Look, let's be real here. The only reason Discord still exists is because it's been around for too long to have real competition. It's the same reason YouTube and Twitch still exist. What are you going to use without them? Vimeo? DailyMotion? Kick? They're the industry standard because there's nothing else in the industry, and you're the same. You do what you do mildly well, and no one challenges you on it. You've been putting features that people have begged for for years behind the Nitro paywall, and people put up with it by virtue of you still being decent and easy to use. However, do you remember when you tried to integrate NFTs? People cancelled their Nitro subscriptions en masse. I need you to understand that this will happen again. This username change is genuinely the worst thing you could do for your company outside of just shutting it down. People WANT to have the same username. This is one of Discord's most popular features. Removing this option from people will drop your userbase like a rock. Discord will be used like Twitter is still used: as a bare-bones app/website that people clown on for its awful management. Do better, unlock some Nitro features to the general public, and stop actively making this place worse.

discord is going to roll out a new system of usernames which means you will have to have a username which has to be completely unique from any other username. which means a LOT of people are going to have to choose a new username.

if you, like me and many other people, hate this idea i suggest submitting a request form:

under "what can we help you with?" choose "help & support" and then when it takes you to the form, under "type of question?" choose "feedback/new feature request"

give them feedback. let them know their userbase doesn't want this.
