Ngl anon, it took me a little bit to read this lol

I’m reasonably excited, but not because of the trailer. It didn’t give us much of anything new— like I said before, all of the gameplay footage came from the announcement trailer last December, and most of the shots were originally posted to the Steam page. I think the only original things we got were 1) a better look at Sammy’s model and 2) a better look at the Bendy animatronic.

Most of my excitement comes from the release date, just to have something new and fun on the horizon. There’s still potential for lore and good gameplay, but potential can only go so far. The little glimpses I’ve seen have definitely given me some hope, so I’m cautiously optimistic about Lone Wolf.

So overall, from a scale from 1 to “Build Our Machine”, I’d say I’m “the first three seconds of the song,” haha.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Bendy books being de-canonized was a RECENT development. I think people have either forgotten this or chosen to ignore it altogether. The author confirmed Dreams Come to Life was canon at least twice, and going forward no other books were challenged on their canonicity by Mike and Meatly (at least not that I could find,) leading people to believe that they were canon, which was a reasonable assumption to make based on the content of each new installment.

Adrienne said they were canon in 2019, at least once on Twitter (Tweet still up) and once in DM's. You never said the books weren't canon until a few months ago. MANY people believed that they were. If this was "always" the case, SOMEONE withheld this information from the author of the damn Bendy books (who, might I add, made conscious efforts to make them fit into the plot.) I absolutely am sick of the narrative that's being pushed with the Bendy books having never been canon.

Lone Wolf trailer was a little underwhelming— didn’t really show me anything I haven’t seen yet, besides a better look at Sammy and the Bendy animatronic attack screen. At least we have a release date: August 15th.

The book situation is frustrating as hell, and I’m running out of things to say about it, but it’s just so, so infuriating. Why the hell would I spend time and money on something that has no canonical connection to the main story? If I wanted wanted to do that, I’d read fanfiction— at least it would be free.

It also tells me that Meatly doesn’t have a great grasp on the story. The main plot points, sure— but the fine details? Not a chance. He’s essentially cobbling a story together with duct tape and a prayer, and trying to fix it as it goes along. But you can’t just take out huge chunks of the lore and not have a mess of a story. We’ve lost explanations of how major characters died, how the Gent company works/what they’re trying to accomplish, Joey and Allison’s relationship, and a lot more. By trying to trim the excess and make the overall story more streamlined, he’s just made it worse, more confusing, and honestly a lot emptier. The books gave us a real glimpse into the world that the games just didn’t.

Sure, the books convoluted the overall lore sometimes (looking at you, Fade To Black). But the fact that the books and the games couldn’t agree on fundamental parts of the lore (like characterization, timelines, and how the ink functions) once again tells me that Meatly doesn’t have a concrete grasp on the story he’s trying to tell. And it certainly doesn’t help that we’re left with huge holes in the story without anything to fill it with. As much as I loved Dark Revival, it gave us almost nothing to work with in terms of lore— meaning it didn’t really answer the questions that Ink Machine left us with.

I’m just tired. I’m not going to be buying/reading any more Bendy books, because there’s really no point. Lone Wolf, Bendy 3, and whatever games come next better knock it out of the park to make up for this.
