“And it does seem you have a certain flair for it,” Kol continued as he eyed the grisly scene before him with no small amount of interest. “Tell me, have you met Bex yet? My sweet sister reacts quite similarly when insulted. I’d wager you two would get along swimmingly.”

As much as it irked him to say it, Kal hadn’t had any major hand in the Council’s doings. Marnie had been the one that had rashly made the wager, and while his father’s old friends had kept him updated - he was hardly to blame for any of what had transpired since she had defeated him the previous Halloween. He’d been otherwise occupied with freeing himself from his imprisonment and then with university classes that kept him far too busy to scheme.

That didn’t mean he wasn’t thoroughly enjoying her predicament however. “Afraid not, Marnie,” Kal chuckled. “I’ll, uh…be the first to admit this whole thing has been wildly entertaining for me, and I’m flattered you think I’ve got the time to make you Cromwells miserable. But you’re stirring the wrong cauldron.”

“I’m just the messenger,” he admitted with a shrug, tucking his hands in the pockets of a familiar leather jacket. “The Council asked me to drop by because I was more familiar with the workings of your precious mortal world than they are.”

It had been years since Marnie had heard that voice, one she didn't think she would ever hear again, her eyes widening in dread and surprise at it. How had Kal known about her deal with the Council, how she had foolishly bet all of her family's powers if this bridge between worlds hadn't worked on time? Once with him aiming to ruin any kind of connection between the two worlds -her worlds- had been enough, she wasn't about to let it happen again.

But for as much as Marnie wanted to have faith in herself again, she had been seeing the small changes here and there with the Halloweentown students, with her human friends.

"No, it's not," she replied, fire in her voice as she took a step closer to the warlock. "I still have until sunset tomorrow, and-" The Cromwell paused a moment, her head then tilting ever so slightly in realization. "... It's been you, hasn't it? This whole time, it was you! Messing with the exchange kids, with my magic!" A small huff of a mocking laugh. "You know, I really don't want to know how you'd react after a breakup."

Laughing a bit as Star chucked the crystal at him, Paul reached out and snagged it mid-air before it could land a hit. “I’m sure you don’t, Starry girl,” he teased as he tossed the tiger’s eye from hand to hand, admiring the way the firelight made the gem come to life. “But remind me again, which one of us is the vampire with superior eyesight here?”

“Just because you’re in denial doesn’t make the rest of us oblivious, babe,” Paul pointed out. Riling up his new little sister was a fun way to pass the night. It made the hotel feel a little more lively than it had before she’d arrived, and for the most part he could take almost anything she threw at him - except that.

“Maria’s…not a thing, girly. Not in the way you think she is, at least. I don’t…know who she is. Was? The name stuck with me. The meaning behind it got lost.” For all the vampire knew, she had been his mother, his wife, or his sister. She might have even been his sire, but Paul had no way of finding out. That knowledge, like so many other things he’d known before arriving in Santa Carla, had been lost to time.

The tiger's eye stone remained in Star's hand, brown eyes in a rare, small glare directed at the blond. Where Dwayne had been careful to mention her closeness to Michael, even seeing through her fabricated stories Star told herself, Paul had been different. He had instead adapted the complete teasing brother characteristic, knowing full-well that she had been trying to downplay any sort of accusation that was about the newest member of the Lost Boys.

"I think this one might be better," she practically snapped, giving it a throw in Paul's direction, "It'll help you see things more clearly, because I don't know what you're talking about!" The smallest bit of color rose to her cheeks, for once wishing she maybe was a full vampire like the rest of them; it would have made it easier to hide her emotions. "But besides that, I can't imagine you ever finding someone. Unless..." Her mind wracked a quick second, before her eyes lit up, a name she had heard being mentioned amongst the boys. "Someone named Maria?"

“His Majesty was the one who brought it up initially,” Evie admitted with a little sigh. “But Ben couldn’t have his name tied to it for…obvious reasons.” Admittedly, he had only mentioned the idea in passing. It was a great proposal though, and the bluenette had seen no problem in running it past Rachel. She’d had no idea the other girl would take the concept and run with it the way she had. “This whole thing was a gamble. We knew King Beast and his lackeys wouldn’t like the thought of losing influence over Auradon’s policies so soon.”

⸻ rachel had really thought that her and evie could convince the council together. surely, two heads were better than one and rachel didn't need ben's approval for everything , right? he trusted her enough and she'd always proved how hard she worked. so this one little sneak action shouldn't make him too angry. or at least that's what rachel told herself. "do we pretend he's going crazy and act innocent? maybe if we say it enough, he'll actually believe it's some kind of prank or something."
