one time i had a dream that tiktok users deemed “kid” as a slur and that you HAD to refer to them as minors otherwise you would get harassed and threatened with doxxing. you couldn’t say “when i was a kid” anymore for example you HAD to say “when i was a minor” instead

My dad sends me. Doctor Who character analysis sometimes and here's his latest:
11, more than any other Doctor, is the reason that River says, "Never let the Doctor see you get older." Rose, Martha, Amelia, Clara, Billie, Ryan, and Yaz are all young, all full of a sense of wonder for the things that the Doctor shows them. Donna is an adult. She first decided to become a companion because she was in a rut and wanted to run away from that. So 10 thought she would be like the the others. On their first trip, 9 showed Rose the end of the Earth. When she assumes that he is going to save the Earth, he corrected her. Stating that this is an unchangeable event. From the beginning, he trains her not to question his judgement on what he says cannot be changed. Donna was too old to fall for that and pushes back constantly. Okay, so you can't save everyone in Pompeii, then just save one person. It isn't an all or nothing proposition. He learned from that and tried to do better. Until he got too arrogant and tried to save someone he really should have let die. But then he became 11, the Doctor who forgets. The one who keeps running away more than any other. 200 years running away from Lake Silence. Years in a cloud over Victorian London. Years spent in a monastary.
If he can't save everyone, then fine. He won't save anyone.
Then he became 12, with a face to remind him of Donna's lesson.

Day seventeen! The complete set at last.
Remember when I joked about sticking him in the weird Gintama duck suit hoodie if we didn’t get enough requests to fill the challenge? Someone requested it anyway. 🐥

Sorry for being chronically online but theres something so tender about seeing the first online interactions from years ago between mutuals who are now inseparable/besties/dating even. To have such concrete proof of the first time you encountered each other through an innocuous "i love your edits:)" comment on a post... i dont know, i think it's one of the cutest things about the digital hell era we live in

Saw some ppl in Kelutral asking how to make the kxekx or kx sound properly and remembered this helpful linguistuc video on it I watched to realize how easier it to say it is than it seems. Its also called an ejective consonant and its much more common to make in speech (esp British English Speech and some American dialects) than one may realize!

Plus a Na'vi mention!
Furia pol sla'tsu lì'fyayä leNa'vi aypampor alunta fkol tsun futa tse'a Neytiriti reltsyìpmì arusìkx krrka krr alu 6:26. / Because Neytiri's picture is included in the thumbnail, he will describe Na'vi's plosives starting at 6:26.
After watching this video I cant unhear what was once an unnoticable sound that had no name to me. I can feel myself do it and hear it more definitively. Not only that, but to actually do it doesnt require as much tension and explosion of air as I previously thought while speaking Na'vi (thats just for style lol).
A prime example of the easiness of this sound is saying "what the fuck" with an emphasis on the -ck in 'fuck', which often comes out as a [k'], or kx in Na'vi.
Once you have that one, you have a much better awareness and grasp of how plosives are made to try the other 2 Na'vi has ([t'] or tx and [p'] or px).

(me, my parents, my sister, and the baby are sitting at the kitchen table eating lunch)
baby, pointing at the light fixture over the table and signing "on": o.*
my sister: we actually can't turn that light on right now, because the lightbulb inside is burnt out! it needs a new one.
baby: ighbu.
sister: yes, lightbulb! granddaddy said after we eat he's going to climb up there on a ladder and change it, and then the light will come on!
baby: gadada! adda, uuu! ighbu o!
sister: exactly!
baby, signing "on" and pointing at the light and then my dad, with increasing urgency: GADADA ADDA UUUU. O.
my sister: we're going to finish eating first though, ok?
baby: nonono. O. gadada adda uuu.
[a split second goes by]
baby, pointing to himself: ba. adda uuu. ighbu.
me: you're going to climb the ladder and change the lightbulb yourself?
baby: dzyeah. *pointing to the buckle where he is buckled into the high chair* ububu.
me: unbuckle you? so you can change the lightbulb?
baby, highly businesslike: dzyeah.
*pronounced like "on" without the n

So in my class we name our glue sticks to stop the kids losing or mistreating them - they're much less likely to lose a glue lid if you're shouting "oh no, Alfred's been decapitated". It's fun.
Now, I'm a big batfam girlie ✨ so naturally I named all our glues after these characters. We have Richard and Bruce and Stephanie and Barbara etc. you see the point.
Recently, the first glue stick ran out. It had to go in the bin so unfortunately it "died", and you'll never guess which glue stick was the first to die...
It was Jason.
You could not conceive the sound I made as I had to throw Jason in the bin as all the children shouted things like "Jason's dead" and "noooo Jason!"
Worst things worse, I couldn't even explain how ironic that was that Jason, the second robin, was the first glue to go!

You know what I love about Jurassic World? That it makes the "We won't make the same mistakes again- No, this time you're making totally new ones" quote entirely come true. Jurassic Park failed because they put dangerous animals they hardly knew anything about in a theme park setting and thought they could control them- and then, surprised pikachu face, it turned out they couldn't. But the point is, they actually learned from it. In Jurassic World, they knew more about the animals, their wants and needs, their natural behaviour, and designed the park around it. They didn't try to control the animals in situations where they couldn't, and focused on avoiding these situations and keeping everything in a setting where they actually COULD keep them under control. And it worked AMAZINGLY WELL. While Jurassic Park already failed when it was still under construction, Jurassic World opened its gates for the public. Hell, they were able to allow people to go canoeing next to sauropodes without having a single accident. The park was open for a long time and was incredibly successful. And then, they decided to create a new spectacular dinosaur just out of pure spite. They didn't know what kind of animal they were creating, and neither they cared. And then, shocker!, said animal destroyed Jurassic World because no one could predict how it would behave.
Jurassic Park is not a series about the dangers of bioengineering. It is a series about how capitalist greed turns bioengineering into a catastrophe.
