Why the “Elites of the North” Hate Duterte?
I hated politics ever since I knew it existed. I started living in Davao City when I was a growing teenager and that was the only time that I liked politics so much because I never knew that politics can be as clean as the streets in Davao City. It is because of the Dutertes’ administration. I have given up with the state of the Philippine government because I once knew that Mr. Rodrigo Duterte will never run as a president, until year 2016, he decided that he will. That was the only time that me and my family had high hopes for the development of the Philippines because we all knew that it’s so hard to stumble upon a president that will actually care for the nation like a real parent.
And gladly, Duterte won with 16 million votes.
It’s still the first year of his administration but indeed, during the first few months, just like how he said in his campaigns, we were able to feel the change in the streets of the Philippines. Not only in Davao, but also in Cebu, where I now live. No more filthy pick pocketers, ruthless thieves and domineering beggar syndicates.
But still, I realized that even if Duterte won as the president, I am still disappointed with politics not because of Duterte, but because of the division of one nation through different political beliefs. It happens in all countries, right? I’m just so saddened how all these obnoxious fights around social media are happening, how we are being divided like two different states in one country either because of being a Tagalog (the dialect of the north) or being a Bisaya (the dialect of the south) or how the Tagalogs prefer the Elites of the North to rule the government and contradict so much on the support that Bisaya people give to the ordinary man from the south who is now the president.
I wonder what do these anti-Duterte people think when Duterte gets success from travelling and exchanging trades from other very successful countries. Do they also celebrate the success of the nation, or feel like they don’t belong to this country because the man who brought success is a man they don’t like just because he is from the South?
The fact that Duterte is the first Bisaya (southern living, Mindanaoan) president, this stung the hearts of those who do not like Bisaya people.
Why do they not like Bisaya people like us?
Most of the people in the Luzon (northern part of the Philippines) get slaves, nannies and house helpers from the Mindanao or the Visayas (the Bisaya people). They think that all of the Bisaya are filthy, poor, cannot comprehend English and disgusting, just how the movies or the media show us to them.
This is one of the reasons why I ranted on Facebook weeks ago because I was not anymore able to take their unreasonable points of criticisms just because the topnotchers in the board exams were all Bisaya.
(Sucks how we live in one country but divided by TWO different languages. We have 7, 107 islands, 175 dialects but divided by TWO different languages because of how the TAGALOG IMPERIALISTS think that BISAYA people like us are dumb and too naive not to top the BAR Exam. Not only that, just because the new president is BISAYA, they think that the results are drawn under the hands of the government. Seriously though, how mad can you guys think? Can't you simply accept that Bisaya stands out and excels in myriad ways? What's the big deal of being of a Bisaya? It's not about us, friends. It's how you define US. It's not what we do. It's how you perceive what we do. It's not how we speak, but how you think we speak. All the things that you say about the Bisaya people are the fruition of how you think about us. IT'S NEVER US. You are creating an illusion of an enemy that's never present. These people you hate didn't do anything to you. And that's how powerful one mind is. And now, the illusion disgusts and scares you so much just because we excelled this year: 1. Positions in the government. 2. BAR Exam and other licensure examinations. WHAT MORE WILL YOU DO IF THE THINGS WE WILL EXCEL ON INCREASE IN NUMBER? KILL US? You are only showing the whole country how insecure you are to Bisaya people who did not do anything against you. Screw you.)
One of the many reasons why these people hating Duterte is because they are insecure of how simple and ordinary the life of Mr. Duterte is. He came from the Mindanao and he was never the type who wears good looking tux and super-ironed pants. But these elites want something like that. They want to have a president who looks really good in front of other presidents but cannot fight for them when the time comes they need a parent. They want to have a president who is handsome yet the brain is too small to think. They want to have a rich president who’s ulterior motive is to get more money from them.
And let me say hello to the media men who are being paid to take down the President. Good luck with that, folks. Have you ever came across the idiom “IRON FIST”? That should stop you from doing under the table transactions. Be ashamed of broadcasting fallacy and false statements from people because your enemy will not be the president, but the 16 million people who voted for him.
I am one of the 16 million people who believes in him.
What more can I say? Take the old adage, “Too see is to believe.”
I have lived in Davao. I have seen.
And right now, I believe.
And for those who don’t, take a minute to reflect on how safe you are right now, especially if you are going to work in the morning and goes home at night.
It would not take much of a thinking, however, try to check your insecurities that might be the reason why you are hating the president after all he has done for you.
Maitanong ko lang, kung ikaw ay isang bayaran sa sariling mong bayan, aking kapatid, maitanong ko lang, magkano ka?
(May I ask though, if you are a slave for money in your very own country, my brother, may I ask, how much are you?)
After all these conflicts that Philippines is going through especially Marawi City, let’s keep the blue color of our flag up.
Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!
(I am not stereotyping ALL of the people who speaks Tagalog or who is born from the North when I pointed out the word/s “Tagalog/s”. However, if you are guilty enough that you are anti-Duterte, then yes, you are the one I am pointing my index finger to.)
