Two-tailed Scylla
Tumblr media
In the twin-tailed siren's family tree, next is Scylla. She's shown with two tails on urns in Etruscan art from about 400 BCE onwards.
In the article, this figure is identified only as a “monstrous form of Scylla” on an Etruscan stele at Bologna. The image above her is Circe flanked by two pigs, another character from the Odyssey.

I’m actually okay with Odo having a gender, because he was raised in a society with gender (which of course I find it ridiculous that Trek pretends other cultures like Bajor would have the same genders as us, but whatever), so it makes sense to me that he could end up identifying as one. But the other founders? Absolutely not. They’re slime. Why do they need gender? They spend most of their time as a melded singular unit, why do they need social categories or distinguishing characteristics at all? If the female founder thinks names are useless, why would she have a use for gender? Why??
Also, it would have been really cool to see Odo learn to reframe his thoughts on gender as he learns more about his culture.

odo art for today
Tumblr media
and heres just the lineart because i love nice crisp weighted lines.
rene had such a great way with body language which he leaned on during his performance as odo- i assume because his face was covered by a creepy skin-mask the whole time, limiting his facial expressions. very fun to see how he portrays this really gruff grumpy dude in his posture. he’s always skulking around with his head low and his nose high.
so i’ve finally got a good grasp on how to draw odo with stylistic flair. drawing goo is both meditatively fun and horribly tedious, 7/10.
i like his eyes. look at em. what a freak.

This is your monthly reminder that Terrance Zdunich sexually assaults and abuses women. You can see proof of the abuse on tumblr user’s FallForFables page. Anyone who willingly ignores the fact that he’s a womanizer and an abuser is an apologist. I don’t care how cool Zydrate Anatomy is or how much Repo! TDC, or TDC-A helped you, you can appreciate what the work did for you without condoning the one who made it. Additionally, you can call me a liar, a bitch, or a “whore who didn’t get attention” all you want, it won’t change the fact that he’s hurt women and will continue to hurt women until he’s cancelled. Don’t let yourself be fooled by a silver tongue. Stand beside your fellow women and don’t allow creeps to continue to occupy Cult Media spaces. Keep yourselves safe.
Thanks for attentending my TED talk.

Tarot cards? Are you romani? I've heard from some romani that they don't like non-romani doing tarot card. Cultural appropriation or something. Not that I even have an opinion on the subject. Just wondering about your thoughts.
I’m not Romani. This is actually the first time anyone has said anything to me about it, and I’ve actually never seen anything about it before, so I can’t be sure if it’s a thing or not. I know that it is highly offensive to use Romani dress as a costume and to use racial slurs pertaining to the Romani people. As far as tarot goes, *shrug*
I know that the Tarot has been around for around six-hundred years and started out as a pack of playing cards. It seems to have gotten it’s start in France and/or Italy, so the Romani probably were involved in its inception, but it’s not really clear. However, as the original game was morphed into a divination tool, it was adapted to include all kinds of occult imagery from Christian, Jewish, Greek, and Egyptian mysticism. Each trump card was assigned a Hebrew letter, and each trump falls on a path between two Sephirot on the Tree of Life from Kabbalah (Qabalah?). The pip (numbered) cards all fall in the 10 Sephirot and every card is assigned an astrological correspondence.
There are tons of decks, made by and for a multitude of cultures and sub-cultures. As the origins of the original game aren’t very clear, I can’t say much about appropriation in this instance. Now, dressing up like a *gypsy* and doing tarot card readings? Yeah, that’s shitty, and needs to be discouraged. A) it’s using Romani people as a costume, and B) it’s stereotyping Romani women as fortune-tellers (who are usually looked upon with mistrust by outsiders). But Tarot as a whole has become so widespread and different from its origins that I don’t think it is that inappropriate to use.
As always, if anyone who knows better than me has input, please let me know.

Rodnovery Masterpost For English Speakers Reposted
I MADE THIS LIST. I’m sorry everyone I’m having rl problems and sometimes I have issues where I delete my tumblr accounts because of said issues. I’m gonna try to stop that.
Hi everyone. So I’ve noticed quite a few English speakers or North Americans getting interested in their heritage or wanting to go into Slavic paganism. I think that’s fantastic! and there’s nothing I love more than talking about Slavic paganism and helping people with it because it has become my passion :) so I’ve decided to make a master post on resources for English speakers. If anything should be added, corrected etc. I would ask that NATIONALLY SLAVIC “rodnovers” correct me. Thank you, and enjoy.
I do not claim to be the “voice” of Slavic paganism.
Books to Avoid:
Book of Veles
ANYTHING by Dmitriy Kushnir
The following list is largely eastern Slavic/Russian based. Most information is universal from what I gather, but if you’re specifically looking for West Slavic customs…you’re mostly out of luck.
Books to read (list compiled by grumpylokeanelder, as I felt he covered it all. I added a few books here and there.)
Note: I DO NOT guarantee these will be cheap.
Polish Herbs, Flowers, and Folk Medicine by Sophie Hodorowicz
Polish Folklore and Myth by Joanne Asala
Polish Customs, Traditions, and Folklore by Sophie Hodorowicz and Mary Anne Knab
Fairy Tales of the Russians and Other Slavs by Ace G. Pilkington and Olga A. Pilkington
Russian Magic: Living Folk Traditions of an Enchanted Landscape by Cherry Gilchrist
Perun: The God of Thunder by Mark Yoffe and Joseph Krafczik
Russian Folk Belief by Linda J. Ivanits and Sophie Schiller <- a bit scholarly but so very information-packed, very recommended
Russian Fairy Tales by Aleksandr Afanasev, Alexander Alexeieff, and Norbert Guterman
A Russian Herbal: Traditional Remedies for Health and Healing by Igor Vilevich Zevin, Nathaniel Altman, and Lilia Vasilevna Zevin
The Bathhouse at Midnight: An Historical Survey of Magic and Divination in Russia by W. F. Ryan
Balkan Traditional Witchcraft by Radomir Ristic and Michael C Carter (I’ve heard mixed things about this and yes, it’s Balkan, but there’s a lot of cultural exchange there.)
Slavic Folklore: A Handbook by Natalie Kononenko
Myths and Folk Tales of the Russians, Western Slavs, and Magyars by Jeremiah Curtin
An Anthology of Russian Folk Epics by James Bailey and Tatyana Ivanova
An Anthology of Russian Folktales by Jack V. Haney
Politicizing Magic: An Anthology of Russian and Soviet Fairy Tales by Marina Balina, Helena Goscilo and Mark Lipovetsky
Baba Yaga: The Ambiguous Mother and Witch of the Russian Folktale by Andreas Johns
Tales from Slavic Myths by Ivan Hudec
Baba Yaga: The Wild Witch of the East in Russian Fairy Tales by Sibelan Forrester, Helena Goscilo and Martin Skoro
Return Of The Ancestral Gods by Mariya Lesiv

A Few Notes
Devana and Belobog are NOT deities
The Book Of Veles is a FORGERY and should be avoided at all costs as well as anything that lists it as a resource.
Slavic Paganism is RAMPANT with negative nationalism, racism, xenophobia, sexism, and anti Judaic/Christian views. TREAD CAREFULLY.
The Kolovrat, while not a racist symbol, is being co opted by racist Slavic pagans. I mean, do what you want…  but be careful.
We don’t have any epic poetry or sagas. There was no writing system at the time. So… hope you love UPG.
Don’t ever have Perun and Veles share an altar. They are enemies and it’s considered disrespectful. Never have their idols close together or near each other. As for working with them both? It’s not UNHEARD of but not recommended.
I honestly recommend learning a second language to read books that will give more information than we have.
Be respectful to our (nationally) Slavic practitioners. Just because you are maybe ethnically Slavic, doesn’t mean you’re entitled to information nor is this your culture. Be respectful at all times.
Slavic Paganism is an OPEN religion
If you’re not nationally or ethnically “Slavic” and want to go into this… you’re gonna get some weird looks. This is overall a cultural movement so it’s somewhat understandable and the faith is very insular. But it’s still an OPEN religion. Don’t let anyone tell you what to do. Be respectful of the culture, the gods, and the faith. You’re good.
The “Slavic Mythology” Page on Wikipedia is the most accurate website you’ll encounter. (That is the ironic truth)
This list will always be updated but this is it so far. I hope you all enjoyed and found this insightful. Thanks for reading!
