Un megaproyecto para la explotación de gas natural licuado amenaza con transformar el Golfo de California —conocido históricamente como el Acuario del Mundo— “en una zona de sacrificio para la industria fósil”, aseveran expertos de más de 30 organizaciones ambientalistas. Estas aguas son el hábitat permanente y para la migración del 85 % de los mamíferos marinos de México, por lo que se teme, particularmente, por el desplazamiento y muerte de las ballenas y delfines.

El pasado martes 10 de septiembre, en una conferencia de prensa virtual, 30 organizaciones ambientales, climáticas y de enfoque marino presentaron la campaña “¿Ballenas o Gas?”, cuyo objetivo es la cancelación de un megaproyecto gasífero promovido por la empresa Mexico Pacific, que cuenta con el respaldo de la Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE).

El proyecto contempla la construcción del gasoducto “Sierra Madre” que, con sus 800 kilómetros, atravesaría el noroeste de México —partiendo desde Texas, en Estados Unidos, y pasando por los estados de Chihuahua y Sonora, en México— hasta el Golfo de California, donde se instalaría una terminal de licuefacción de 400 hectáreas, llamada “Saguaro Energía”, en la comunidad de Puerto Libertad, Sonora.

La leche provenía principalmente de pequeñas granjas y establos ubicados en las afueras de la ciudad, como en Mixcoac, Tacubaya o incluso áreas de Xochimilco y Tlalpan. Los lecheros ordeñaban a mano las vacas y preparaban la leche para su distribución.

Debido a la falta de tecnología de conservación, la leche debía distribuirse lo más pronto posible tras el ordeño. Los habitantes solían comprarla fresca cada mañana para su consumo diario.

On September 11th 1973, US-backed General Pinochet overthrew the democratically elected leader of Chile, Salvadore Allende. Pinochet ordered an air strike on the Presidential Palace, labor activists and famous folk guitarists were rounded up for torture, disappeared, and killed. Pinochet converted the national football stadium into a detention facility like Guantanamo Bay. Chile’s economy was turned into a plantation for the 1%, as inequality and poverty skyrocketed under the imposed Milton Friedman-style economic model. Over 40,000 Chileans became victims of Pinochet’s terror. In response, the Nixon administration committed more money, more training, more torture equipment. The world didn’t begin on September 11th, 2001. Rather, for the first time in modern history, Americans were visited by the same violence the US has imposed since its creation. In Chile, the US murdered tens of thousands and impoverished millions. This wasn’t America’s first foray in international terrorism, nor would it be the last. The United States security state is a terrorist and a plague on the people of the world.
