Chapter Seven: Intimacy
Chapter Seven: Intimacy
Her hand moved down the length of his chest.  Her fingers moving over every ripple of the muscle that he possessed.  His brown eyes stared at her, relishing in her movements, and his hand ran down her back.  He pulled her closer, earning himself a hitch in her breathing.  Her blonde hair was tied up in a pony tail, until his hand made its way into her hair, and pulled it free from its constraints.
He smiled at the natural beauty of the woman in front of him.  Her natural skin, no eye enhancement, or lip stain - just purely natural.  Not a single trace of make up was on her face.  He bent down, brushing his lips against the side of her neck.  Her back arched, closing even more of the distance between the two of them.
"Annabeth," he purred in her ear.  "No one's coming home?"
Annabeth smiled at her boyfriend, "no, Jer, no one is."
"Good," he murmured into her neck, suddenly lifting her up and her legs wrapped around his waist.  "Because I'm not planning on doing anything your parents would approve of."
She giggled as they proceeded towards her bedroom.

Klaus looked at Samantha.  "Are her and that, hunter, Jeremy, done with?"
Samantha shook her head.  Klaus had been asking about Annabeth ever since she got home from school.  It didn't seem to matter what other pressing issues were to arise.  Nothing but Annabeth and her relationship appeared to be more pressing to this man.  Samantha was on the verge of simply slapping the man and telling him to get a grip.
"She and Jeremy are fine," she sighed.  "I told you, I don't think they'll be breaking up."
"I understand," he mused.  "However, I am unsure of what she quite sees in that hunter."
"They grew up together, I guess," Samantha answered, the boredom she felt seeping into her voice.
"Hmmm," he paused, "but she does not love being a hunter.  She is different, she's not blood hungry."
Samantha already knew what he was leading towards.  Herself and Annabeth had talked about her lack of investment in the career choice that she had selected.  They had discussed how she didn't want that life; how it had chosen her, not the other way around.  They had talked about it during the time that Sam had been at her house.  Of course, that time soon ended when Jeremy had arrived.
Though, Samantha wasn't about to tell Klaus the nature of Jeremy's late night visit.  She was aware that would only cause a hissy fit.  There were many things that she told Klaus, but he would never guess why she had left before her curfew.  Samantha leaned forward and rested her head on her hand.  Her hair falling in her eyes with the boredom painted on her face.
If there was anything going on right now, it was that Samantha was prepared to die from the boredom she was suffering from.  Klaus needed to make some friends, or have activities besides scheming to be involved in.
Klaus wore a simple dark gray v-neck with a pair of jeans.  He walked around the kitchen, moving towards the fridge and grabbed an orange juice.  He looked over his shoulder at Samantha.
"Want one?"
"No, thank you," she groaned.  "I think I'm good."
"I could always get you some blood, if that's what you need."
She smiled.  "No." What I need is for you to stop talking about Annabeth, she has a boyfriend.
"One more question.  Is there trouble in paradise for Annabeth and Jeremy?"
"From what I can see, and what I know, no." Samantha answered.
It was the first time she had managed to pull off a white lie to Klaus.

The bed sheets were on the floor.  Her blonde hair messy, her breathing ragged and uneven.  Sweat glistened on her body, as she rested her head on Jeremy's rising and falling chest.
"Was that your way of apologizing?" she murmured and ran her hand down the strength of his chest.
"I didn't realize there was anything to apologize for," he answered with a broad smile on his face.  "But I know that you are incredible baby."
She giggled, her body pressed against his.  "I'm pretty sure, that's all you Jer."
He wrapped his arm around her and gently placed a kiss on her forehead.  When nothing was taken into consideration, things were good.  When the complexity of vampires was out of the equation, their relationship was perfect.  When their hunting life was thrown into the mix, everything about their relationship was insane.  They hardly got along when their duties got in the way.
At best, half of the time Jeremy was worried that she, too, would up and leave him deciding that it was too hard to continue.  When nights like this, he really could see the love that they shared, the feelings that were mutual and he couldn't have been more ecstatic.
"I love you, Annabeth," he murmured just before they slipped into a sweet abyss.

Chapter Six: Fire
Chapter Six: Fire
Sam stared at Annabeth.  "Does Jeremy know you don't love being a vampire hunter?"
"Are you kidding me?" Annabeth laughed at her friend, her eyes meeting hers.  "He would have a cow, a pig, hell he'd have an entire farm if he knew that."
Annabeth's blonde hair fell into her face as the moonlight peeked into her room through the slightly open curtain.  She had invited Sam over when she realized her family was again, on a vampire hunting trip.  They offered her to go, but she reminded them that there were final exams coming up soon.  Of course, that was a lie.
Annabeth wanted nothing to do with killing vampires after discovering that not all of them were evil.  Not all of them wanted to drain a human dry and be responsible for their death.  She understood, and accepted, that they would always have a side to them that wished to do just that.  But she didn't believe that all of them had been dominated by that part of themselves.
"Well, he loves you, doesn't he?"
Annabeth smiled a little.  "In his own way, yes.  Some days it's more apparent than others."
"Do you love him?"
Annabeth nodded.  "To the best that I know how to, I do.  But we're rather complicated, we still haven't quite figured out the ropes of how to have a relationship with each other. We're both so different."
Sam nodded in acknowledgement.  "I know what you mean.  It can be tricky, can't it?"
"Hunny, with Jeremy, everything is complicated and tricky.  You, just, well, have to be patient with him, for the most part," Annabeth sighed, "and sometimes, I just don't have that patience."
Sam could see it Annabeth's eyes.  There was something more, or someone more.  No matter what it was, Annabeth was hiding something.
- - - - - - - - - - - - -
The house filled with heat.  The crackling could be heard throughout the home.  Edges of pictures began to become charred, and slowly, piece by piece, the pictures became nothing but ash.  There was a deathly silence from the road, where he stood, a sinister smirk rising on his face.  This was his handy work.  No one would ever find the bodies that he'd drained of blood.  They would be burnt beyond recognition.
No one would ever have to know that a vampire had been through this town.  They would just believe it was another freak fire.  Started by people foolish enough to leave candles lit and fall asleep.  He tucked his hands in his pockets, reluctant to take his eyes off the fire that he had created.  The flames began to swallow the house, room by room.  It was a slow, but as he saw it, a beautiful process.  He loved watching the flames devour each and every room as a human would a chocolate.
If his family was aware that he'd done this, surely they wouldn't understand what was going on, but he was quite okay with that.  He preferred them to be in the dark about his activities.  As long as he regrouped with them before sunrise, they would not suspect him of anything.
He relished in the fresh memory of the screams of those who lived in the house.
"Get out of my house!" The father had screamed at him, before Manning had snapped his neck.
He remembered killing each and every single one of them.  He remembered the feeling of the life leaving their body under his fingertips as their blood filled his mouth and calmed his thirst.  He wouldn't have to do this for another while, but he knew he would be back for more before then. In his mind, he was in perfect control, but it was apparent that he had lost all his sanity through his mass killings.
He wiped out family by family.  He never attacked unless the entire family was in the house.  As he watched the house go up in flames, he smiled, and vanished down the street.

Chapter Five: Of Value
Chapter Five: Of Value
The sunlight broke through the curtains, danced across the floor and onto her face.  Her eyes shot open, and she sat up in her bed.  Footsteps were coming closer, and closer, she could hear it from her room.  This was just another perk of being a hybrid.  Her door opened and there stood Niklaus with his eyes focused solely on her.
“I want you to find out as much about her as you can,” he purred, his voice coded and she simply nodded.
“But who exactly are you talking about?” Samantha questioned, her eyebrows raised, her hair messy and knotted.
“Annabeth, I need to know more.”
Samantha inhaled.  She knew that wouldn’t be easy, because Jeremy wouldn’t let her close enough.  She knew Niklaus wanted to know more about her, but hadn’t he gotten enough information from her when he had crashed their dinner?  Hadn’t it been enough they had left at one in the morning, because Niklaus had been talking to the girl all through the night until she had fallen asleep on his shoulder.  It was the one of the few times that Samantha had witnessed him be kind to someone other than Caroline.
He had picked the sleeping figure in his arms, her face buried in his neck, and he had carried her up the steps.  It had seemed so effortless, and there was a small smile that had been on his lips the entire night.  Samantha had followed him, and watched him place her in her queen-sized bed.  He had tucked her in, ran a finger across her forehead brushing away the hair from her face.  In that moment, Samantha had seen the true interest show through.
He dipped, and gently skimmed his lips against her forehead.  It was brief, but sweet.  He had whispered goodnight, before leaving a note on her end table, walking to the door and switching out the light.  He had closed the door behind him and they had left her home to theirs.  The entire walk over there had been no questions or words shared between Samantha and Klaus.  His display of affection was to be kept secret – she had learned this.
His interest in Annabeth was to remain hidden, as well.  It must’ve been the reason that he had asked her to find out as much as possible.  It was unlike Klaus to ask any real favors such as this of her.  It was unusual that he’d even be so keen on knowing.  Caroline might have denied him, but it hadn’t set the tone back, if anything it had set the tone forward.
“I’ll do what I can, but Jeremy…”
Niklaus’ face-hardened.  “Do not worry about Jeremy, he will get used to you, and he won’t say anything if he sees Annabeth has welcomed you.  Regardless, do you not have a class with her?”
Samantha smiled slightly.  “I have English and History with her, so yes, I do, don’t worry.”
“Then speak with her then,” Niklaus murmured before turning away.  “Don’t forget to brush your hair, you must be presentable.”
He shut the door behind him, and Samantha stood up.  She walked towards her cell phone, before spotting a text message from Annabeth.
It read, “I had a lovely time with you last night, and Klaus, too.  I’ll swing by and pick you up? – A.”
Samantha couldn’t help but smile.  It was her first real friend in this city.  It was the first friend to look past her hybrid status, her sire bond and simply be her friend.  It was nice to have someone to talk to, someone to confide in.  She quickly began typing back to her, confirming that she could pick her up in fifteen minutes.  She quickly slid on a pair of grey jeans and a loose dark blue top.  She pulled on a black zip-up hoodie and ran towards the bathroom.  There she quickly brushed her hair and brushed her teeth.
She bolted down the steps and smiled as she saw that Annabeth had arrived early.  She was seated on the couch beside Klaus who paid undivided attention to her.  When her hair had fallen in her face, he’d gently and casually brushed it away with an inviting smile.  They continued to speak as she ate quickly and came into the living room.
“I’m ready, are you ready Annabeth?”
Annabeth looked up at her with her blue eyes.  “Yeah of course, Sam, let’s go.  It was nice talking to you, Niklaus.”
“Call me Klaus,” he purred and she smiled and nodded.
“Alright, Klaus,” she paused.  “I will see you later.”
She turned on her heels, looping her arm with Samantha’s and they walked out the door.  There was still a cool bite in the air, but the sun shone down on them.  Annabeth’s eyes drifted closed for a moment, enjoying the warmth on her face.  Jeremy had yet to cross her mind and she had yet to answer his text message about the day before, and why he couldn’t come over.
Annabeth and Samantha unhooked arms and got into her Jeep.  Annabeth slid into the drivers side and shut her door.  She backed out of the driveway and spotted Sam watching her intently out of the corner of her eye.  She turned towards her as she put on her sunglasses.
“Whats on your mind, Sam?”
Samantha smiled.  “I just, was wondering, um, why didn’t you tell Jeremy that we came over?”
Annabeth sighed.  “Because he would be angry, and I knew he wouldn’t understand.”
Samantha looked at her even more quizzically.  “What is there to understand?”
“I’m a vampire hunter, Sam, I’m supposed to kill vampires, but the thing is, I don’t have the desire to kill them, I don’t want to, unless they’ve had more than just a few slips… The only vampires I want gone are the ones going around draining many people dry, otherwise, I have no urge to murder a murderer.” Annabeth explained as she turned the corner.  “Where’s the common sense in that?”
Sam nodded.  “I can see your point.  Why kill the killers?”
“That’s my point, it’s why I don’t know if I can be a hunter.  Vampires may not be human but I’ve met some with a soul and isn’t that the most valuable part of a human?”

Chapter Four: Uninvited
Chapter Four: Uninvited
The night had taken over. She had come home to an empty house. Her father was never here, and her mother was off hunting down vampires in a different state. She owned the home, now, because they hadn’t been home in almost a year and a half. Ever since then they’d signed the house over to her. She hadn’t always spent nights with Jeremy consecutively, because she hadn’t wanted to get too complaisant in their boyfriend-girlfriend role. Her hair was loosely down her shoulders, and the hickeys that she’d received from the night before were partially covered by Jeremy’s oversized sweatshirt. Shed made a habit of wearing his clothing. It was big, grey and came down to her mid-thigh acting as a short, but loose dress. Around her house candles were lit, and she began to chop away at the onions that would go into her pork fried rice with gravy. She’d invited Samantha for dinner, and didn’t think that she’d mind her casual wear. It was just Jeremy’s baggy sweatshirt, and a pair of black jeggings and purple socks. She wore her hunters ring on her finger, and her ears had diamond studs in them. Her mother had sent those as a birthday gift the year before. She smiled as she remembered the first night Jeremy had kissed her. It had been cold, winter to be exact, and he’d given her one of his coats from the car. They’d gone to a bonfire together, and he’d walked her up to her door, like any gentleman would. Elena had insisted on it. It was as simple as that, but he kissed her. It had been borderline magical. If she could describe it in any way, it would’ve been perfect. She’d known Jeremy her entire life, and he’d become this amazing person – and that amazing person, had become her boyfriend. Her parents, if they knew, would’ve loved him. Well, besides the whole intimacy part. It had escalated to that rather quickly, at least quickly in her parents’ mind. It had taken them eight and a half months to get to that point, and he’d been the only person she’d been with in that way. It had even happened in this house too. She may have grown up here, but she’d had a lot more memories than just her strange childhood, and awkward pre-teen phase. She’d experienced real love in this home, whether it be her parents unwavering love and respect for each other, or the relationship she had going on with Jeremy. It was real, so real to her. They fought, they’d yelled, and screamed at each other in this house. They’d cried, they’d laughed, they’d loved in this house. They’d kissed, they’d hugged, and experienced all in this town. She knew that despite her abilities as a hunter, she couldn’t do it without him. He was her support system. The Gilbert’s had always been supportive of her, her endeavors and her life – they’d become a second family… until the Salvatore’s came to town. She’d been close with Elena, until Stefan, and until Jeremy. Not long after Elena and Stefan had gotten involved, she’d admitted to Caroline about her thing for Jeremy. Of course, being Caroline she pushed her in the direction of her relationship with Jeremy. It hadn’t been too long after her confession to Caroline that she’d flat out told Jeremy. And ever since, she’d found herself always with him. She loved it. She loved him. But she wasn’t sure what kind of life she could have if they were both vampire hunters. One of them could easily die, both of them could easily be in other states and far away from one another, and she wasn’t sure she wanted her parents’ marriage. She hummed as she chopped the onions until the doorbell rang. She skipped along the hallway til the door, and she opened it. There they stood. Beside Samantha stood the one person Jeremy hated… Klaus. He was dressed from head to toe in fashionable clothing. It appeared to be a silk suit with a white dress shirt beneath it and a light blue tie. The whole outfit had managed to bring out Klaus’ eyes. There was a gentleness of his face, and he smiled at her, his light eyes burning into hers. “Well good evening, love.” He greeted with a soft smile. “Samantha invited me, I hope that’s okay.” “Oh, yeah, of course,” she sputtered, her shock fading after a few moments. He smiled. “May I come in?” Samantha rolled her eyes. “Sorry, I tried to tell him that it was a girl thing, but he didn’t really listen.” Annabeth shrugged. “It’s fine, Samantha, I wouldn’t worry too much, it doesn’t bother me. Yes, Klaus, you may come in.” Klaus stepped past the barrier of her door, and stood beside her. She was just beneath his shoulder, and that was in her bare feet. She wouldn’t get shorter than that. He looked over her sweater and recognized the scent. It was Jeremy’s sweater. He watched her pull it off to reveal the dark blue v-neck tank top that was beneath it, and smiled. She was warm, inviting, even. It was surprising for a vampire hunter. By now, wouldn’t she want to beat his brains in? He smirked as she turned on her heels, and began walking down the hall. “You can come in, too, Samantha.” The aroma from the pork fried rice filled the house. Samantha sat there, rolling her eyes at Klaus who stared tentatively at Annabeth work on the food. All that had been happening was Klaus inquiring into her. He looked perfectly content, while Samantha sat at the barstool with her head on the island and groaned every couple minutes. If she had ever felt like a third wheel, it would be right now. The thing was, Annabeth had a boyfriend, and Klaus knew it, very well. It had enticed him even more to come here this night. Samantha looked up and shot daggers at him in her grimace. If only looks could kill. It might’ve been friendly conversation, but she could see there was more than that. If Elena knew about this… there would be an uproar. The battle between the females could be seen from not far away. If this is what being a third wheel is, she wished she could change it. She pulled her hair up into a pony tail as she watched Klaus intently watch her. It was disturbing to think that Elena’s words had really spiked all of this. “So, what are your parents? Humans? Vampires? Werewolves? What?” Annabeth looked over her shoulder and smiled. “None of the above. They aren’t your snack, they aren’t your enemy, but they aren’t your friend either. They are both, yes I mean both, vampire hunters.” Klaus’ eyes widened. “You come from a line of them, then?” She nodded. “To say the least, yes.” Samantha laughed. “Did you not know that? That’s why like everything here can be turned into a wooden stake.” Annabeth pointed at Samantha with an approving smile. “Precisely, I mean, I don’t want to live my parents life, but I’m jealous of their marriage.” “Why? You have Jeremy.” She shrugged. “I love Jeremy, I really do, but he wants to be a hunter, and I’m still on the fence about the whole idea.” “Why would you be on the fence, love? Do you love to kill vampires? Or is it a right of passage in your blood line?” She turned away from the pork-fried rice and took a deep breath. “I don’t see vampires as monsters as my parents do. I don’t think they’re all the same. I think every single person, supernatural or not, are capable of evil. So, I don’t quite think the way my parents or Jeremy do. I mean Jeremy has more of a conscious than my parents, but I don’t know if this life… being a vampire hunter, is for me.” Klaus appeared enthralled with every word that came from her mouth. Samantha sighed, got up and walked over to her side where she assisted her with dinner. Whether it be dishing out the proportions, the drinks, or assembling the place mats. Either way, she felt needed and it was nice. It was nice to be somewhat accepted as is, as opposed to shunned away. Being a hybrid in a town full of vampires was hard. It was harder than what anyone made it out to be, and if that wasn’t enough, even the hybrids that she knew – they weren’t, as accepting as one would hope. You would think because they’re from the same race that they would be open to the idea of friendship. But unfortunately, the Hybrid family had crumbled to pieces. It hadn’t even lasted longer than a week, instead it had disintegrated within hours of it beginning. “So,” Klaus began. “Tell me more about yourself love,” he smirked. This was going to be a long night.

Chapter Three: I accept
Chapter Three: I accept
Klaus stood on Elena’s doorstep.  They needed the cure, and he knew that in order for him to get any more hybrids, he would need her human.  He licked his lips, and looked at Samantha who stood at his side.  She wore a pair of dark gray skinny jeans with patches of black, and a light blue tank top that was covered by a blue and gray plaid top with red stripes.  Her brown hair was pulled up into a ponytail that went down her back.
Klaus wore a pair of jeans and loose v-neck short sleeved shirt with a leather jacket.  His light brown hair was cut short, and his facial hair was beginning to stubble.  With a deep breath, after minutes of standing on the porch, and swung the door open.  And there she stood.  His eyes scanned her face, and moved across her features with his mesmerized eyes.  She was truly beautiful, more so than he’d ever seen before.
All his thoughts of Caroline seemed to vanish in that moment.  Klaus followed her arm to the hand that she held, which belonged to Jeremy Gilbert.  His light eyes narrowed in on their locked fingers before returning to her soft facial features.  Her beauty was easy on the eyes, and she flashed him a gentle smile.  It was warm, and welcoming.  She may have known all the terrible things he did, but it didn’t seem to phase her.  She stood there with that warm, inviting smile and he couldn’t help but get lost.
Samantha looked between the two of them and smirked.  Not many had welcomed Klaus so kindly since they arrived in Mystic Falls, and yet there the girl stood, and had no judgements that they could see.  Samantha and the girl smiled at one another.
“Hi,” the girl smiled.  “We were just going out, but I’m Annabeth and this my boyfriend, Jeremy.”
“Two hunters in love,” Klaus mused, his eyes never leaving Annabeth.
“Do you mind to not stare at my girlfriend?” Jeremy wondered, his dark eyebrows raised.
“Oh I’m sorry little Gilbert, I was just admiring your girlfriend.  My apologies,” Klaus nodded, and stared at Jeremy.  “Are you two out to have a lovely breakfast?”
“If you’d get out of the way,” Jeremy sneered.
“Be polite,” Annabeth chastised her voice calm and sincere.  “They’re only saying hi, I don’t see the problem.”
Klaus smiled at her.  The fire was embedded in her eyes, and it sparked an interest.  Elena had been passive, almost whiny – too dull.  Caroline had been similar, but a cross between his sister and her attitude, to Elena’s whininess.  But this – this was something new, something exhilarating and something that had caught the attention of the original.
He watched Jeremy weave the both of them around him and Samantha and stared after her for a moment.  At least until Samantha nudged him and motioned him to go into the house.  Klaus smiled nervously and continued into the house, until they were inside.
“Hello Elena, Damon.  We have a small issue.”
“What might that be?” Damon countered.
“Silas is locked away with the cure, and we are still no where closer to finding it,” Klaus snapped.
Samantha smiled to herself.  The minute that the blonde had left, he’d turned into the raging lunatic that he knew, but for those few moments she was there, polite was the perfect way to describe Klaus.  He didn’t always have that function, but now it had seemed to increase tenfold.  Samantha stood there, observing the argument between the three vampires.  It was amusing to watch them argue since they had made it clear that no matter what they each wanted.  It didn’t matter if it was the same outcome they were both after, if it could be argued about, it would be argued about.
There was a silence, a long one that went on between the three vampires.  A competitive stare down to say the least.  It had become easily known that the three would never agree. They were worse than when Klaus was with his brothers Elijah, and Khol.  No one had ever disagreed more than Elena, Damon, and Klaus.  They were all after the cure, but for different reasons.
The moment that they had arrived in that house, it had been downhill.  Sure, the house was beautiful, but Samantha knew that the moment that Klaus lost his temper, furniture would be flying.  Ever since Caroline had picked Tyler over him, things had gotten worse.  It had gone from an emotional Klaus, to cold murderous Klaus.  It had been almost a month since Klaus had figured out that it would always be Tyler to Caroline.
He’d yelled at objects, at his siblings, and even once or twice at her.  It had been unprovoked, other than his ego had been hurt and she was the closest person in the vicinity for him to yell at.
“We have to go,” Klaus growled.
“Hey Klaus,” Elena called out.  “Stay away from Annabeth, she’s with my brother, alright?  She’s a hunter.”
He smirked with his back to her.  “Will do, Elena, will do.  I would prefer not to be staked, thank you.”
“Just figured incase you were stupid enough to try and toy with my brothers girlfriend, I just want you to know, I will rip your head off.”
The idea of Elena trying to rip his head off flooded his mind, as did the thought of Annabeth from earlier that day, and smiled to himself.  He was mindless at the moment.  There had to be something that was going on.  It didn’t matter to him what happened, but the thought of a challenged encouraged him to do more than he was doing at the moment.  He could do anything, he knew this, and it had been obvious from the day that he’d been able to steal girl after girl.
The fire in Annabeth replayed before his eyes.  She wasn’t judgemental, she wasn’t holding his decisions above him, and so far, he liked it.  He didn’t know her, but he got the vibes off her and that was enough for him.  At least for now.  There had to be a way to know her without seeming too pushy, and if there was a will there was a way.
Klaus had his back to Elena, with a smirk on his face.  He loved someone challenging, loved a puzzle, and so far, Annabeth seemed to be the reward of figuring out that puzzle.  It was more than that.  It was more than a challenge, more than desire, and even more than just the instantaneous attraction.  There was something driving him to know more, and Elena had just tipped the scales.  It was official, he was going to know her, inside and out.
Klaus smirked.  I accept that challenge.

Chapter Two: Daggers 'n Blades
Chapter Two: Daggers 'n Blades
The morning sunlight slithered through the curtains.  It slid across the hardwood floor and onto the sleeping figures of Jeremy and Annabeth.  His arm wrapped securely around her back, her head on the firmness of his chest, and her medium blonde hair messy from the tossing and turning done in her sleep.  Her black tank top had ridden half way up her stomach, exposing her pierced hips.  Her short shorts were loosely around her waist, the drawstring untied and hanging loosely.  Her leg was draped over her boyfriend, Jeremy’s, and his hand was firmly placed on her lower back.
Ever since he’d become a vampire hunter like her, they’d been almost inseparable.  Even more so than they had been when they were human.   Their families had always interacted with each other, it was safe to say that Jeremy’s mother was practically best friends with hers.  Although, that had been before Jeremy’s mother and father had died.  The Gilbert’s were apart of the founding families, at least the founding families that had stuck around.
Ever since their death Jeremy and Annabeth had grown closer than they were before.  Jeremy had relied on her heavily to boost him up on his down days, which she had so faithfully done.  It didn’t matter if it was the middle of the night, she still came to his aid when he needed her.  She had snuck out of her two story home many times to go comfort him.  He had traveled down the wrong path with Vicki Donovan, but she had managed to yank him off that path and throw him back into reality.  It had only partially worked for the longest time, and she’d refused to give up on him.
The sheets were entangled around them.  The dark blue duvet was lined with a cream-colored border, and there were black checkers in the corners.  The sheets were an off-white, while the pillows were stacked rather high, but comfortable all at the same time.  The memory foam bed had made their sleep twice as comfortable as it normally was.  The curtains were a dark red made of a heavy material meant to keep the light out, but it had still slithered into the room through the cracks.
The room was warm.  It wasn’t clear whether the warmth came from Jeremy, or just the average temperature of the room, but Annabeth melted into it.  She enjoyed the warmth that wrapped around her, and held her close.  In these past few months, the two of them had become Vampire Hunters.  That, of course, complicated things, because his sister was a vampire now.
Every day that Annabeth was here, she struggled to not stake Elena.  Jeremy had no issues, since he had been made with a conscious, but her entire blood line had been Vampire Hunters.  Her mother was off in Minnesota hunting vampires, and her father was off in Texas doing the same.  They rarely came back to Mystic Falls.  Of course, she’d lived with her Aunt for the time being, but she knew when they heard she was dating a fellow vampire hunter – they would instantaneously approve.
Her relationship with Jeremy had escalated months ago.  It had taken a few scotches for the confessions to come out, but they had come out regardless.  They had managed to confess to one another at the exact moment.  Their voices had covered each other’s, and they had simply laughed it off.  It hadn’t taken long after that for their relationship to be official.  Elena had been just as ecstatic as Caroline had been.
It was hard to believe that almost an entire year had flown by since their relationship had started.  She stirred, and her blue eyes opened and drank in the sight of him sleeping there peacefully.  His brown hair was messy, and she reached her free hand up to brush away a few stray strands.  His skin was slightly tanned, and her eyes moved over his face, to slide down to his toned chest.  The work with Damon had really done him some good.
Jeremy had always been toned, but since his training with Damon, that had intensified.  Her hand moved down his neck, to the firmness of his chest, and slid down his abdomen as the events of the night before played through her head.  She smirked at the memory, wondering what Jenna would’ve said if she’d walked into their room last night.
“Good morning,” he whispered groggily, and opened one of his brown eyes, “how’d you sleep baby?”
She smirked.  “I think you know how I slept, babe.”
He chuckled, and both of his eyes opened to stare down at her affectionately.  “Well, I know I slept great,” he murmured and pressed his lips to her forehead.  “I love you.”
She grinned, and dug her nails into his chest.  “I love you, too, Jer.”
His hand caught hers and smirked.  “Do you really want a replay of last night Anna?”
She laughed.  “I think last night was good enough for a little bit.”
There was a burning silence between the two, as his hand moved down her arm, over her shoulder and pressed her more firmly against him.  His brown eyes burned into her blue ones.  His hand slid further down her back and gripped the fabric of her shirt.  He dipped his head, until his nose touched hers briefly.  They both knew it was time to get up, before Elena came in.
He kissed her briefly, before they both rolled out of the bed.  Jeremy slid on a pair of dark wash jeans that hung low on his hips, and pulled a black short sleeved shirt over his head.  He watched her slide off her black tank top, and his eyes moved along the bare skin that had been exposed before him.  Her shorts were next to go, and his lips parted.  She was almost any mans dream.  Her blonde hair in messy curls that fell loosely on her shoulders followed by a pale complexion, that was virtually unblemished.
Her body was petite, her arms thin, her collarbone defined, and her overall body shape was similar to an hourglass, but less curve.  His eyes moved down to her pierced hips and watched her as she pulled on a pair of light grey skinny jeans with rips on the legs.  She slid on one of Jeremy’s old short sleeved shirts that were a few sizes too big for her.  She ran a hand through her hair and smiled brightly at him.
“Am I presentable?”
He looked her over, drinking every feature in.  “You’d be presentable with or without clothing on.”
Her mouth fell agape and she grabbed a pillow off his bed and threw it at him.  “Shut up Jeremy.”
He laughed and shook his head.  “Sorry,” he murmured, “I didn’t realize that actually came out.”
“Well it did, you jerk,” she teased playfully.
“Come on babe, you know you love me.” He winked, and flashed a dazzling smile.  “You look good in that shirt, by the way.”
“Well thank you, it’s my asshole boyfriend’s shirt.” She stuck her tongue out at him.
She walked towards Jeremy and looped her arm around his waist.  They walked to the door together, and soon began down the steps.  The house was silent, the lights were off and the sun was seeping into the house.  They both looked at each other with suspicion.  Elena was supposed to be home.  They each went to their designated hiding spots for stakes.  Jeremy grasped his which had been taped to the underside of the chase lounge, and Annabeth grabbed hers from behind the bookcase.
They looked at each other and nodded.  They silently began their journey into the kitchen.  Jeremy grasped his stake, his body in front of her, as if to protect her from what could come next.  In situations like this, Jeremy had always treated her as though she was still just the average human.  She knew, when it came down to her or Jeremy’s life, Jeremy would forfeit his own life.
The Gilbert men were honorable in that way.  It had been a genetic passed down by their ancestors for generations upon generations.  It was a marker of a true Gilbert.  Jeremy stood still, before he stepped into the kitchen where he suddenly realized they were not alone.  Damon stood there, his shirt no where to be found and his dark hair messy.  He turned around with a smile.
“Well hello little Jeremy, did you have a good night last night?” Damon smirked knowingly.  “Oh you forgot didn’t you?  Extra hearing,” he tapped at his own ears.
Annabeth’s cheeks warmed, and turned slightly scarlet.  She looked away and Elena soon came into the room.  Her brown hair was long and straight, her beauty still remained the same, and she stood beside Damon, sliding her hand into his.
“Don’t tease them, I think they’re cute.” Elena smiled warmly.  “Jenna would’ve approved of you, Anna.”
Anna smiled slightly.  “Thanks,” she answered looking out the window.  “So why are you here Damon?”
“Well, since you were having your own party in your bedroom, I thought Elena and I would join the party,” he joked.
Elena hit him in the stomach.  “He’s kidding, we left and went on a road trip and Damon had a shower earlier.  He seems to have forgotten to put it on, that’s all.”
“Sure it is,” Jeremy responded doubtfully.  “Put on a shirt, Damon.”
“Oh come on, you can join my almost naked party, Jer.  We can part-aeee.” Damon sang his dark hair falling into his light eyes.
“No.” Jeremy rolled his eyes, reaching his hand out for Anna’s.  “I think we’re gonna just go out for breakfast.”
“You sure you want to do that?” Elena wondered.  “There still are sired hybrids, like that girl that was the high school the other day…”
“You mean Samantha?” Jeremy corrected, staring at his sister.  “She may be a hybrid, who is sired, but she’s not like Tyler.  She doesn’t think Klaus is flawless.”
Elena shrugged.  “Just be careful.”
Anna stood there awkwardly, noticing the undertones of their conversation.  It was more of an argument than a discussion.  Elena didn’t want Jeremy involved with any of the hybrids.  Little did she know, that if Jeremy wanted to associate with them – he would.  It wouldn’t be a matter of asking, it would be a matter of he was his own person who didn’t need to be bossed around anymore.
It had been months since he’d accepted her rules.  She was a vampire now, and he was a vampire hunter.  It was safe to say that he didn’t feel the need to obey her every command.  Even if she hadn’t liked Anna, he wouldn’t have minded.  He guided Anna out of the room, knowing that Elena was burning a hole into the back of his head – but he didn’t care.  She wasn’t human anymore, and she was the very thing that he was supposed to kill.
Damon might’ve put a conscious into him, but he still felt no compulsion to obey her.  She wasn’t his master, nor was she his parent.  Jenna was gone.  Their parents were gone, even Elena’s biological parents were gone now, too.  The Gilbert’s were going to be extinct if they weren’t careful.  Unless Jeremy managed to have a child, he was the last living male Gilbert.
He grasped Anna’s hand in his as they moved towards the door.  His eyes scanned her face as she walked beside him, her blonde hair moving with her as she moved.  The door swung open, and there he stood in all his glory, Klaus.

Chapter One: Outcast
Chapter One: Outcast
Samantha sat in her room, legs crossed on her bed as she listened for the sound of creaking floorboards.  The darkness had always been her sense of tranquility and peace, but now it brought her nothing but anxiety.  She knew Niklaus was down the hall, and she knew that although his insanity was beginning to reach new peaks, she had no desire to question it.
Her dark ringlets fell, casting a curtain between her and the door to her bedroom.  Niklaus had kept a close eye on her, due to Tyler's betrayal, he'd been even more suspicious of his Hybrids.  He'd kept his sights on her, and even when she'd shown very little protest, he still proved his dominance through intimidation.  In her mind, she began counting down from sixty knowing that Niklaus would check on her, and make sure she wouldn't make a run for it.
Fifty-four.
She hadn't thought much about those who awaited her at home, in fact, she hadn't thought about them at all.  There was no one to think about.  Her mother, dead.  Her father, was as good as dead.  Niklaus had punished her mother for protecting her only daughter, and now, she had no one.  In Tampa, she'd hardly had anyone, few friends, but her mother had been the constant in her life, and that had been ripped away from her.
Forty-five.
Her gut told her to forget about Tampa, to pretend that she'd lived in this tiny town her entire life - but it wasn't as simple as that.  This town seemed to be a death trap, witches, warlocks, vampires, and werewolves all co-existing in one small town.  Not to mention, the doppelganger who had been turned into a vampire.  Surely, there wasn't enough room for them all, but it was a matter of time before they all exploded and killed one another.  She could see it already.  There would be a fight for dominance, but would Klaus side with the werewolves or the vampires?  Would he follow his bloodline, or would he follow what he was created to be?  It was a matter of time before they all conspired against each other to rule the town.
When Niklaus had told her this was where he would be relocating them, at first she'd been excited.  It had been a way out of her terrible life, just like she had been praying for.  Only, this wasn't a way out.  This, this was a much worse evil.  In Tampa, she could handle not being the most popular, or the most well liked, but here, she was the outcast.  Here, she was seen as Niklaus' puppet.  Vampire and werewolf alike would not want her around.  To them, she was a spy working for their worst enemy.
Thirty-one.
“I miss you mom,” she thought, and sighed.
She stood up in her purple and white plaid pajama shorts with her white tank top, and walked towards the window.  She placed her hands on the window pane, and drank in her surroundings.  It was as black as night, there were no houses with their lights on at this time of night, and a light fog had cast a shadow over the moon dimming its light.
The house she stayed in was old.  In the corner of her room was slight water damage from over the years.  When she had first arrived here, everything in this room was dusty, but Kol had been willing to help her make it at least look somewhat lively as opposed to something from the dark ages.  Mystic Falls had some form of presence, which she hadn't deciphered yet, but so far she liked it.  The town had decent whether, with the rotation of sunshine and a light dusting of rain.  Of course she'd only been here since the beginning of spring and winter had yet to roll around.
Fifteen.
“You'll learn to embrace the differences of things,” her mother used to say when she came home from school after a rough day, “just because they don't accept you right now, doesn't mean they won't eventually.”
Those words had so far held her together.  Yes, Niklaus enjoyed bullying her every now and then to do what he wanted to do, but those words had helped her hold on.  She may have been sired to that man, but she certainly had very little respect for him.  His behavior, his antics, and what he’d been up to recently, drove the desire to find a way to break the sire bond.  Tyler had managed to do it, if she approached him about doing it herself, would he help her?
There had been talk about how he had done it.  There had been rumors amongst the Hybrid race that he’d received help from Caroline Forbes father, Bill, who had died.  Bill had rather die than become a vampire, he had decided to leave his family behind, in exchange for death.  To her, it didn’t seem like much of a bargain, but who was she to question to his choice?  After all, the man was dead.  He wouldn’t be coming back any time soon, anyway.
She allowed her hair to cast a shadow over her features once again.  She didn’t want Niklaus to see her expression at this moment.  Emotions weren’t very accepted within their hybrid society.  She listened intently and heard soft footsteps coming closer to her room.  The floorboard not ten steps from her door creaked from his weight, and whined as he took the next step.  She forced herself to gain composure, and walked back to her bed and sat down on it.  She opened the magazine that she’d discarded earlier that evening, and sighed.
Niklaus opened the door without an invitation and his light blue eyes finding her dark orbs.  “I see you are ready for bed, love.”
“I guess,” she shrugged, and spotted a slight curve in Niklaus’ lips.
“You guess?  Is something bothering you?” He walked into her room slightly and his eyes never left hers.  “Is it the students?”
“Klaus don’t pretend to care, it doesn’t suit you,” she sang, and flipped the pages of her magazine leisurely.
“Ah, love, so cold.  You wonder why they won’t accept you, it’s because you frighten them.”
Samantha stifled a laugh.  “No, they aren’t afraid of me, Klaus.”
His eyebrows rose in her direction.  “Well you have school, so why don’t you get some rest?”
He moved closer to the bedroom and took one of the loose strands of her hair between his fingers and gently pushed it behind her ear.  Her dark brown eyes closed, and her breathing became rhythmic with his.  She paused for a brief moment, before her brown eyes shot open and she got off her bed.  Comfort was a luxury she should’ve known wasn’t a very good idea.  Klaus had killed off many of his hybrids and he’d made it clear he could kill whomever he pleased.  If she got too complacent with her rank in his food chain, he might just take her out too.
The moment he stood up her eyes followed his movement.  His shoulders were squared, and his chest was puffed up.  His blue eyes scanned the room momentarily before he slowly began to walk towards the windowsill.  He looked out into the night, drinking in the scenery that was beyond their home.  The warmth of her room wrapped around him, and a sense of peace waved over him momentarily.  Klaus hardly felt at peace.  He’d staked his sister, his brother, and several other family members.  Their resentment and anger haunted him, but in these few moments alone with one of his Hybrids, he felt calm.
“You see, life, being a hybrid may not be easy.  You are part vampire and part werewolf, an anomaly.” He purred, his voice smooth as silk.
“I know I’m different, Klaus, you don’t have to point it out to me for me to see it,” she hissed venomously.
He chuckled darkly, and smirked, his head still turned away from her.  “Your wit amuses me, out of line, but amuses me momentarily.”
“At least its got use for something, Klaus.”
He turned, his light eyes ignited with a fire she’d seen before.  “Why yes, yes it does.”
On his way out, he flicked off the lights and slammed the door behind him, inclosing her in the room where her thoughts would run wild.

Introduction: Midnight Air
Introduction
The darkness rolled in, the moon glistening in the night sky, and the stars twinkled as its company.  The streets were silent, not a single soul out in the darkness.  The small town of Mystic Falls had seen better days.  Mayor Lockwood had died tragically, leaving her town in shambles attempting to piece everything together without her.  Her son permanently damaged, and their secrets on the brink of exposure.
Her legacy threatened by the truth covered by her lies.  Vampire Hunters sprouted everywhere, and were all working on the extinction of the vampyric race.  Hybrids who had once left Mystic Falls had now returned, and were managing to keep their certain... behaviors, under control.  So far, no one had managed to die in this town via hybrid.
The vampire hunters however, were picking off vampires by the dozen. The darkness of the night didn't mask the truth.  Vampires, witches, hybrids, werewolves and even doppelgangers existed.  In this town, they were all present, which created a lethal mixture.
