it wasn't like there was much to do. she'd heard that there was some ball. some military thing happening that night - and maybe curiosity had gotten the best of her. carmilla plan was just to scope it out, probably not even go in and then leave. but there's a familiar face at the opening, someone who she had seen months prior, in a completely different setting. what were in the chances that they would even be in the same place again, anyways?

carmilla doesn't know any of these people truthfully. a few she's seen around, but none that she actually cared about. getting too close meant the possibility of being found - and that was the last thing she needed right now. but there was something different about the woman she was following inside, something that she couldn't shake. (even if she wanted to)

she's casual, clearing her throat as she approaches her, as if they had known each other forever. carmilla disregards the people surrounding her, eyebrows raising. "may i speak to you in private? apologizes for interrupting." in truth, she didn't really care that much.

dropped all threads. but i've been toying with the idea of attempting to write carm again so. hiiiiiii <3

deep down, she did sometimes worry about her own soul. but that thought process only happened little enough for her to be able to shoo it away. the words that she had said to the other woman had been to sound relatable. to get her to trust carmilla. she'd been around humans enough, she knows that they love talking about themselves. that was always her in. be agreeable. be charming. but cool enough that they know not to mess with you. nobody has to know that she was always seeking out her next victim.

the bar was quiet, which was exactly what carmilla liked. no one would disrupt them, besides, she had slept that whole day. the night was when she really thrived. it was a bonus that the woman next to her seemed interesting enough. it wouldn't be such a bad night, after all.

she sits down next to her, nodding. "exactly why i chose to come here. when it gets too busy ... it's almost painful. all those people lumped into one place..." carmilla shutters at the thought, looking around to make sure that nobody else had come into the bar before turning her attention back to the other woman. "anyways, would love to know why you worry about yours. you seem so ... put together."

The happenstance of one's soul was something that had RATTLED in her mind for some time. There had been moments in her life that she had some belief in religion, that perhaps at the end souls all met up depending on how good or bad they were. Was it heaven or hell? That she was never going to be entirely sure of, all she did know was that she had a profound belief in the great thereafter, just HESITANT to claim she knew whatever that may be.

"I worry about mine as well," wasn't that the truth? It wasn't as though she believed herself to be damned by some choice she had made, but it was hard to believe that she'd find herself somewhere GOOD when all had been said and done. Could anyone so easily say they deserved salvation? Her teeth gnawed into her bottom lip as her shoulders rolled back.

Crystal eyes glanced downward at the glass she had in her hand, a whiskey neat. She had taken the night to herself, to hide in some quiet bar and WORK through the question of her own mortality, in a way. "Care to think about the weight of the world with a little company? Didn't think anyone came here anymore-" Scully let a small smile hum before she took a drink from her glass.

she hadn't meant to be so harsh. carmilla knows that laura is sweet. she's kind. kind in a way that the vampire knows makes her extra sensitive. but her secrets were the only thing she had. maybe she's quick to anger - a flaw that she had inherited from her mother. speeding up the process of being hated by someone who she had begun to care about intensely was not what she wanted. why did humans have to be so nosy? could she not just be happy that carmilla loved her? could that not be enough?

face softens slightly as she feels the other's hand in hers, which was expected. this was always her weakness. the big scary blood sucking vampire fell to her knees when it came to being adored. being known. but laura can't know her, not all of her. "my dear laura ..." free hand comes to touch the other's cheek, turning her face so that she was looking in her eyes again. "i apologize for my words. we shall be patient, all will be revealed in due time. what must you know? i'll say something small. for you, just this time."

she thinks of the nights that the dead woman before them had told carmilla about her life. her goals. she'd expressed a secret sadness - one that the vampire could relate to. and yet .. the taste of her blood lingers in her mouth and she loves it. carmilla had betrayed another friend again, it was just another day. and she'd do it again tomorrow. a new alias maybe ... perhaps she'd try harder to do as she's told. to not linger. but knowing herself, the moment she sets her sight on another ... she didn't know how to control herself. it was like a sickness. a disease. eyes flick down to the body, marveling at the way that everything about her was just so .. perfect. "a vampire never regrets." she muses, trying to force herself to believe her own words.

drolta was so much better at removing herself - perhaps carmilla should take notes. it was her downfall. it always was. a romantic in life and a romantic in death. if she was going to live forever, should she not try to experience the love and desire that she wasn't allowed to while she was alive? perhaps being murdered at that ball was the best thing that ever happened to her, she'd probably would have ended up exactly the the women she fed on otherwise. they weren't so different. eyebrows raise as she looks at the other, tucking black hair behind her own ears. "i'm just saying. it's more interesting to get to know them. aren't the human species both dull and fascinating? you could learn their names."

even with her regrets, she isn't going to turn down food. what else was she supposed to do? this was all she'd ever known. it wasn't really like the other vampire needed her help, if anything it was the other way around sometimes. carmilla takes what she's offered, a smile on her face. "hm, perhaps. next meal is on you, then. it would be quite embarrassing if you're unpleasant. i'd prefer someone who would keep us full the whole day, it gets exhausting having to go and back and find another person."

" ALBEIT, COUNTESS WASN'T EXACTLY LEAVING MUCH ROOM FOR REMORSE——————SHE COULDN'T DISCOUNT THE TRUTH IN THAT STATEMENT. perhaps she was spending too much time around humans. countess karnstein wasn't supposed to care. and she wasn't supposed to admit it. admitting it was a weakness. how was she supposed to show her face ( how was she supposed to face people like her mother? ) if people knew she had a small caring bone in her body. as if she wasn't easily thrown by love. by women that took her heart only to tear it down upon knowing what type of disgusting creature she was. yet she couldn't get away. couldn't get herself to stop.

but she laughs, as if everything she had said was just a test. a joke. if she couldn't laugh along side drolta, then she might as well admit defeat. carmilla wasn't going to do that, not today. she was still the same vampire ... with the same hunger for blood and destruction, whether or not she cared about some useless human. she has to tell herself that it doesn't matter. this is who she was, and this was all she was ever going to be.

fingers wipe blood from her own lips, her face gracing a stoic look as she glances at the other. "she was a sweet girl," she says simply, "i'm just saying it was a shame. doesn't mean i regret it, darling." carmilla hates that she both does and doesn't. but most of all she hates that she knows drolta could use this against her, to discredit her. what would people say? a vampire with a soul was a laughing stock. hell, even carmilla would laugh.
