maccready’s logic in hitting winlock and barnes’ waystation is that the gunners will decide they lost too much money (on the men stationed there and their gear) to make pursuing him worthwhile. but he also, right after saying that, says they won’t know he was involved, so they can’t go after him for it. when the entire point of it was to make sure the gunners knew? not to mess with him? what the actual fuck is this writing, bethesda

what would make more sense to me is this — 

the gunners aren’t financially threatened by maccready, let’s be honest. he’s one sniper; the kinds of people who hire the gunners, an organized merc group with squad tactics and good equipment, are not the same people who are in the market to hire one (1) sniper, and probably are in entirely different price ranges to boot. this isn’t a territorial bitchfight for the sake of money. this is a territorial bitchfight to make a point, because they don’t like that maccready left them and stayed in the region to boot

but how much money are the gunners willing to put down on a grudge match against one dude? if winlock and barnes are sent to harass maccready, and their entire squadron is taken out and their gear taken, it promptly stops being worth it. like, yeah, the gunners would be even more pissed at maccready, but if their primary interest is the bottom line, as maccready says, then they aren’t going to keep throwing money at ultimately a small fry. yes, they’d think that they could overwhelm him with numbers and firepower, because they could, but is the point really worth it when they have other shit to deal with?

so yeah, that’s how i’m gonna play maccready’s logic on that quest. which technically means he’s canon divergent, but fuck it, this is a fix-it situation

I used to get haircuts that cost more than rent for an overpriced shoebox in the Bronx, I’m allowed an off day.  Besides, I work for a living, sweetheart.  Shaping my eyebrows at the moment won’t make my turrets suddenly reach a new level of sophistication.
