Middle of my vacation, so I loaded my car with two good college friends and a bunch of snacks and hightailed it to the Oregon Coast. Laughs were had, s’mores were consumed, pictures were taken and good times were enjoyed by all.

I could watch the movie again...OR...I could jump into all the special features I've been waiting six months to see...? Cue the Bonus Disc!!

One of the things I've had to get used to out in the desert is the absence of sound. Sitting atop Crown Point is one of the most serene and stunning places I've ever been to. (at Crown Point State Park)

If there’s a perk to living in the middle of nowhere, it’s being able to find moments like this. The Blue Moon over a wide open wheat field.

Whenever I go out with my camera, I have no expectations of coming back with anything good. I’m always hopeful, to be sure, but I don’t know for sure until I get back and check my memory card. I was out in the dark for about four hours last night, trying to finally get star shooting right on my Nikon D5000. I’d like to think I succeeded.

For the most part, living in the high desert of the Pacific Northwest is a question of how much brown can you look at in a given day. These, however, reside just outside my living room window, so I figured it was best to get a picture of them before the summer heat scorches them for another year.

Went back to Banks Lake Canyon to take some night pics and got this sunset shot with Venus blazing over the horizon.

The one thing I wasn’t prepared for on my daytrip was the sheer amount of stillness. I’ve spent my life living predominantly in big cities and noisy places. There are places out here where the only sound is the wind as it winds through the canyons. I’ll never forget that.

I did something I’ve never really done and took a day off from work and chose to get lost in the open space of central Washington, having no idea this was what I’d end up finding.  All images copyright 2015 - Devin Higgins

Sometimes, you have to go out of your way to find things to take pictures of in the desert. Sometimes, it can make it easy for you.
