I often call the Pigmasks fascists and militants and stuff along those lines. And like, yeah, they are. In the loosest sense. They're meant to represent these things, to a certain extent. But I feel like the big asterisk is that they're really just a cartoon performance of militarism. Porky isn't re-enacting real authoritarian violence, he's emulating his favorite comic books and action movies. Not some tactically-minded authoritarian dictator, just a child playing toy soldiers. Albeit with real people, who scarcely manage to bumble through the motions. The chain of command is so poorly organized, Pigmasks sometimes express outright confusion about who's in charge, or what they're expected to be doing. They step on each others' toes constantly. They talk a big game, but cower and lose resolve at the drop of a hat. They hardly know how to wield military force in any productive way. Porky certainly doesn't. His Commander and his army never actually kill anybody, either. In fact, I kinda get the impression murder's beyond the pale for them. That even Porky himself would be viscerally unnerved by that level of violence, like a kid who gets scared when he plays too rough and inadvertently draws blood.

The whole operation's as cardboard-thin as New Pork City. And it only (barely) functions because Tazmily & Nowhere are such a docile, pristine, perfectly innocent little bubble. I think the facade is kinda the point. They're not really imposing at all, at the end of the day. A mildly damning parody of the real deal, at worst. But there's something unnerving about seeing a child's play concept of military might made manifest. That this blundering mob of brainwashed soldier LARPers is Porky's idea of "power." And that so many Pigmasks just go along with it, in pursuit of a paycheck, or personal gain, or sheer reverence for the status quo.

Mother 1

I've been a Earthbound and Mother 3 fan for a long while, but like most people I haven't played Mother 1. Back then I was one of those people that go "Old thing? Ew gross....." for a lot of older games in that era. Now that I'm over that era of my tastes, I can comfortably say that this game rocks. It's very simple. Especially if you're used to the other games. And even with the 25th anniversary patch (which is what I played on btw) there's still some "of that era" stuff thats dated. But the game still has alot of that charm the series has. And with the patch having some qol changes (aka not needing to grind every time you get a new party member) is not a super long RPG.

Just a good ass game all around.
