Lenz - one form passes into another in a perennial disclosure
Exhibition and performance hosted by Neo, Padua, Italy
THE ARTISTS
Visual Samir Sayed Abdellattef [S E C T I O N P L U S]
Sound Alessandro Ragazzo
THE EXHIBITION PROJECT
The exhibition, developed on the two floors of the Neo space in Padua, showcases the visual and sound survey that the two artists have developed in the previous months, relating to the theme of the interior landscape expressed by Buchner in his novel "Lenz. Tale of a madness ", which is inspired by the name of the exhibition. This is a story that changes the narrative and therefore the exhibition space, in which "one form passes into another in a perennial disclosure" where nature is a representation of the immense and the divine and that sees Lenz, protagonist of the story, as the undisputed representative of a humanity whose existence clings to the uncontaminated elements of reality, so as not to get lost in the chaotic and uncertain projection that is its representation. What the two artists have in common is the research for new formal metaphors that reflect on the position of man and his relationship with the post-digital landscape of our society, which in the exhibition becomes a narration of the first psychological and then anthropological condition of the individual who lives in it. They worked together in the creation of a performance, the central element of the exhibition, which sees a soundscape work created by Alessandro Ragazzo and a visual created by Samir Sayed Abdellattef, presented along with other videos and installations.

THE ARTISTS
Visual Andrea Vitti
Sound Giulio Spampinato aka Coeden
THE EXHIBITION PROJECT
The visual project composes a dense vegetation in the exhibition space, made up of digital and geometric elaborations inspired by the mathematics of nature, in the shapes of fractals. As in a mantra, in this digital environment we discover defined movements, those of sound, which outline the dual profile of the whole experience. The environmental installation created for Derma by Andrea Vitti is composed of three video installations and two projections, performed live during the performance and are the result of his research on fractal geometry, and describes the apparently random forms of nature, such as rivers, profiles of the coasts, the trees. The planet that shapes the artist in this exhibition is a world in disorder, governed by chaos, but programmed with a mathematical language whose characters are geometric figures, circles, squares. The sound environment created and realized by Coeden represent an alternation between different colliding dimensions. From the distended and rarefied forms of the lunar landscapes we are dragged along the boundaries of underground kingdoms connoted by tormented rhythms of night dances, until they are blinded again from the sunlight that, obscured in turn by the black hand of the dark, tries to reassert itself.

THE ARTISTS
Visual Valerio Veneruso
Sound Gianluca Berti aka Schroeder*
THE EXHIBITION PROJECT
The "meme" is an entity consisting of an information recognizable by the intellect relating to human culture, replicable by a mind or a symbolic memory support. In the case of the Internet, it takes on the appearance of images that bear collective meanings, which propagate as it happens with the gene in the genetics. The concept originates in the book of Richard Dawkins "The selfish gene" of 1976. The concept of Derma develops starting from the investigation that the visual artist Valerio Veneruso plays on the power of the image in a contemporary, characterized by the loss of clear boundaries between the increasingly nuanced dimensions of the virtual and the real. Gianluca Berti from this evocation has created a sound dimension which is going to shape the perfect habitat of this phenomenon of digital cultural evolution. The sound generated digitally by software is interwoven with environmental recordings made by the artist and reworked with resampling of vintage synth recordings and emulators. The trace that comes out of it represents a non-place in which these abstract figures move.

THE ARTISTS
Visual Mauro Ferrario
Sound Alessio Ballerini
THE EXHIBITION PROJECT
Alessio Ballerini, sound artist and filmmaker, presents in Derma a research built through the contamination of the sound landscape with the "plastic" elements of electronic music. The technical-formal skill of the artist, reveals how the electronic part, the field recs and the parts played with the keystroke instruments manage to dialogue with each other. This transfiguration of sounds casts the listener into worlds that transcend from everyday reality, ferrying us on an introspective and almost ancestral journey. As with the sound, in the exhibition the visual work of the artist and sound designer Mauro is transformed into an unconscious metaphor that allows the individual to construct the missing parts of the scene. It builds a space that folds and changes material, whose walls are liquid or made of fabrics.

THE ARTISTS
Visual Lucrezia Negrini
Sound Filippo Nunziale aka Wavefold
THE EXHIBITION PROJECT
We find ourselves in an unreal city, built with the 3D architectures of the first virtual platforms that once allowed us to move and move in the dimension of the network, completely immersed in deafening algorithms of reality. Like the image, sound is built together with the experience of exploration. Audio fragments become the tonal matrices of this metropolis that develops, as happens with the image, on calculations and modules that repeat themselves to infinity, to arrive in time to lose shape and contours, dispersing in the ether. Through the 3D language Lucrezia Negrini creates a hybrid space, a place where the digital world and tangible reality merge into a single entity, contaminating each other, becoming landscape. Linked to the journey of the images, the sound environnement, which initially has a claustrophobic atmosphere, is gradually stratified by drone sounds, leaving room for pure vibration and oscillation.

THE ARTISTS
Visual Alice Palamenghi [Local~Δ§]
Sound Beatrice Goldoni aka B.E.A [Umlaut, Risuono]
THE EXHIBITION PROJECT
For DERMA, they developed a scenario that takes place through Beatrice's sound track, in a narration that combines musicality inspired by the aesthetic of “classical” in music, alternating with contemporary and unknown rhythms and atmospheres. In parallel, the virtual work of Alice Palamenghi is built around the sound and the environment of a world in the midst of the ages. The real vegetation that has inspired its 3D reproductions, returns to being matter in the space, closing the circle and imprisoning us in this maze and making clear the signs of the short passage in the Internet world. The classical perfection of the ancient statues and columns is interrupted both by the primitive irregularity of nature and the discontinuous flows of digital input, neon, glitch images. For Beatrice Goldoni, the composite / sampled sound that can be traced back to specific "classical" genres, becomes the equivalent of the repeated statue in the visuals, that is, the reassuring starting point from which everything is born, that she represent through a sound that is no longer decodable.

THE ARTISTS
Visual Samir Sayed Abdellattef [Local~Δ§]
Sound Davide Cairo aka Edisonnoside
THE EXHIBITION PROJECT
The "Mono no aware" is a Japanese aesthetic concept that expresses a strong emotional participation towards the beauty of nature and human life, with a consequent nostalgic sensation linked to its incessant change. Starting from this concept, first expressed in the sound and in the title of the last work of Edisonnoside, the two artists have woven their own languages and projects. Samir Sayed Abdellattef, sensibly near to Japanese aesthetics and philosophy, has created an immersive virtual dimension interpreting the themes of impermanence and transience of things, through the archetypal images of this culture: the falling petals of the cherry trees in bloom, the symbolic masks of the No Theater, all translated in a digital and disturbed language, destined to repeat themselves in an infinite loop.
