I work with substance use disorders and the opioid recovery program, and what really bugs me is that if any of my clients are incarcerated they need to be on an active Rx for the dr to continue it while in jail. Now this is different from prison because prison offers the attendings more leeway on what can be started, but jail is *typically* a shorter stay. The issue however is less about starting the medication and more about how quickly it can be stopped because of so many ridiculous reasons. Diversion is the usual catch all, the claim being the person is trying to cheek their medication to sell it to someone else. Nevermind that depending on the hierarchy some clients are forced by others to give over their meds.
Now Canada is thankfully a bit different than the US. And thankfully we have a good attending handling Rx's for the local jail because they've started maintaining opioid agonist therapy until clients can be seen by us, usually within ten days of being released. The unfortunate side of things I've heard from some clients is that they'll get started on ADHD meds or on mental health meds in the jail only for it to be cancelled upon release because they don't have a family Doctor. We have a doctor shortage around here and the biggest bummer I've got on my list of them is that a good 1/3 to 1/2 of my clients do not have a primary care physician to manage the rest of their healthcare.
There is a GIANT list of drugs I'm not allowed to prescribe when I work at the jail, which I call "The No-No List," and I swear to God I learn something new and horrifying every day about what people are snorting, injecting, making shivs out of, or otherwise. Please do not do the things that lead to going to jail, because you will hate it, and those things are by and large not good for you anyway. I know growing up with a shit-ton of adverse childhood events drastically raises your risk, and I can't say I know your situation, but I do know you will not like jail at all.
#meph talks medical stuff#work talk#i really do love my job#but there are many people in gov't I would like to punch because of the situation we are now#150k are without a family doctor in nova Scotia as of august of this year#while thats about 15% of the population that ia still way too many and it feels disproportionately high in rural areas

Do you think Icarus would be into waxplay or would that be his safeword zone cuz of trauma
#i think it would be right up his alley#look he's at apex of his joy and freedom as he soars higher and higher thebwater#drawn closer to the sun with each lift from the wind#so i dont think he would register the pain of the melting wax as anything but more pleasure#that too sharp kind that comes with emotions and sensation that are a little beyond your control#i think wax play would probably bring him back there#the trick with icarus is that he would be someone of extremes and need a firm hand to remind him his safewords exist

okay this yarn better go well with this pattern, because I am doing a foundation hdc for it and there is no coming back from the amount of self-control and concentration it takes to do a good foundation stitch let alone 100+ of them

First attempt and attempt two side by side.
I've begun the Noëlle blanket, which is going to require 182 of these hexagons. Currently they take about an hour to complete, however I'm sure that will shrink as I get better. My gauge is off, the blocks are supposed to 2.75 inches across and mine are 4 inches and 3.5 respectively.
Not sure if I'm going to through the colours by number or go pick my favourites and go from there.

My ‘Bloomfield’ (aka, ‘Hobbit Throw’) is coming along nicely. I hook a bunch of circles, then square them up and join. Although there are a number of other projects I’m eager to start (or finish,) this one has all of my attention. I’m excited to see it through!
#this is gorgeous#add it to the list#dear gods my library on ravelry is now a mess#but there are so many pretty patterns#and i want to do them all#crochet#fibre arts

Other projects that currently don't have a place. Top is the Campfire Cardigan, I'm much further than this photo but I also lost my favourite crochet hook so I'm waiting for a new one which is on the way.
I had some random blanket yarn that I tried to crochet six months ago and hated, but found a granny square pattern I was comfortable with. The cats love it even if it's not quite finished.
Next one is a square from the Flower Showers Blanket by Kristen Ballering, it's very tiny, very adorable, I'm not sure I'm a fan of the colours I chose but I was mostly testing to try to learn a stitch.
Obligatory cat photo enjoying the crochet. Her name is Kili and she's precious.
And finally a hexagon test granny square to learn how to do one. I really like the colours in this one.
