Gumshoe: I staked everything on this. My badge… The works!

Gumshoe: So here it is! My heart’s counting on this, too!

The Detective grinned. He lived through corruption in the police force, and was no stranger into taking down fellow officers, prosecutors, and even the Chief of Police. Gumshoe was never afraid of busting heads.

"You can count on me, sir! With the two of us working together again, there's no way we can lose!"

"Officers...? Well, I speak to Meekins from time to time.."

"But the most he could tell us is what time it is!"

"Detective! Put me down this instant!"

Ruffled, the Chief Prosecutor somehow manages to extricate himself from the older man’s impromptu embrace, and irritably begins to straighten his attire.

"Honestly…" 

Grousing a bit, he turns, thoughtful.

"There is much corruption within our own fold, Detective."

[And while you might be a bungler and somewhat of a clumsy oaf, I know that I can trust you to do the right thing and not serve your own purposes.]

"I can make no promises, of course, but we shall see how things go. As a prosecutor for this district, it was my duty to ensure that there were no shady or illegal dealings within these offices or the police department. That goes even more so for me now as Chief Prosecutor. I trust you to keep silent on this; your lack of communication with me until now may just yet serve us well."

The Chief Prosecutor taps his chin thoughtfully. It’s a large responsibility and he hesitates to give it to Gumshoe, but…

"Are you still in touch with anyone on the force? Any friends or colleagues?"

"Mr. Edgeworth...! You really mean it, sir?!"

The Detective wraps his bulky arms around his friend, lifting him slightly in a big bear hug. 

Cease with such downtrodden commentary, Detective. I may yet have a position for you on the force, if things consider on the path that they are on now.

Headcanon about the Ace Attorney series: Maggey and Dustin weren't "lovers"; she clearly didn't think of him that way. Everyone else assumed they were, which is why Maggey was so confused by the proclamation that they were. Gumshoe always has had his chance.

"Y-you're lying, pal! Maggey and Dustin...th-they were an item!"

(I didn't miss my chance...did I...?!)

Although I’m very happy with the news of Dual Destinies so far, it feels wrong to have Edgeworth in it without Gumshoe.
