Ryō sighed after seeing the cost of Switch 2 games for his non-Japanese friends and this simply wouldn't do. After all, he loved gaming with them and the console itself was already so expensive! Even here. (😮‍💨 he really doesnt know how he's going to afford it, but at least he doesn't have to deal with import taxes.)

Dipping his fountain pen in crimson ink as a random raven sat on his desk.

"Time to send more ravens to Nintendo...." he grumbled, " 'To my mortal enemy, 80USD FOR A G-"

"Oh, Domino's got even better shopping than most people realize. I can show you all the best spots in town." Unable to help himself, he winked. He was in desperate need of a male shopping buddy. Téa and Mai were plenty of fun to hang with, but sometimes he just needed another man that understood fashion. The perspective was undeniably different, and so terribly valuable, coming from another man.

"As far as opera goes, I've never seen one before, but I'm always willing to try something new. I won't pretend to appreciate it at the same level of sophistication that you can, but I'll try anything once." Duke sipped his drink, almost at the end of it now. "I'm glad that you're not in a hurry to leave. That gives us time to get well acquainted."

And he was truly hoping that's where this would go. At the very least, he wanted to be able to call Sigfried a friend the way Yugi could call Kaiba a friend.

Actually, he hoped it would be much more of a friendship than that.

The perplexed face that Sigfried made in response to his offer was downright adorable, and Duke wished he had a photographic memory so he could save that image for the future.

"A friend... ja, that does sound nice."

Duke beamed, and if he seemed bright before, he was absolutely radiant now.

"Excellent." He sipped his latte and said, "I'm not sure how long you'll be in town for, but I'd love to make plans to see you again soon. I could show you what it's like to have a friend up close before you take off for your next adventure."

The dice-master leaned back in his seat considering what options were available in Domino that would likely be to Sigfried's tastes.

"Unless, of course, you plan on being in town for a while. In which case, we've got a little more time to figure things out."

That left the ball in his court. Sigfried was probably just as busy as Duke, if not busier, but it was important that they made time for this, time to be friends.

A challenge, hm? That opened the door to some fun possibilities. Duke could work with that.

"In that case, Kaiba, I have a challenge for you. I bet you're more charming than you let on. Nobody else thinks so, but I think you could show someone a nice time if you tried. I'm challenging you to be a good date."

Duke sent the message, then paused to consider his challenge.

"I'll have the same challenge, of course: to show you a good time. Not sure which of us has the more difficult task, but I'd love to find out who wins~"

He chose not to define the terms of the victory, of what was at stake to be won.

“Ridiculous! You contacted me just to talk about a new addition to your little goof troop?”

Pegasus was showing off a new toon card one of his designers made. Pegasus also invited him to taste his new brand of wine, which was another line of toon brand. Pegasus asked Kaiba if he wanted to try it.

“And are those photos of you waving that around supposed to tempt me? Well whatever ‘taste test’ you want me to do this time, forget it.”

But those out of context text replies got sent to the wrong number— Duke, not Pegasus.

Maybe he hadn't known Sigfried before this, but the man had certainly piqued his interest at the banquet last night when all the duelists were mingling and announced to the press. He'd had high hopes for where this might go. "Even Kaiba would never go so far as to sabotage the core servers of someone else's company. Not even to Pegasus. And you know what Pegasus did? He abducted Mokuba and tried to take over KaibaCorp."

Duke tipped his head to the side, emerald eyes appraising the frustrated, defeated German in front of him, looking like he wanted to say more, like he wanted a reason to forgive him.

Ugh. Another person judging him.

“I remember you… you’re one of Yugi Muto’s companions. Duke Devlin, correct?”

Siegfried couldn’t bring himself to meet the young man’s piercing eyes as he replied.

“I know what I did was wrong. I acknowledge the damage my choices caused, und I’m accepting the consequences of my actions.”

It wasn’t an insincere response- he meant every word. But it was obviously rehearsed, phoned in. He didn't want to count how many times he'd responded with that exact phrasing before. He couldn't stop people from asking, from shaming, from berating him in public. But he didn’t owe strangers his life story, certainly not to justify anything. However, he did owe anyone who was at the KC Grand Prix an apology. His guilt assured him of that.

That said, he was getting sick of this- of every social gathering becoming a courtroom, of every conversation turning into an interrogation- a demand he confess his crimes for the umpteenth time. It'd been so long since the Grand Prix. When would it stop?

“But that’s not what you want, is it?” He scoffed, bitterness staining his voice. “You don't want me to feel sorry, or for me to do better. I’m not convinced anyone wants an apology as much as you want to steep in schadenfreude at my expense. I assure you, I'm suffering for my evil ways. Nothing to worry about there."
