the thing about maggie scully in wetwired is she remember's scully's reaction when she thought mulder was dead and how everything she held true started to fall apart without him and everything she did was wrong if mulder was dead. maggie remembers when scully was missing and mulder was a pillar of strength for her who never gave up on scully even as he so clearly couldn't hold it together. he asked about scully's cross and tried to give it to maggie but she returned it to him and he wore it around his neck. she remembers him in the hospital, screaming at doctors, desperately trying to keep her alive despite signing her living will, the way he sat at her bedside and showed up with a silly video tape & returned her necklace to her. she remembers what scully said to him: "i had the strength of your beliefs."

so when scully comes to her house after mulder told her that scully's gone missing & they aren't exactly sure what happened, and scully is ranting to her about mulder deceiving her and abducting her and putting a chip in her neck — she tried to deal with it on her own, talk her daughter down until mulder wouldn't let her do it alone. she stands in front of mulder to stop her daughter who she knows is not in her right mind. she's protecting mulder, but so much more than that she's protecting scully, the only daughter she has left who rarely turns to her mother for anything, who keeps her own counsel and only came to her twice in the last year. both times because of mulder. maggie scully is under no illusions of what's between her daughter & mulder, and she knows how important scully's job & partnership are to her regardless. maggie can imagine how the weight of killing or hurting mulder would destroy scully. she already shot him to protect him, and i think that was incredibly hard for her to do.

i think maggie has a tough time connecting to & understanding scully, but mulder isn't one of those things (well, not completely lol)

something i love about mulder is how charming & lovable he actually is. like yeah, he's spooky, an outcast. it's a choice he made because he believes the truth is out there and he wants to help every person he meets. it's so endearing and attractive. he's so kind and so good. he listens to people and gives everyone a chance to speak & change their lives, or at least someone else's. he presents them with choices they don't believe they have. it puts women & children & victims at ease. it's very special. he's very special.

Ok everyone loves the Hollywood A.D. bathtub phone call scene but how come I've literally never seen anyone specifically mention this absolutely adorable moment of Scully fidgeting with her own nose??? I don't think I even noticed it until like a year ago and I just now remembered it again

scully's "mulder, you just keep unfolding like a flower" feels like it has a double meaning. in the way that scully loves learning about him. she is always listening to him, she follows him because whatever she thinks about his theories, his instincts are incredible. conduit was especially eye opening for her, and she took the time to listen to the tapes of his regression. she's already met jerry and witnessed his reaction to the man's overstepping, disregard & death. and in fire, it's an ex girlfriend and he jumps to attention right away despite phoebe's violations. unfolding in scully's mind as she learns more, and for phoebe letting her hurt him again. "oh is that what you were extending?" because she can see how phoebe ~affects him, and he can try to pretend but the display when she first showed up told scully just about everything she needed to know. she really didn't need mulder to tell her much to ~get it.

(like it's completely mulder's nature to help anyone who asks or needs it or he thinks he can help. and scully watching person after person taking advantage of his kindness & empathy & openness & gentleness — no wonder she distrusts deep throat and later krycek and his old boss from grotesque and every other person that comes near him. and she only gets worse about it and i love that about her so much)
