If you're a NYC voter, I urge you to rank @zohrankmamdani and @brad.lander at the top of your ballot for mayor. Now is the time for Democrats to build on what the Democratic Party used to do before it tried to move to the “center.” Comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. Strengthen safety nets. Take on corporate greed. Make the super-rich pay their fair share. Fight for unions. And shepherd an economy where profits are shared with the workers who make them possible. Because there is no center between a government of oligarchs — and a government of the people.

I don’t tell you this to make you upset. I tell you this so you know the truth. Surrendering to Trump’s tyranny only invites more of it. We don’t have to give in. We must call on Congress to reassert its power — and vote to stop Trump from taking further military action. Presidents cannot start wars without Congressional approval. We must remain vigilant in guarding against Trump using any military conflict as a pretext to attack our freedoms. Please, be safe. Be strong. And do your best to stand up against this unlawful Trump regime.

Thinking about post veilguard rookanis like I always am and today I'm mulling over Illario and Caterina's reactions because like... there's been very many discussions about whether Caterina would like/dislike accept/not accept Rook and I don't think it's that simple. I think at first she assumes it's casual like it's always been for Illario because surely Lucanis wouldn't be that stupid? Surely he wouldn't fall in love and give himself that big of a weak spot? And then... Rook sticks. They get engaged, they're planning a wedding, Rook is already helping with First Talon things and it seems like that is actually the one thing making it bearable for Lucanis. And how the fuck is she supposed to handle that? Her poor little boy... is Rook good enough to stay alive for him? Should she kill Rook now to avoid heartbreak in future? Lucanis... what have you done?
And then Illario... man what would Illario think? Here is his cousin who has never shown any interest in the myriad of people Illario has seen show interest in him (because lets face it Lucanis is a handsome man there had to have been some Crows going 👀👀) so of course when Rook happens he probably thinks like oh it's a first love infatuation thing I remember when that happened to me. Three months from now I'll have the old Lucanis back and then... thag doesn't happen? Rook is a Dellamorte now. For so long it's only been the three of them and now... Cousin, you're really in love? I just like thinking about the idea that both of them don't really click how deeply Rookanis care for each other until it's way too late to do something about it

the particular way lucanis on the forgive illario path says 'no no you're right. he's family' is SO funny tonally (very much intentionally so I think). it's so low-key and out of proportion with what's going on. he makes it sound like the matter of discord here is something like illario getting a bit in his cups during lucanis' wedding and overturning a few tables and throwing the cake into a canal out of spite or something, not like. the attempted murder and deliberate if feeble deception and also treason and blood magic and harrowing imprisonment that very much did happen. just little crow things <3 their priorities are rancid and their style impeccable treviso will be free

Spite learning how to change his form eventually so he doesn't always have to look like Lucanis if he doesn't want to. mostly he just uses this to try different outfits and hairstyles, plus make silly faces at Rook (and one--ONE--Viago jumpscare that he has to promise to never do again)
but sometimes he just flies around as a raven. Rook wonders why he wouldn't choose a crow, until one day he perches next to a flock of actual crows and it immediately becomes clear that he is Crow But Bigger Than You

Why so many on his mouth, I wonder. Does he have a bad habit of holding blades in his mouth to look badass?

I do think Illario has Gomez Addams wifeguy potential, but it’s got to be that kind of freak4freak energy. Zara was a mundanely selfish kind of freak. He needs a straight-up freak freak.
Maybe he meets a Mourn Watcher during the final battle. Maybe she saves his life or they get trapped somewhere. And he’s being his usual self, and then this gorgeous goth woman just looks at him.
Watcher: You’re a funny little man. I’m going to break you.
Illario: …
Illario: Okey-doke.
Years later, after they’re married, he goes to Treviso for a family visit dripping grave gold and wearing way more eyeliner.
Lucanis: (talking about something cool Rook did on a contract)
Illario: My wife was interrogating a guy, and she ripped his heart out and then kept him alive for over an hour so he could watch it beat in her hand. He told her everything she wanted to know and more.
Lucanis: …
Illario: I love her so much.
Decades later, after they’ve died, they’re often spotting dancing in various locations around the Necropolis. And the Watchers tell the apprentices not to worry, that the Dellamortes are actually quite kind. But don’t interrupt them if they’re kissing. They will both hiss at you, and you will have nightmares for a week.

The phrase “due process” has been coming up a lot in the news lately, and it seems like way too many people somehow don’t know what it means
I’ve heard people say that only US citizens are entitled to due process. I’ve heard people say that you don’t deserve due process if you’ve broken the law. If you’re in the country illegally, if you’re a member of a gang, if you’ve committed a violent crime. The problem with putting any condition on due process is that
“due process” is just the process of finding stuff out.
Due process is finding out what your name is, your citizenship/legal status, your gang membership, your criminal history. Due process is finding out whether you’ve committed a crime, based on what evidence and defense is presented to a court. (I do believe due process also includes fair sentencing, ie after it’s determined that you have committed a crime, then there’s a process to determine what your punishment should be; but this rant is about the “finding out” part)
If we grant that any particular category of people isn’t entitled to due process in the US, how do we find out whether someone belongs to that category without first applying due process? without due process, police can just point at anyone they want and say “they’re a gang member, arrest them,” and then never check whether they are in fact a gang member.
due process is not some privilege reserved for respectable law-abiding US citizens. due process is how we find out who you are and what you’ve done, instead of just going by “trust me bro.” without due process, there’s nothing to stop you - the person reading this - from being deported on a whim without ever getting a chance to say “but I’m not a criminal”
