The Lady Chablis, aka The Doll aka The Grand Empress, was an actress, author, and club performer. She is an icon known for her role in "Midnight in The Garden of Good and Evil" (1997). She was a Black trans woman who got her start in gay bars. She also participated in multiple drag pageants. The Doll was beautiful!

Audre Lorde (1934-1992)

Audre Lorde was a writer, activist and professor known for her groundbreaking biomythography "Zami: A New Spelling of my Name". Lorde was also known for her poetry collections "Coal" and "The Black Unicorn". Lorde was an intersectional feminist and often wrote about the intersections of race, sexuality, and gender. She is an ICON and also a lesbian. More on Lorde!

Billie Holiday (1915-1959)

Billie Holiday was a swing and jazz singer knows for her vocal improvisation and delivery. Holiday is known as " Lady Day". She is known for songs "Strange Fruit and God Bless the Child". Post 102: Trans Icons

Ralph Kerwineo (1876-1932)

Ralph Kerwineo was a Black and Native American (Potawatomi and Cherokee) trans man who lived as a man and was married twice to two different women. After being outed by his ex-wife, he was taken to jail and forced to wear girls' clothes. Although the charges were dropped he was forcibly made to live as a woman. His story is sad, but more people should know about it.

Alvin Ailey (1931-1989)

Alvin Ailey is a choreographer, dancer, director, activist and ICON. Ailey was the founder of the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, and the Alvin Ailey Dance Center (aka Alvin Ailey Dance School). He is openly gay and passed away from AIDS related complications in 1989. Ailey is known as a genius in the realm of choreography! Some notable students of the AADS are Bill T. Rebekah Weatherspoon is a author and romance novelist who is known for novels that feature fat, black and queer protagonists. Some of her works include the Cowboys of California and Vampire Sorority series. Weatherspoon identifies as queer/pansexual!

Amber Whittington is a youtuber, activist, influencer and host. She is known for her skits on YouTube and work with other masc/stems/studs on her YouTube and Instagram. Amber is also a former basketball player! She identifies as a lesbian and a stem. Whittington is biracial and black identified. I enjoy alot of her skits, she and her friends are funny.

Ncuti Gatwa is a Rwandan-Scottish actor known for playing Eric Effiong in the Netflix original Sex Education (2019-2023) and as one of a just a few black doctors in the Doctor Who series (2023-2025). Gatwa is queer and loves playing with fashion! He has also done multiple Stage plays, has done audiobook narration and a voice over for a video game. He was also a feature Ken in the motion picture Barbie (2023)

Sesali Bowen

Sedalia Bowen is a writer and feminist who is the founder of Trap feminism. Her book Bad Fat Black Girl: Notes from a Trap Feminist (2022) discusses the concept in great specificity. I highly recommend it! It's a fantastic read and one of my faves. Bowen is unapologetically fat, black and queer!

Niecy Nash-Betts

Niecy Nash-Betts is an actress and comedian known for playing an array of colorful characters. Including Raineesha Williams from Reno 911! (2003-2009, 2020-2022), Desna Simms in Claws (2017-2022) and so much more. She has had a career that has spanned over 30 years! She married Jessica Betts in 2020 and doesn't use any label! Love them as a couple, they are so cute.
