Unboxing two Lionel Racing 1:64 cars my pal Ray sent me. You may know them from their trains but they make very good 1:64 scale cars. These are on par with MiniGT. Very cool.

Something new for me. This is the Car #19 - Limited Edition - Martin Truex Junior - Bass Pro Shops Camry

Lionel Racing - NASCAR 1:64 scale. These are sold as part of an exclusive licensing agreement between Lionel (known for model trains) and Nascar. Very highly detailed. I am impressed.

This is a 1:64 scale #Ford #shelbymustang I photographed in my studio. My job (as I see it) is to make these three-inch long cars look realistic as I can. It's a very fun challenge.

This is an unboxing video of the MiniGT/Kaido House Datsun Fairlady Z black and gray...This is the latest Fairlady Z from that duo and it may be one of my favorites. I love the opening hood - hard to do well on a 1:64 scale car. Played around with AI to create the background.

I had fun building this little set for my MiniGT 1:64 scale Porsche 918 Spyder in Martini racing livery. I can get lost for a couple of hours each time I do one of these sessions and the best part about it is it's all just in fun.

Now that I opened the Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34) Kaido Works Millennium Jade 2023 MDX #058 1:64 scale car (It's rare) I am using it in some photo shoots - this one with a 1:64 scale figure representing the man behind the car - Mr. Jun Imai.

Mysterious Porsche 911

I like to think of myself as a visual storyteller. Whether I am using stills or video, I still want to capture my imagery with a story in mind.

I wanted to do something sort of Halloween focused but I didn't want to do the spooky thing - a bit overdone in my opinion. So I went with mysterious. It all starts with the very most important thing in my camera bag - my imagination.

I decided to revisit this older photo I made of a 1:64 scale Porsche 911 and build a mood that seems mysterious.

I used lots of work in post to do this. It's ironic how much work I do in post now. I used to do no more than 30-45 seconds per image when I photographed wildlife. I just tried to nail it in the camera. But those were real birds and this is a fake car :).

When I made the original image it was very simple. One large light source just out of frame to illuminate the car which is just a 3-inch long model photographed on a reflective piece of black glass. Everything else was added in post.

Using tools like Boris FX Optic and Adobe's new AI generative art tool - Firefly, I created the headlights, the anamorphic blue reflection on the lights, the blue color grade (accentuating the blue car) and then I used Adobe's Firefly to create a combination of mist and fog to finish off the illusion of a mysterious fog.

This conveys so much more interest than just a straight photo of the car.

If you use your imagination, you can make up almost any story for any image you create. Just relax and go with it. Experiment. Riff on different visual styles. When you have something that speaks to you - chances are it will speak to someone else too. Oh and if you celebrate - Happy Halloween.

Here's another image I made of the Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 KW V2 - White Car #049 from Kaido House. 1:64 scale. See the BTS to get a better look at the set.

This set is made by taking some photos and creating the walls and floor and then printing them onto paper adhered to foam core. Then I placed some small replica parts like the trash can and parts display to add 3D depth.

Datsun KAIDO Fairlady Z Kaido GT Black Limited - Kaido House #031 - I showed the unboxing yesterday. This is a solo photo I made top-down over the 1:64 scale car using my iPhone 15 Pro Max. Post work in BorisFX Optics.

The car features matte grey paint, golden wheels with silver rims (type 2). This is the 15th BLKLTD release, Season 2, Drop 5.

The engine hood can be opened to reveal engine details. Approximate 1/59 scale.
