Beyond Pancakes (Quite Literally!)
Recently Mr A and myself finally made time to visit Beyond Pancakes!
Beyond Pancakes is a recent Halal-Certified establishment selling pancakes and more, taking the name quite literally.
They offer pancakes (sweet and savoury), pasta, pizza and more.
Mr A of course is a total sucker for pasta so he had the Spaghetti Bolognaise and I of course had the Pancake Stack.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What I absolutely love about the place is the fact that their Pancakes Stack is customisable! Comes in short (2pcs) medium (4pcs) and tall (6pcs) stack, you may choose a variety of flavors for the pancake itself such as chocolate chip, blueberry, strawberry and more. After which you can choose your toppings and lastly, top it up with a scoop of ice cream!
The mains are also pretty decent. Good sizing but nothing special tbh.
I also personally feel that the place is quite pocket-friendly. And the best way to make the best out of it is to eat with a friend so you can order one sweet and one savoury dish to enjoy.
Their pancakes stack price starts from $8.90 onwards. Their mains are also approx. similar prices.
D’EA Verdict
Honestly pancakes to me is like the ultimate comfort food so if you’re asking if I would return, my answer is a big fat YES. While the menu could do with some improvements, ultimately I enjoyed my experience there and will return again.

Paddington House of Pancakes
Hey all,
D’EA is back with another post!
Tumblr media
This time is about the newly halal-certified PADDINGTON HOUSE OF PANCAKES *fanfare* *standing ovation* *stomping routine*
Okay I’m actually crazy excited to talk about PHOP cos I am a super huge fan of pancakes so yes! Here goes~
PHOP has been in Singapore for awhile and the craze and hype was as a matter of fact over the intense number of pancakes available. I’m talking 100 different types of pancakes okay guys? If that itself isn’t amazing enough for you, KEEP READING!
PHOP is located on the 2nd floor of City Square Mall and it offers an extensive selection of sweet & savoury pancakes & crepes. 100 of them.
As soon as I opened the menu, I went “omg! so many to choose from, I need a minute”. A minute turns out to be 25 mins. Yes I took 25 mins to digest the menu(not literally ok people!) . Since Mr A and myself wanted to go for a little of both we finally settled for the Wellington and the Pot of Gold.
The Wellington pancake is a pancake made of wholemeal batter with a sprinkle of sesame seeds to exude the same “feeling” of a burger bun but at the same time is completely different, served with layers of cheese, hashbrown, chicken and barbecue sauce and a side of fries. Sounds kinda weird right, considering it’s initially still a pancake? Will it work? That was the only thing on my mind whilst they prepared our food.
(pardon me if my description seems abit weird, I’m having a hard time remembering; considering there were more than 100 pancakes on the menu, it was so hard to remember!)
Wellington ($14)
Tumblr media
When the Wellington was served at our table, the both of us literally looked like we just saw a slice of heaven. With widened eyes and nostrils (trust me the smell was borderline intoxicating) we dug in like it was our last meal on earth. Okay that was abit exaggerated but you get what I mean! Such beauty cannot be described in words! :)
I’m telling you, the combination works! All my worries were put at ease with every bite I took. The chicken the sauce the pancake works so well together it was like a party in my mouth. We wiped out the plate in more or less 20 mins.
And then we tried out the Pot Of Gold for our sweet dessert choice.
The Pot of Gold is basically dollar pancakes (mini pancakes) served in a bowl with nuts, marshmallows, ice cream and chocolate sauce dip. Simple enough, can’t go wrong with that.
Pot of Gold ($10)
Tumblr media
The Pot Of Gold was delicious. Combining the cold ice cream with the piping hot dollar pancakes, and the result you get will blow your mind. It was so good, I ate more than half of the serving, Mr A only had a few pieces. Heh.
We left PHOP with big fat-kids smiles, contented and sated.
D'EA Verdict
I am recommending PHOP to all my readers, especially if you are a fan of pancakes. Paired with great service, you definitely cannot give this place a miss. There is a choice for everyone so no one can complain on the lack of choices. I’m gonna say it again. 100 pancakes. 100. Trust me, we all have choices.

This is not goodbye
First of all,
I would like to sincerely apologize for neglecting this space. I have the tendency of updating once and then disappearing for months on end without a reason but this time I really do. Have a reason that is.
Ever since the mini launch of my business D’Ellacious, I have been receiving orders pretty often so between my job and the constant bake orders, it spares me very little time to update. I’m sorry! And also because Mr A was overseas for a month, he was unable to bring me around to cool cafes to sip on lattes and comment on the workmanship of the interior designing.
Anyway I’m only here for a short while to update on my living status. Alive. Not dead.
I will be back!
D’EA

Simplicité Café
Do you like IKEA? Would you want to have a cup of coffee in a place like IKEA?
Well Simplicité is the place to be.
Recently, Mr A & myself decided to give Simplicité Café a visit after riding past it many many times.
I am a big fan of white walls and benchwood furnitures.
And Simplicite offers exactly that.
True to its name, Simplicité Café's concept is just that. Simple. It's spacious and brightly lit and the white walls and benchwood tables and chairs are aesthetically pleasing. Just the way I visualize a perfect hangout place to be.
Tumblr media
Simplicité signature item is their Blossom Waffles($11.00 with 1 scoop of Gelato). We didn't try that unfortunately. Instead we went for the Classic Waffle with a scoop of the Chocolate Valrhona Gelato($8.50). Simplicité offers a range of yummy yummy gelato & sorbets ($5 per scoop) however I am a sucker for Chocolate so Chocolate Valrhona gelato it was!
What I really love about the waffle and gelato is the lightness of the waffle and the combined taste of hot waffle and cold gelato. The batter of the waffle is not too sweet so it lets you taste sweetness of the gelato. It's unexplainably amazing. I feel like I've finally lived(okay la abit exaggerated but really! So nice!) Also because of the lightness of the waffle, you need not worry about not being able to finish it. Trust me! You will be able to finish it and you will be thinking about getting a second round.
D'EA Verdict
It is definitely on the list of my favorite cafes. The service there is amazing. I love great service. And this place gives it exactly how I like it. Kudos!
Ambiance: 5/5 Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Accessibility: 4/5 (for motorbikes at least because the parking around that area is ridiculous for cars but no problemo for motorbikes. Far from MRT stations so best transport choice would be bus or taxi)

Address: 425 East Coast Road Singapore 429012

A/n : Mr A & myself made a return trip a few days ago and I'm still sticking to my words about it being one of my favorite cafes thus far :)

Butter Studio
Hey ya'll!
Before I begin...
HAPPY 2015!!!!
Okay I apologise for the long untold hiatus. Both Mr A and myself were very busy these past few months so that was unavoidable. Nonetheless, things are slowing down by alot so I finally found time to update.
Anyhoo, enough with the chit chat, let's get down to business *rub hands together*
Okay this entry will be on
                                            BUTTER STUDIO
Tumblr media
Okay so recently again, Mr A and myself decided to give Butter Studio a try while we were walking around in the area.
What really stood out for me is the Halal Certification. that is displayed right at the cashier counter. So, for all my Muslim friends out there, this cafe is one of the cafes you should definitely check out. And also, the amazing display of cupcakes and tarts and macarons and cakes. *drools* I'm telling you, there is just so much to choose from. You will be spoilt for choices there. The interior of the cafe is also well decorated. The designers must have really put in alot of effort in the deco. Really nice.
Okay so Mr A and I shared a Turkey Bacon Melt French Toast($13). For drinks I had English Breakfast Tea & Mr A had the Iced Tea.
Tumblr media
Okay so the Turkey Bacon Melt French Toast. The platter basically consists of some Turkey Bacon sandwiched between the French Toasts with melted cheese melted all over the toasts and with some chips on the sides. And maple syrup was drizzled all over the toasts. At first I was quite taken aback by the maple syrup because I really dislike it when sweet & savoury are combined(?) together. So I took my first mouthful in hesitation. And it was ABSOLUTELY TOTALLY DEFINITELY SINCERELY delicious!!! This platter, really made me change my mind. It was delicious. So if you readers want a recommendation, I recommend this.
                                    Turkey Bacon Melt French Toast.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately we didn't get the chance to try out the desserts as we had to rush off almost immediately after we finished the plate of french toast. Thank God I didn't get indigestion. Nonetheless, we will definitely return to Butter Studio in the near future as BS has opened kiosks at Takashimaya Food Hall and also at the Basement at One KM. So when we get the chance to get some of the sweet treats, I will be updating again!
D'EA Verdict
Not much to say since the only thing we got to try is the French toast (and it was delicious or may I say DELLACIOUS. heh). Butter Studio seems very promising so we will not think twice about revisiting.

Windowsill In The Woods
Hey guys!
It's been awhile. Sorry I've just been tremendously busy with work ): haven't really gotten the chance to sit down and type out a decent post.
Anyways! This will be a post dedicated to Windowsill In The Woods
Windowsill In The Woods specializes in artisanal pies.
Mr A and myself found time to give it a visit.
Before that I would like to commend on the amazing interior and exterior design of the cafe itself.
If you happen to walk along Horne Road, you will definitely notice the amazingly attractive exterior of the cafe. The exterior looks something like the exterior of a house in the woods. Is it called a loghouse?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
See what I mean? Totally eyecatching.
The interior was really cosy and homey. It was a rainy day when we went so we had a wonderful time just relaxing there.
We tried out the S'mores Pie which was pretty good. The pie is filled with gooey milk chocolate pudding and sticky dark chocolate fudge, topped with marshmallows. Together with the graham cracker base I personally felt like it was a nice combination. We paired up the pie with a pot of Gryphon's French Breakfast tea. Great combo on a rainy day if I could say so myself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I would say all in all, Windowsill is the place to be if you feel like trying various pies but if you're looking for a variety of desserts, I'm afraid you won't be able to find that here. As mentioned, the cafe only specializes in pies :) Also, please be prepared to burn a hole in your pocket because the pies do not come cheap!
D'EA Verdict
IMO, I felt like the pies were overpriced. The S'mores pie costs a whooping $8 and nothing could justify it. The pie portion was small and eventhough I quite like the taste of the pie, the heart ache I felt due to the measly size of the expensive pie was enough to not make me wanna come back for awhile.

So that's all folks!
Till next time

TWG
Tumblr media
Hey readers!
Long time no see~
I'm back with another post, this time dedicated to TWG
So most of you probably already know, TWG is known as the one and only upscale tea salon in Singapore so I naturally would want to try it. Despite the fact that I am more of a coffee person than a tea person, I have to admit that TWG's concept really got me curious. TWG sells not only tea but also tea-infused food like pastries and desserts.
So for starters(newbie with 0 tea knowledge) I was absolutely overwhelmed by the selections of tea so I ordered the regular English Breakfast Tea & Caramel Tea. Teas served at TWG are sold by teapots btw so I honestly thought "hmmm what if the tea is too much for me?" But not to worry, the teapots holds just enough tea for 3 cups. The cups aren't big either so yeah.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We went for the 1837 teatime set which consists of a pot of tea, two muffins/scones and one tea jelly served with whipped cream.
And also because I am a huge fan of macarons, I ordered two tea-infused macarons as well.
Okay so I started with the English Breakfast Tea. It was absolutely amazing. Nothing like the typical English Breakfast Tea you drink from anywhere else. It was perfectly brewed. I was so impressed because really, the fragrance and the taste was truly much better than any other EBT I've tasted.
Tumblr media
Next I tried the Caramel Tea. Right from the moment I poured out the tea into my cup, the sweet scent got me exclaiming "oh my goodness! Wow!". The scent was amazing. Truly sweet. The taste was even better. I really wish I had the chance to try more teas because I was truly happy with both the tea choices.
Next, the desserts!
Tumblr media
The outer texture of the muffins look pretty hard so I was worried about it but as soon as I pushed my fork & knife into the muffin, it was really soft and nice. The chocolate muffin had cranberry bits in them and the teacake muffin which tasted a little like Madeleines also has some type of berry in it. I don't really like fruits in my desserts but still the muffins were as good as anything.
And then last but definitely not the least..... The Tea-Infused Macarons!!!! Oh my goodness I could go on and on about them because they were absolutely delicious and spectacular and scrumptious. The Earl Grey Fortune & Chocolate macaron had a subtle scent of earl grey tea which makes you wanna smell it and smell it and smell it but I managed to contain myself. The Napolean Tea & Caramel was really sweet too. Tea and Macarons are truly a good combination. Trust me.
Earl Grey Fortune & Chocolate and Napolean Tea & Caramel flavored Macarons *drools*
Tumblr media
And then we finished our tea time with the tea jelly and whipped cream which was also absolutely delicious and then we washed down everything with the last of our teas.
It was worth every single cent of my money. Truly. Right from the food to the service. Everything was just impressive. We were treated and taken care of so well by all of the staffs especially Catherin whom went the extra mile to fix our table for us,made suggestions and recommendations for us and even made sure we were cosy and comfortable during our entire time there. Thank you so much!
Well and that's it for my TWG experience!

Maison Ikkoku
Hi readers of D'EA!
So last weekend I went out with Mr A to try.... MAISON IKKOKU!
I've heard fairly good reviews about Maison Ikkoku and figured I should give it a try.
When we arrived at Maison Ikkoku on that fateful Sunday, some of the cakes were sold out so our selection was pretty limited.
We sat indoor which was pretty cosy but tbh, I wasn't absolutely impressed with the interior design of the shop. They had cupboards suspended on the ceiling so throughout the whole time I was sitting there, I was worried that the cupboard on top of my head might just fall on me :( But honestly, that's just me. Mr A likes the vintage feel of the cafe.
I for one, really like the menu design. (Papers on clipboard. Simple. Very minimalist. I like)
Tumblr media
So anyway, Mr A and I decided to settle for the Oreo Chocolate Fudge Cake. We only ordered 1 cake, reason being we were afraid we might not be able to finish 2 cakes since we had a really heavy meal before coming to the cafe.
                          Oreo Chocolate Fudge Cake (S$8.50)
Tumblr media
Trust me when I say this... The Oreo Chocolate Fudge Cake was not disappointing at all. Beforehand, I was worried that the Oreo and Chocolate Fudge combo might be too much(?) but surprisingly the cake was fantastic.
The cake was light and moist and the combination of the oreo and chocolate fudge was praise-worthy. Because of how light the cake was, I could take huge mouthfuls of the cake without feeling 'muak'(nauseous) thus leaving only a quarter of the cake for Mr A to try. Ooops. heh. In fact I whined that I wanted another cake after that but sadly, most of the cakes were gone so we shall return!
Also the cake wasn't crumbly and dry which was a huge plus for me. I for one, really don't like crumbly cakes because the crumbs will somehow always end up scattered all over the table or my lap or my shirt no matter how careful I've been. so yeah.
We had Iced Mocha alongside the cake. Quite honestly I have nothing much to say about the iced mocha. It wasn't anything special. Maison Ikkoku however do have a range of brewing methods for their weekly roasted specialty coffee. So for those brewed coffee lovers, this cafe might just be the one for you.
Another picturesque photo taken by Mr A.

The Muffinry
Hey guys! Alright today, I would like to dedicate my first post to the cafe that is the closest to my heart. The place where it all started:- THE MUFFINRY! *fanfare*
Tumblr media
About 2 years ago, while I was riding Vicky with Mr A, we rode past The Muffinry while searching for the Capital Tower in its vicinity. Mr A wanted to stop by and check it out but as we were on quite a tight schedule, we decided to forgo it with promises to return again another day to try it out.
Another day turns out to be 5 months later.
I remember gaping at the nice cosy interior of the cafe, amazed by the wall of test-tubes filled with coffee beans (more about this later) and the wooden floors and the classic typewriter in the corner. We came in as rookies in the cafehopping industry and was clearly lost in the various selections of drinks and desserts. After about 2 minutes, a guy came to help us along (I'm so sorry up to this day, I am still feeling regretful that I failed to ask for your name) and he introduced us to their various cakes and muffins and tarts and their drinks as well. He was very accommodating and friendly, we were completely surprised because honestly, back then we were so young. Why would people treat us with importance right? But this guy really treated us well. We got settled in on the 2nd floor (the cafe has 3 floor seating) and decided to give the "safe" choices a try. How could we go wrong with a simple muffin and a smoothie right?
Our first purchase from The Muffinry was their Double Chocolate (Valrhona) Muffin & Banana Chocolate Muffin & we had Banana Bliss Smoothie and English Breakfast Tea for drinks. I already had 2 cups of coffee at work before the trip so I had to spare myself and ordered tea for a change.
We were blown away.
The texture and the taste of the muffins were seriously shiok. No other words could possibly describe it except shiok. The Double Chocolate (Valrhona) muffin was so well made, it didn't make us feel like the chocolate on chocolate was too much or overwhelming. It was just right. Even the Banana Chocolate Muffin was great. The banana taste balanced out the chocolate taste so well, we didn't feel like there was too much banana or too much chocolate in the muffin. In other words, the ingredients in both muffins were so well balanced that we wiped out the plate within minutes. Nothing was spared.
We washed down our muffins with the Banana Bliss Smoothie and the English Breakfast Tea. Nothing much to say about the tea cos well, it's tea. Can never go wrong with tea. The Banana Bliss Smoothie though wasn't bad at all. I'm not really into banana flavored drinks but Mr A loved it! Nonetheless I was still pretty damn satisfied with the entire experience as a whole. We spent close to 3 hours there just chilling and watching GI Joe on Mr A's laptop while enjoying the ambiance of the cafe. We decided on that day that The Muffinry will become "our" place therefore on that very first trip there, we enrolled onto the BEAN PROGRAMME!
The Bean Programme is basically a rewards system in which you get an empty glass test tube and tag it with your initial, pseudonym, symbols (whatever you want, get creative!) and then you hang it on the wire racks. For every time you make a trip to The Muffinry, you put one coffee bean into the glass tube and when the tube is filled to the brim let them know & you will be rewarded with:
One cup of coffee and two muffins; or
Two cups of coffee; or
Three ripe bananas
ON THE HOUSE!
And then you empty the tube and start all over again!
Fun right?
So we enrolled on the programme, and in other words, swore our loyalty to them and have been visiting the cafe whenever we can(less frequently now since Mr A is currently serving NS).
We left the cafe on that day incandescently happy with a handful of free muffins*(see footnote) and a big smile across our faces.
I'm recommending The Muffinry to my readers with a promise that you will not be disappointed!

Regards, D'EA
*the free muffins was given to us as we left just a few minutes before closing and the really nice guy who helped us along told us that they make their muffins fresh everyday so since they still had a few muffins left, it would be a waste to bin them. So we got to bring home some!

First Post: Birth of a Blog
Hey everyone, After much thinking and contemplating and procrastinating and consulting Mr A, I've finally decided to open a blog for my cafe adventures! A little bit about me, I'm a 23 year old cafe enthusiast. I love desserts, coffee and long talks and I love places that allows me to have all three. I usually post pictures on my instagram but I feel like just posting pictures is not enough to express the way I feel. True that a picture speaks a thousand words but I sort of want to write more than a thousand words. heh. Thus this blog is being born for that sole reason. To express my opinions and thoughts about the cafes I visit. Mr A has been chauffeuring me around the island on Vicky (yeah that's his pet name for his trusty motorcycle) to try out different cafes, so my adventures have been made possible because of him. Please give him a hand. Oh, and Vicky too. The first cafe post will be up really soon so watch this space! Yours sincerely, D'EA
