5 Famous Memes
In 1996, one of the first internet memes was born. It was an image of a baby dancing on a black background. This particular meme was featured on an episode of Ally McBeal.
There have been many memes over the past couple of decades that have made their debut on millions of screens. Here are just a few that have made the list.
Doge
Doge is an informal term for “dog.” This term is usually used in cases where there is an image of a Shiba Inus along with some sort of caption. Often times, text that is with the image is set in Comic Sans font.
Captions can be made for the different types of Doge people create. There are also many different adaptations of the Doge meme.
Trollface
Trollface is a character that is wearing a mischievous smile that is supposed to depict the facial expression of an internet troll. This meme was shared to show the actions of internet trolls and how they troll other people on the internet.
Other forms of the meme were created, like some with the caption of “U MAD BRO?” This meme also led to the use of a song sang by Eduard Khil called “ I Am Glad I'm Finally Going Home.”
Ugandan Knuckles
Ugandan Knuckles is a nickname given to the character Knuckles from the Sonic Franchise created by YouTuber Gregzilla. This character is often used in profile pictures in multiplayer games. The character is associated with the term “do you know the way,” and is typically spoken as “do you know de wey.”
This meme was extremely popular in the game VR Chat, where players would join the game with their character as Ugandan Knuckles and talk in voice chat saying “do you know de wey,” followed by mass trolling.
Pepe the Frog
Pepe the Frog is a personified frog character from the comic series Boy’s Club. Many of the different kinds of faces have been used as reaction faces, like Feels Good Man, Sad Frog, Angry Pepe, Smug Frog, and Well Meme’d.
This meme was so popular that many large companies and figures like Wendy’s, Donald Trump, and Katy Perry took advantage of its popularity on Twitter.
Ancient Aliens
Ancient Aliens is a series of images from the History Channel TV series with alien expert Giorgio A. Tsoukalos. On the show, he often tries to explain phenomena by saying that it was because of aliens. His claims have become exaggerated and eventually become laughable, lending to its popularity.
Captions that might appear on this meme are usually very exaggerated ideas about a topic, similar to claims that have been made on the show. These captions can also be compared to stoner-like ideas.
Conclusion
Memes have become a way that people communicate and share jokes with one another. Memes are ways for people to share common interests and humor through simple imagery and captions. This trend is only getting bigger, and there is no slowing down of memes on social media.

Inspirational Artist
Arthur Whitehead
One of the most inspirational artists to me currently is Arthur Whitehead. He primarily does 3D-related work, that pertains to product visualization. Some of the clients he has worked with are Dove, The Glenlivet, Maéstro, and more.
A lot of the work he creates that can be seen on his Instagram are recreations of existing products visualized in the way he wants it to look, like the iPhone Xs and Razer Black Widow. For most of his projects, his workflow consists of working with Cinema 4D and Octane Render. The visualizations that he creates are premium quality as if they were to be used for the actual products.
One of my favorite pieces from him is the watch renders for Maéstro. These images are rich and effectively communicate the quality of the products produced by Maéstro. The lighting of these renders suggests a higher quality of products that directly speak to the target audience of the brand.
Another piece that catches my attention is the Hunter's Edge project. This visualization of a can of the alcoholic beverage has extreme detail. The condensation is extremely accurately, the color palette screams premium, and the other small details add to the overall piece to make the viewer want to buy that beverage. One of my favorite parts about this render is the lighting. I love the use of warm and cool lights to give some color contrast in the piece. Both sidelights shape the can very well. The light above glistens and creates a specular highlight on the rim of the can. This gives the product more of a premium feel, as it contracts very well with the black surroundings. The gold accents on the can also lend to a more premium product, making the whole piece feel cohesive.
Another favorite of mine is the Razer Black Widow keyboard. This render of the keyboard directly speaks to the target audience: gamers. Not only is this a still visualization of the product, but it's also animated. The style of the animation is very common in the gaming industry, with the snappy camera movements and matched movements with the music. The lights from the keys are in sync with the music, as well as the camera movements, which provide the overall piece rhythm. The lighting of the product is very dark but contrasts well with everything else in the scene, especially the lights from the keys. This visualization is also used to make the product seem more premium to make people want to buy the product. Hopefully, he does more of this animation work in the future.
Arthur inspires me because I have recently been doing more 3D-related work, practice and having fun with the tools I have. I'm currently using Cinema 4D, Octane Render, and Corona Render for my 3D projects. This type of work is something I could see myself doing in the future, along with the primary work I do in UI/UX. Attached are some more shots of his work.

Nike #Breaking2 Campaign
This campaign’s goal was to bring people together for a marathon via Twitter Live. While focusing on the marathon and promoting athletes, they also promoted their own brand through the entire events with #Breaking2. Users could opt in to get reminders by liking or retweeting the posts. This basically allows a large number of people to engage in the campaign and actually watch the event. This also promoted one the new live video feature on Twiiter, essentially making viewers feel like they were at the sidelines. This was crowned Campaign’s 2017 Campaign of the Year and was the biggest-ever brand-driven live streaming event on Twitter to date.

Bruster's Real Ice Cream rebrand concept. This rebrand was developed as a project for a class. Taking this particular approach, it allows Bruster's to become more marketable to a younger target audience. It gives the overall brand a lighter, friendly appearance, reflecting the in-store experience that is welcoming and personal, while keeping the roots of the brand with the depiction of cherries. Other assets of the brand have been developed such as a seasonal menu and an advertisement. Ice cream photography taken by Lili Wall.
Bruster's Real Ice Cream is an American chain of ice cream parlors whose ice cream and frozen yogurt is made from a milk-based mix at each individual store. Their primary operating region is in most states east of the Mississippi River. The chain is based in the Pittsburgh suburb of Bridgewater, Pennsylvania.
