"Of course I'm a threat. Why? Did you think for a moment I wasn't?" Emma Frost, darling. If you need something, please ask- or better yet, try begging. We'll see if I'm in a giving mood. [closed rp blog for Stolen Hope]

“You certainly shouldn’t,” Emma smirked, quite obviously smug and entirely self-assured. She knew exactly who and what she was, there was more than a touch of comfort and confidence to be taken from it - something that she had sorely lacked, as a child. But now? She could not have gotten to where she was without understanding exactly who she was, in and out. And she was satisfied with it. “I’m absolutely dazzling, darling, every inch.” Arrogant, certainly, but there was a certain appeal in that too, if you asked her.
Certainly seemed to work just fine for most men within the Hellfire Club. And most men in general, with more than a few women and other genders thrown in. Emma practically soaked in the compliments, verbal or mental, loving the attention paid. Almost made up for being ignored as the middle daughter of the Frosts for so long.
The drink was unusual, getting a suitably impressed noise from Emma as she grinned, “I like it. Anything with bourbon and triple sec has my complete attention though, I must admit. And it’s different than the usual classics most will order for me - which generally boils down to different kinds of martinis. Not bad, but new is always nice. I find it’s difficult to be surprised, these days. But you, James, are managing it quite well, I admit.”

Bucky smirked, somewhere between amused and interested. “Emma,” he repeated. “Beautiful name. Don’t know if I expected anything different, mind you.” Briefly he wondered if his flirting was a bit out of date; it was like an old outfit he could throw on at will. It felt more like home than his clothes did now. Although they sat well on him, they didn’t feel like his. They were starched and stiff and warm, but everything was warm now. Sometimes he missed the cold, which was insane, but he missed it, like a lot of other things.
Tumblr media
“You would, eh?” Bucky said, leaning in a little closer to both Emma and the bar. He tried to cast his mind back to… It must’ve been ‘79, the last mission he’d had where the Soviets trusted him to use his words instead of his gun. Then he thought about ‘42, the last time he bought a girl a drink before war was a constant in the back of his mind. Finally he settled on the Stork Club’s Commando Cocktail, where Dum-Dum had decided on the name for their squad.
He called out to the bartender. “Bourbon with some triple sec, two dashes of pernod and half a lime, for the lady.” He glanced over at Emma, an easy smile on his face. “That alright for you, darling?”

Oh, he was charming. Dark hair, dark eyes, carried himself well. Charming smile matched with what seemed like a toned body. Attractive and just enough confidence in his stance to imply he knew it - nowhere near the levels of self assurance someone like Namor possessed, but it was still enough to add to his overall appeal. She almost found it endearing and would have, years and years ago. Now, she was far too familiar with how much of an act it was for most - herself included, when she wanted something. So it became an act, wondering if it was real or faked. It would’ve been easier to just reach out to his mind and find out, but that took away the game of it. Make it less interesting, less fun.
Emma found herself smiling along with him, actually interested for the first time that evening. “No need to try and work it out, darling, I’m always happy to have money spent on me - and I don’t bite. Until asked.” Or begged, as the case might be.
Tumblr media
“James,” her smile was warm, “In which case, Emma, please.” The pause was even more intriguing, indicated a false name. Which usually meant the type of man who wanted to have sex and never be contacted again - so strange, then, that it wasn’t the kind of vibe she’d gotten from his mind. Something else, then. Well, at least she was far from bored.
She put aside the glass, tilting her head and smiling away, filing away the desire to test the waters regarding his name for a later time - better strategy to wait and allow him to relax a bit more. Try to collect more information, see if there were other instances of inconsistency. “I was enjoying a mojito, but I’d be interested to see what you’d pick for me.”
@diamondfrost
There was something there, something in his mind that wasn’t him, at least he didn’t think it was. If he hadn’t been so sensitive to even the slightest loss of self, he wouldn’t have noticed. It was probably just his old self coming back to haunt him.
“You caught me,” he said with a smile. “I’ve been trying to work out how to ask for a while. Never had a woman call me out for it, though.” He didn’t really mind, in fact, he enjoyed the fact that in the future (or the present, rather) more women felt free to speak their mind. During the war, there was Peggy, and not many others.
Tumblr media
“Nice to meet you, Miss Frost,” he said smoothly. “I’m…” He hesitated for a moment. Bucky was a bit of an unusual name; immediately the connection might be made to Captain America’s wartime sidekick, who was undoubtedly in the news after D.C. “James,” he settled on. “James Barnes.”
For once, he loved the anonymity of his name. “What are you having then, darling?” he asked, slightly distracted by how her edges seemed to glow. Not many people had that beauty about them, but she did. Plus, there was something that made Bucky think there was more to her, and it intrigued him.

His mind felt... odd, as though it was riddled with something lurking in the corners. Emma brushed against it instinctively, the gesture as natural as shaking hands to someone like her. Part of forming initial impressions, nothing to actually eavesdrop on particular thoughts, just the smallest of touches. Open, friendly, the charm apparent in more than a few ways but just enough other there to be intriguing. She withdrew the touch as she smiled away, tossing her hair over her shoulder, “Is that an offer to buy me a drink I hear, darling? Because it certainly sounds like it should be. Otherwise that’s just teasing.”
Tumblr media
“Emma Frost, Mr...?” She let it be a question, figuring it was the more polite move. No need to find the answer and scare this one off too quickly. “And yes, more than a bit. I’m rather dazzling, I know.” In and out of diamond form, Emma always knew how to present herself. How to catch the light. “And I appreciate you noticing.”
Bucky had actually chosen someplace else to go that night that wasn’t a part of his usual rotation, and it had paid off. Almost the second he entered, his eyes caught on a woman who was, at the least, beautiful and, at the most, breathtaking. One of the things that Bucky shared with his past self was an appreciation of gorgeous women, and so he couldn’t quite take his eyes off of her. Being called out on it though was new. He laughed and gave her a smile. “Sorry, sweetheart,” he said. “You’ve got to be used to it though, lookin’ like that. Bet you’ve never bought a drink in your life.”

Emma picked up on the line of thoughts buzzing through the other woman’s head, the little rebuke earning a chuckle from her. “Perhaps not,” She smirked, playful rather than hostile - riding the excitement of a concert nearby, enjoying the adrenaline for the evening. Better than the rampant fear that had been around, lately, that was for certain. Made for a good change of pace.
“But I promise I am well-equipped to understand the sentiment perfectly well, so I can appreciate it, wording aside.”
Tumblr media
“I’m Emma Frost. And you are?”
Winnie jumps a bit, pulled out of her train of thought to find that…she’d zoned out staring at a random woman. An admittedly pretty random woman, true, but still…creepy. And she still hadn’t said anything. Come on Winnie, SPEAK. “Erm, sorry, I just sort of… zoned out a bit? Whilst staring at you? I- There’s no way to word that without sounding certifiable…So I’m just going to…Quit while I’m ahead.”
Nice Winnie, gold star.

They will always hate us. We will never live in a world of peace. Which is why control and non-violence are essential. We must prove ourselves a peaceful people. We must give the ordinary humans respect, compliance, and understanding. And we must never mistake that for trust.

Emma’s hand reached up, brushing the spot indicated with a small sneer of disdain, annoyed she hadn’t even noticed. Looking back at the other woman, she smiled, “Thank you for letting me know, darling - and really, you can just say something. I don’t bite without an invitation.”

Shit.      “Uh– s-sorry. You’ve got a little somethin’–” A finger rises towards her own face, mirroring where Emma has a wayward fleck of something that shouldn’t be there.

it doesn’t matter if someone loved me                     because it would be temporary.                    at the end of the day, everyone will choose                 the warmth of the sun over the cold.

“Were you actually going to say something, or just keep staring at me? Because, while it is rather flattering, darling, it’s also a bit creepy.”

i chose to leave home. i’d already gotten everything i’d ever need: namely the frost will. will to power. will to thrive. unbeatable, unbreakable. perfect like a snowflake, strong like a diamond. the will to live. the will to teach. the will to teach children - to teach mutant children, like me - how to find… somewhere, within themselves… the will to do whatever it takes to survive. to save and protect those who can’t save and protect themselves… from whatever apocalypse in which they might find themselves… protection from whatever fires… from whatever flames… no matter how painful… and from whatever hells they find themselves burning in. no matter how they got there. that’s how i survived. time and time again, that’s my secret. i survived because i willed it to be. time and time again iv’e seen tyrants crush the powerless. i’ve been crushed by them myself.
how did i survive apocalyptic fire? i simply refused to feel the flames.
