Truly one of the oddest feelings is reading a fic that is so out of character but the writing and plot is so compelling. Like yeah I came here for the characters but yeah you know what I will read your original novel with the serial numbers plastered on

realizing that with the potential prospect of aa7 being a continuation of 456 (somehow. i have nooooo idea how they're reconciling that) it'll probably have to take place pretty shortly after those games. which brings to mind the fact that the writers have got to know at this point that the fans have erroneously (?) set the first game in 2016. meaning they're going to have to reconcile with the fact that we are fast approaching 2028 and onward when aa7 will be taking place and there's gonna be so fucking many questions if they continue with the ace attorney technology moon logic. or worse they ignore it completely and phoenix rocks up with an iphone 27 or whatever they're on now

To expand on this post, it's about the desperation for affection under an abusive household.
I don't think Manfred's hatred for Miles in AA1-4 turnabout goodbyes or how he called him worthless him in AAi-4 turnabout reminiscence (do not come at me with the mistranslation thing, he still insults him the original jpn: proof here) are one offs.
Manfred wants Miles to believe that he loves him, there is probably some truth to that at the core. Manfred ties his jabot and pretends it's for the sake of perfection, he gives Miles the money to buy whatever he wants.
Manfred probably tells Miles that he cares for him, loves him, but more than often Manfred does things that put that into question.
Miles really wants to believe it is true above all else. So he will revisit the small moments to prove to himself that his mentor does love him as if it makes up for the punishments, the insults, the strict standards of the Von Karma creed "To be perfect in every way", the threat of being disowned "A perfect record is proof of a Von Karma", the abuse.
He is blinded by his immense respect, the dazzling prospect of taking his anger out on defendants and most of all the perfection that will earn his place among the family who took him in.

Manfred is a perfectionist and impatient so i think that first few times that Miles is wearing a jabot they're not the most well tied, so Miles and Manfred would be at the door read to go out and he'd tell Miles to redo it and then Manfred would get impatient and redo it himself. This becomes a regular thing where redoes Miles' jabot every time they go out together or else that perfectionist itch is gonna itch.
but also just becomes a moment of bonding even if they make their own excuse about it having to be perfect. Manfred is being affectionate without ever trying to be explicitly affectionate, after he is done he puts his hand on Miles' shoulder as he inspects his work. Just trying to be nonchalant about it. The whole time Miles is just basking in the attention.
At some point Miles gets good at tying the jabot but Manfred always finds some kind of fault in it but at that point Miles can't see the difference from before and after. Most likely there never was.
These are the kind of memories Miles revisits time and time again to remind himself that his mentor loves him when Manfred says something or does something to put that in doubt or to wonder if Manfred ever loved him after Turnabout goodbyes.

I don't think Miles Edgeworth and Franziska von Karma were passive victims.
They are victims, don't mistake me. The ideology of absolute perfection is messed up and every single member of that family is a victim of it, though Manfred is a perpetrator too. Miles especially is a victim - his father murdered, his father's murderer taking him in, either with hatred in his heart or growing to hate him to the point of wanting his life destroyed. But I don't think either Miles or Franziska realised they were victims before Turnabout Goodbyes - Justice for All, for Franziska. I think they fully believed in the von Karma creed and all it entails and gave themselves to it fully and enthusiastically.
What I'm saying is, give me a five-year old Franziska begging to be allowed in law tutoring sessions with Miles. Give me a Miles bitter, disillusioned after DL-6, confiding in his mentor that he thinks he wants to be a prosecutor and not a defence attorney. Give me a Franziska whose "whims" are dismissed by her father, fighting to prove that yes she can be a prosecutor at thirteen - fighting to prove her worth. Give me a Miles more zealous than Manfred in his condemnation of criminals, fervently repeating precepts that Manfred dictates out of habit. Give me a Franziska raised by domestics who don't know how to handle her strong character and barely looked upon by her father, growing up indulged in everything but what she needs the most. Give me a Miles lost, grieving for his father and the moral beacon he represented; give me Miles latching onto Manfred as a new model role, burying an identity now painful and shameful to him to shape himself after Manfred, picking the same suit as him, imitating his every gesture; give me Miles calling him a god or prosecution not entirely out of fear but out of admiration. Give me Manfred looking on them with his head held high and the rare smile, distant but seemingly not inaccessible until they actually try. Give me a dynamic where they don't so much try to avoid his blows or his harsh words as they desperately seek his nod of approval. Give me a world in which they're terrified of him but they fear him out of love, not out of expectation of retribution. Give me a story where they don't rue their loneliness, but take pride in it.
Give me Miles and Franziska unknowing actors of their own unhappiness.

I like the idea that Miles would wear more of a Von Karma colour, very slightly keeping his favourite shade. Of course, this would change over time 💪

the janitor has come to realize that when they open the storage closets in the prosecutor’s office, they will either find guitar amps, katanas, whips, coffee bags, batons, toupees, animals that will be used as evidence, limited edition steel samurai merch, or two “rivals” making out. the janitor has quit.

speaking of, there was also the time naruhodo sounded like he was saying 'ive also seen dick before'

the word for 'bullet hole' is apparently a homophone for dick, according to this dictionary (which i found out accidentally ages ago from searching without the kanji)

its written properly with the different kanji so it specifies the meaning (puns would usually be written phonetically to show the double meaning), and ive got no idea what the usage of that word is. like, its probably a coincidene but still. the way its phrased like 'ive also had the experience of doing this before' did sound enough like that to make me check if my memory was correct
