then leaving, we had to wait in line for our spot and this year it rained which was pretty ironic because the episode name was “thunderstruck” and it was a finale party not a premier. Also this year it wasn’t on a tv special, just clips from the party were shown on tv during commercials for the episode.

This time I wanted to meet cast I didn’t meet last year, and I did and some I did twice. I remember wanting to meet lyle and Niamh the most, and I did meet most. But once there I was more excited that Craig was there.

This also was one of the first times I got to meet some online friends.

I also remember flipping out over the triles kiss and Clare being pregnant. I think the reactions were my favourite part.

This party I got to meet stephen stone (x2), Craig Arnold, Charlotte Arnold (x2), Brendon Jeffers, Chloe Rose (x2) Annie Clark (x2) Olivia Scriven (x2) Ana Golja (x2) Niamh Wilson, Ricardo Hoyos (x2) Sara Waisglass, Sarah Fisher, Eric Osborne, Jessica Tyler (x2) Nikki Gould, Spencer Macpherson, Daniel Kelly, Lyle Lettau, Dale Whibley, and Shannon Kook-Chun (x2)

Also from going to both parking lot parties I hadn’t met Andre or Stefan. To this day I haven’t met Andre, but little did I know a year later I would meet Stefan on the set.
