“Um.. Today is my Friday and I get to go drink my night away. Does that count as good news?”
“Work was beyond stressful today. Please, I beg you to have some good news or something to make my day better.”

“Hey, little cutie.” Riley said as he started to stroke the dog’s head. “Has she now?” Riley let out a laugh. “Badge, huh? Sounds like an intimidating name.” He chukled. “Hope they get along well. Oh, Mephy is a pug. I don’t know why I named him Mephistopheles, because he’s the furthest thing from any kind of demon. How about Badge?”
Grant smiled down at the puppy as Riley pet her. “Badge is just a slightly older puppy. Maybe he’ll be intimidating when he gets older but.. Not so much now.” Grant chuckled. He raised his eye brows at the full name of the dog, “Alright, that’s cool. But pugs are adorable.” He added. “Badge is a Husky.”

amelia-hart:
She didn’t know what it was about puppies, or small animals in general, but they struck a cord with the usually put together, neutral faced Amelia. “Are you sure? Yes, absolutely!” Reaching for the dog, she couldn’t help but grin as she cradled the little dog against her chest. “Aren’t you just the cutest thing?” Holding the dog in one hand, Amelia reached over to gently stroke a finger against her neck, glancing back at the male. “I’m Amelia, and I’d keep an eye on me, I’m likely to run off with your dog and never give her back.”
“Oh, of course I’m sure. Scrap needs all the love and human interaction she can get.” He nodded and carefully handed the soft puppy over to Amelia. He smiled and slipped his hands into his pockets as she spoke to the dog. “I recognize you, pleased to officially meet you.” He replied. “I’m Grant Chambers, and I work for the Boston P.D.” He added. “Well, if that happens, I’d be sad but I know you’d give her lots of love. She has brothers and sisters in need of homes..” He tempted.

“She’s adorable. It makes me wish I had the time for a dog,” she gave a small smile as she reached her hand out for the puppy to smell.
Grant smiled and held Scrap out a little. Scrap sniffed Rowan’s hand before licking it and trying to nibble on her fingers. “What do you do for a living?” He asked.

“Beautiful it is, then. Although I don’t think there’s anything wrong about a girl being handsome. You know, sometimes you just happen to come across a particularly handsome lady,” Brigid laughed, eyes still glued to the dog. “Sure, yeah, you can have the handsome. May I hold her?”
“Like I said, handsome is another way to say beautiful, but not as common anymore.” He said to her. Grant laughed at how distracted she was by Scrap, “Of course, she needs all the human interaction she can get.”

“Then I hope you’re ready for random moment of the nights where she needs to pee. Until she can hold it until morning then I will congratulate you on that because I barely did that for my dog.” She laughed and rolled her eyes as she reached for the puppy, scratching behind her ear smiling. “Oh please, what’s a little puppy slobber?”
“I am ready. I just went through it with my slightly older Husky puppy.” He told her with a smile. “What kind of dog do you have?” He asked. he smiled and handed Scrap off to Elena, letting the girl hold her. “I’m lucky to have found her.” He mused.

Max nodded his head as he’d never heard a truer statement. Briefly considering the other male’s offer, he bit his lip in thought. “I’ll definitely consider it. How old are they?” He knew how much attention younger puppies needed, especially to be house trained and he wasn’t sure he had the free time for it.
“Don’t feel like you have too, or anything. I just told the adoption place that I’d let the word out.” He began. “But they’re about three months, super cute and the shelter is working on potty training.” He said.

grant.
Angela smiled widely at the man, leaning up onto their toes to nudge his hair with their nails. “Nothing to be embarrassed about,” they said smoothly, as they arranged his hairstyle into a more aesthetically pleasing shape. “Just be glad people like me are around to fix it.”
Grant chuckled and let them smooth out whatever hair was sticking out. “I didn’t bother to take of of my hair this morning. When you’re called in at three in the morning to investigate a crime scene-- You’re not too worried about your hair.” He told them and gave Angela a smile. “Thank you, by the way.”

“my parents didn’t give me many lessons, more focused on their own lives” he offers with a shrug as he continues to pet the dog. “i’m sleeping with this guy though and he has a cat so i count that as mine, even if he wouldn’t.”
“I’m sorry to hear that, man. You seem to be doing pretty well on your own, though right?” He spoke and played with Scrap’s feet. “Do you spend a lot of time with the cat? More than you’re boyfriend? Or.. Friend that you sleep with?” He asked. “Because I think you could consider it yours if you’re around it a lot.”

“I think you’ve got it in the bag. Especially against that outside guy. You’ve been with them for years, they can’t think bringing in some random new guy to boss everyone around is a good idea” she said. “It’s good, I guess. I’m still a research assistant, but the lab itself is pretty cool. We’re studying the decision making processes of cells, how cells react to environmental cues.” She looked around and hid her hands inside the sleeves of her hoodie against the chill. “As much as I love standing on this street corner… do you want to get coffee or something?"
Grant gave her a smile, “Thanks, Vera. I mean, it’s happened before, and probably will happen again. Not that those units did very well.” He told her. As she spoke, Grant found himself studying her. He was a very observant person, and didn’t like to not know things. He made a list in his head of things that have changed and things that haven’t. “Wow, that sounds important and incredibly cool.” He replied after she had finished. “Oh, of course, come on.” He agreed and began to head the way of the nearest coffee shop.

She found herself smiling when he did, remembering for a second how she missed seeing that. “Yea? That’s great! I hope you get it, really. Do you have a lot of other competition for the position? I mean, I’m sure you’ll beat them anyway even if you do.” She shrugged a little. “Life’s all right. Not much going on. I started working at a different lab this past summer.”
Grant smiled a half smile, “I do, yeah. Two out of the six of us are gunning for it, and not to mention the outside detective who want it.” He told her. He nodded as she told him about work, “That’s good, I think? Do you like it there? What are you doing there?” He asked.

“You know I don’t bite, right? At least not without permission,” she said in a small attempt at a joke at his response. As much as she wanted them to be friends and had wanted that for a long time now, it didn’t seem like they’d reached that point and she wasn’t sure anymore if they ever would. “Well, anyway… how’ve you been?”
Grant smiled a little at her joke. He appreciated it. “Oh I know.” He added with a wink. Then we went serious again, slipping his hands into the pockets of his sweatpants. “I’ve been alright, working. I’m trying to get promoted to sergeant within my unit, since the current one is going to retire soon.” He told her. “And how about you? How’s life?”

“Patience is a virtue but she will settle, don’t worry. It’ll help her having a big brother though.” Valentina was now relating far too personally with the animal, that was evident. “Just wait.”
Grant nodded, “Training is all about waiting and watching and correcting.” He chuckled. Badge was still a puppy, but well on his way to being an obedient dog. He’d do well with Scrap. “Have we met before?” Grant asked suddenly, smiling at her.

Recognizing the familiar face, Vera relaxed a bit. “Why, thank you,” she laughed. “I’m very impressed with myself as well for not scraping my face on asphalt. I’m fine though.“ She dusted off her hands and determined that there was no damage done. "How long have you been jogging behind me? Way to not say hi until I fell,” she joked.
Grant was about to reply when he closed his mouth again. He didn’t know what to say. He didn’t know why he didn’t say hello. Grant thought ‘maybe I should be over this’ each time he saw her on the street, but then ‘not today’ came through every time. “Uh, I’m sorry. I didn’t know if I should’ve, honestly.”

He let out a quiet ‘oh’, as he realized what the other male must be referring too. “Poor baby. At least it’s not too late for her to be shown some love. It’s not cheesy at all, man. Good on you for giving her a loving home.”
“Thanks, man. She deserves all the love she can get.” Grant had set Scrap down on the ground and now she was rolling around in some leaves. “Hey, if you really want, she has a few brothers up for adoption. Some went to police training, but others weren’t.” He added with a smile. Grant saw so much hate and crime in the world, and animals were a weakness for him. So full of innocence and didn’t deserve the pain they were handed.
