Backstory: Ruby grew up as Calliope, a high elf who never quite fit in well in high society due to her personality being more chaotic and less likely to follow the rules. As she matured into adulthood she ran away from her family to join Volesse, a wood elf, as a pirate. After taking over a corrupt ship, Volesse became captain and made Ruby her first mate. They fell in love and were happy together on their ship for many years, until Volesse was arrested and sentenced to death for treason against the elven kingdom. As Ruby lost the love of her life she also assumed the responsibilities of being captain of the ship and leading her fellow crewmates. Years later, after she seemed to have moved on, she gets news that her family has put a bounty out for her to be brought back to them, and that Volesse may still be alive. From there, she joins Jess, Aru, Nola, Sadao, and Nemu in doing odd jobs for Conkin Neos, an official in the city of Safe Haven, in order to gain more information about Volesse.
