When they got home, Dex tackled John to the ground.

Roy felt a tug on his leg and when he looked down he saw Dex pulling from his pants with his leash in his mouth.

He’d gotten somewhat used to having the hound around, but he could still startle him a bit. Roy chuckled as he took the leash. “You want to go for a walk?” he guessed.

Dex whined, but walked next to Roy dramatically slow.

Roy felt a tug on his leg and when he looked down he saw Dex pulling from his pants with his leash in his mouth.

Dex slowed down until stopping and whined, rubbing his head on Roy's leg as a way to apologize. The girl from before was close again and looking at his master, Dex didn't growl because Roy had been clear not to do it, but he wanted to.

Dex got lost in the excitement and started to run far too fast for a human, even a human as trained as Roy.

Dex ran, ignoring other dogs and humans, he just wanted to spend time with his new master. He caught the ball in the air and went back running. Once he grew bored of it, he grabbed his own leash and gave it to Roy. He didn't give him time to think before he started running.

Dex had been ordered months ago to accept Roy as family, but he finally actually felt it was true. He gave him treats, took him on walks and threw the ball for him. He was a good human and master.

When the woman left, Dex wagged his tail again and barked, happy. He rubbed his head against Roy's leg, proud of himself. He got on two legs, sporting his weight with his front legs on Roy's shoulders and licked his face a bit.

Dex, being a dog, and especially John's guard dog, didn't understand fully what being in an open relationship was. And, considering he thought of Roy as his property, he really didn't like that prey looking at his master in that way. He growled at her once he reached Roy, hoping she wouldn't get close.

Dex couldn't eat her, but he could scare her.

John took him to where the newborn twins were and laid there, the feet of their crib, keeping watch.
