they’ve never touched outside of his ripper work on his clinic chair or outside of him helping her practice for fights. he’s never come on to her or made her feel less than safe. she’s never come onto him. their relationship has always been one of mutual respect and totally unconditional love. regardless, they both feel it.
they started communicating it by lingering stares but never letting anyone around them see it. jackie never saw it and now misty never sees it. they don’t want anyone to know. they don’t want people to see their relationship as changing. they feel a sense of shame for even having a tinge of lust for each other. plus, they like hiding. meeting in the foggy stairwell behind the esoterica. nobody who sees them back there will even remember what they saw.
sometimes when valerie is dressed up and has leftover alcohol in her system she’ll show up at the clinic for a check in. get her hair color tweaked or any slight change to her chrome or nails. they stand across from each other, 5 feet apart. smoking cigarettes. valerie lights one up after another and they both grow more and more frustrated. still, never speaking about it.
