Winston is the only child in his family, however, his parents consider him a disappointment. He was kicked out of several schools during his middle school years for his eccentric behavior. His parents threatened to send him to South Korea to live with his grandparents if he didn’t straighten up his act, and that scared him enough for him to pull it together. He settled into Degrassi just fine in terms of his academics and reputation with the administration, but his social life quickly came crashing down. Due to his obnoxious behavior and constant scheming, a lot of the students find him annoying but he has a few friends. The only thing that matters to Winston is the fact that he gets to stay in Canada if he keeps his grades up.

adam torres — ex-best friend → When Winston started at Degrassi, he immediately joined the broadcasting team and created a circle of friends there. He loved coming up with story ideas and working with the camera. His passion attracted the friendship of Adam, and the bromance blossomed due to their mutual love of videogames and comic books. Adam became comfortable enough with Winston to come out to him as trans, and his reaction wasn’t the best. The two were able to overcome it and return to normal, but that was all ruined when Winston tried to ruin Drew’s life. The two don’t talk now, but compete silently for everything. drew torres — enemy → Drew hates the nerds at Degrassi, but not as much as he hates Winston Chu. During the last school year, Winston attempted to get Drew expelled by conducting an an exposé for Degrassi news. The students who cared for their lives and wanted to remain in their proper place in the social scene told Drew before the segment aired. When he found out, he immediately went to the broadcasting class and made Winston delete all copies of the video. Winston is now banned from all parties, and considered a freshmen socially.

Like most of the scholarship students at Degrassi, Jake cares about his grades and works very hard to keep them up. His methods of studying are slightly different than the norm, as he’s usually high when he does it. Jake started smoking weed when he was in grade nine and hasn’t looked back. He usually smokes in the morning to get him through his classes, and again at night when he studies. Jake is a very bright boy and has plans of being a environmental scientist. He has organized projects for recycling and encourages his peers to be environmentally conscious as they go about their academic days.

Jake’s stoner habits drove Eli crazy, because of the constant smell that followed him everywhere he went. Jake hated the black that overtook half of the room and the emo music Eli listened to. Eventually the two learned to love each other, and became pretty good friends. Eli’s alternative style usually pushed male friends away, making Jake his first real best bro. The two run in different social circles, but they always discuss their days when they return back to the dorm. jack jones — friends → Jake caught Jack’s attention when he was handing out flyers for the environmentalist club. They began talking about their opinions on the school’s environmental health and became friends immediately. Jack is one of the only people who knows for a fact that Jake smokes, and has joined him a few times. They usually spend their time picking up trash or collecting recycling for the club, but they talk about anything and everything on their minds. Jake knows about Jack’s tiny crush, and gives her advice on how to survive the school.

Dallas was only 15 years old when he got a girl pregnant. Before he found out about the pregnancy, he had everything going for him. Dallas was the star athlete at his previous public high school, and was set to play in as professional hockey league after he graduated. When his girlfriend told him that she was going through and having the child, he took a semester off from school, and planned to drop out completely. Once his son was old enough to sleep through the night, his girlfriend encouraged him to go back to school and he chose Degrassi. They offered him a full scholarship due to his beautiful essay about his son in his application, and he is working to get back to where he was before his son was born. Dallas has fun along the way, but he is committed to the mother of his child and having a successful future.

Dallas, as a scholarship student finds Luke’s behavior extremely ungrateful, however he would never say this to his face. The two share a small dorm room, and do their best to keep the other from getting annoyed. Dallas hopes that he will be able to earn his spot as team captain during their senior year, but Luke knows he’ll be able to pay for it.

Cam grew up in a small town as the middle child of five children. His older brothers played hockey for as long as he could remember, and eventually he took to the ice himself. Cam’s brothers were hard on him, and in the end all the brutal hours of practice paid off. The boy eventually became better than his siblings and received an offer to attend Degrassi on an athletic scholarship. Cam agreed to go, despite having severe anxiety, and has found it difficult to blend with the rich snobs. He’s a loner, and typically spends most of his time in his dorm room, or listening to music in the courtyard. Cam works hard to keep his grades up, his head up and his stick on the ice.

Adam has always know that something was different about him. Growing up, he was into comic books and action figures rather than makeup and dresses like the rest of the little girls. As he got older, he came to realize that he was transgender and identified as a male. Adam was fine with the idea and had no problem making it known, as his family accepted him no matter what. He attended public school throughout middle school where he was bullied on a daily basis. His parents decided that Degrassi would be the best place for him, where he could focus on his academics and be himself without worrying about bullies. He is a typical gamer nerd, and has one of the highest GPAs in his grade despite his excessive fanboying.

Because of their free spirited career paths, they have taken a laissez-faire approach to parenting. While he was growing up, their only rule was that Eli stay in school and graduate on time. Luckily for them, Eli had a natural talent in writing and became passionate about all things creative. He avoids the popular kids at school, but he won't hesitate to call people out for their actions. Eli is considered one of the creative leaders on campus and takes pride in all organized artistic activities.

Being part of the wealthiest families in Toronto hasn’t done anything to keep Hunter from being socially awkward. From a very young age, he kept his distance from the other kids and spent a lot of time alone in his room. His parents tried to get him to be more social, but over time they just allowed him to do his own thing. When he attended public middle school, his grades fell significantly because of his interest in gaming, so his parents sent him away to Degrassi so that his computer time would be limited and his education would come first. Hunter hates being at school, and uses every spare second to connect to the Realm of Doom servers.

Hunter has a crush on Arlene, but she has no idea that the boy has feelings for her. The feelings may be mutual, but no one at Degrassi would know due to Arlene’s loner status.
