Syrian Druze families in the occupied Golan town of Majdal Shams gathering at “Shouting Hill” to communicate with relatives in Syria via loudspeaker across the militarised border in 1975. Some of the heartbreaking conversations had, as excerpted from the article reporting on these occasions:
“She's here, she's here!” the excited mother shouted, dropping the boy and lifting an infant girl high over her head. The boy, back on his feet, waved shyly at the distant figure.
“Look at Hussein! Look how he has grown!” a young woman on the Israeli side called in Arabic as she held up a wriggling, curly‐headed boy of about 3.
“He's beautiful, but where is his sister?” a woman on the Syrian side called back.
