An Update on Art School
Hello everyone! It’s been a long while since I’ve updated this blog. I have been very busy these last few months, especially since I started a new job. I don’t expect the summer to be any different in terms of me running around everywhere. I wanted to update you all on me going to art school. I know the last couple of times I wrote on here I expressed how excited I was to attend my state university’s art department and graduate with a fine arts degree. A lot has changed since then.
I have made the decision to transfer majors and i will now be following a completely different career path in terms of my education. I will always love creating artwork both on paper and on my computer even though I decided an education in art wasn’t for me. At the end of the day this was the right decision for me and I will still continue to pursue my art career in other ways -- just not with a formal education.

People You See on the Street
Tumblr media
Hello everyone! I am hard at work on an illustration piece I am going to submit for a contest in June. If you are interested in this art contest, think about entering! It is being held by Adobe and it is for art students and emerging creators who use their products to create their artwork. If that sounds like you, definitely give it a shot. https://www.adobeawards.com/
This week has been interesting because  I strained a muscle in my left arm when I was drawing. So now I’ve been using my non- dominant hand to work on my artwork. It hasn’t been too bad although progress has been slow. I just love working on my artwork so much that having to completely stop is pure torture. I’m very grateful that I’ve found something that brings so much meaning into my life.

Coloring Purple Hair
Colorful hair is so fun to draw! I want all the people I draw to have creative style since I don’t have much of it in real life haha. I much prefer throwing my hair back up in a ponytail.
I used a colored pencil to sketch out my idea, scanned it, and colored in photoshop using mostly Kyle T Webster Gouache brushes.

Apple Still Life
Tumblr media
I painted this apple still life digitally in photoshop about a month ago. It was incredibly challenging and I’m still not 100% satisfied with it. But there’s something about this piece that I like looking at. After I finish what I’m working on currently, I’d like to turn my attention back to painting more still life. The reference photo I used is from photographer Suzy Hazelwood. https://stocksnap.io/photo/XMXCZM2Q4T

Using Shapes to Create Characters
Hello everyone! I am working on a larger piece but this character I drew will be part of that illustration. I started with shapes to get the form right. It still needs more rendering but that’s all I could get done today.

Process Drawing
Hello everyone. Today I only had enough time for a quick process drawing. But I think it came out nice! I used my Figure it Out! Drawing book by Christopher Hart to get the pose right. First I started out by by sketching the basic form using my Shiyoon small ink brush, then I used a layer on top to put down the clean line art. Next layer consisted of base colors and I used the soft brush to add some variation of tone on the final layer.

I painted a honey jar a few weeks ago. I challenged myself to paint glass and it was so fun. I definitely want to spend more time painting glass and metal surfaces this year. I also had the design made into a sticker through this company called StickerMule. I love how they came out! They were super affordable and the quality is impressive.

How to Color Line Art Quickly in Photoshop
Hello everyone! I made a short Youtube tutorial on how I color in my line art quickly on Photoshop. I start by painting in greyscale so that I can get a sense of where I want my lightest and darkest values to be. When I’m done painting in greyscale I set that layer to Darken or Multiply. I then lower the opacity so that any colors I paint on a layer underneath will show through.
As for actually coloring line art quickly, I use the Brush Tool to create an outline around where I want the color to be. Once that space is blocked in, I then use the wand tool to select that empty space. Then I use Select, Modify, Expand (usually by 2px) and I use the Paint Bucket Tool to fill in the selection.
I also use the Pen Tool to fill in color quickly as well!
Here’s the link to my Youtube Tutorial. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsljG1Cdu0I

The Pencil Exhibit
Hi everyone! This is a piece I created using my Wacom Bamboo Tablet and Adobe Photoshop CC 2018. I used the Pen Tool for most of this piece as well as a speciality brush the clouds and the sand. I can’t remember the exact brush I used but it was probably one that had a watercolor or gouache texture. Hope you enjoy!
