My Sporting Dream
For this entry, I recorded audio of myself speaking about my ‘sporting dream’. Unlike many people’s big dreams of making it to the big time, my dream was something a bit simpler but still a dream nonetheless.
I used Adobe Audition to edit the audio, taking out any pauses or audibly obvious breathing. The volume was fine so I didn’t need to adjust that at all. This was much easier than editing a podcast as it was a monologue, not editing a multi-track session. So there was no syncing required.
Using Audition to edit both this recording and the podcast (earlier post) taught me how to cut, shift and and smoothly change the volume (in the podcast).
Using Audition or similar programs such as Audacity are beneficial for organisations as they make it simple to fix and clean up audio. Programs like these are vital as it’s extremely hard and time to confusing to record a whole podcast or speech in one go. Technology can often be confusing or complex but Adobe Audition is far from these two things.
According to Music Radar (2019 it remains the best audio editing tool for podcasters.
It was found by Matsiola et al., (2019) that after being introduced to editing programs (such as Adobe Audtition and Audacity) that students were much more confident and comfortable with being able to make edits and using other radio equipment. This further highlights the importance of Adobe Audition.

Live Stream
For the live steam I decided to stream via Instagram and talked about St Kilda’s season to date and answered any questions that viewers had for me.
I tried my best to make reasonable eye contact with the camera (on my phone) and not pause for too long. I only answered appropriate questions and did my best to be unbiased.
There is a sound that runs through some of the stream which is the fan from my computer that decided to make a noise. I don’t think it impacted anyone’s ability to hear what I was saying though.
Although I came prepared with a topic to discuss, I could have had more concrete points to talk about to have a smoother flow, with more confident filler points.
Live streams are important for sporting organisations because they allow fans to watch a representative of a given organisation speak live and there’s something special about something being seen live, rather than hearing about it later. This is supported by Zhang (2013), who found that there is now a greater importance on real-time interaction and information. This has a dual benefit for both the fans and organisations as they are interlinked and a bonus for the fans is a bonus for sporting organisations.
AV Partners (2021) found that ‘The capability of live streaming has become hugely popular in recent years, especially for events that attract global attention. Live streaming offers people the opportunity to experience events, even if they can’t be there in person.’
This further supports the importance of livestreams for organisations.

Photoshop
We were tasked with taking photos of a landscape, an animal, a person and an object and editing three of them to prepare as suitable for an Instagram post.
The use of photoshop allowed me to select objects and change the colour of said objects as well as cropping or moving them.
Changing the contrast and saturation levels also had a huge affect on the appearance of images.
Photoshop is a powerful tool that organisations can and should use as it allows for more than just basic cropping or colouring; allowing for complex edits. Basically photoshop can turn simple or basic photos into intriguing ones.
The sign photo was made by making the background de-saturated and using the original colour of the sign. This lets the viewer focus more on the sign as it now stands out.
The picture of Steven, edited by selecting the individual stripes from Adidas and the letters of Adidas and changing the colours. The same was done to the yellow (now fluro yellow) paints on the concrete.
The steps/courtyard image was changed by changing the saturation and hue levels, creating a darker but more colourful version of the image.
Horowitz (2017) found that using photoshop to learn photo editing skills is a positive experience for teens. This shows that photoshop isn’t just useful, but is also fun to use. In turn being fun, makes it much effective too as people are more willing to learn if the platform they are learning with.
‘For example, on a free graphics program such as Microsoft Paint, if you draw a line on an image, it becomes flattened on top of it and you can’t move it or add to it. In Photoshop, you can add a layer to your image, draw on top of it, then make any changes required.’ IT Pie (2019)

Interactive Article
I created an interactive article in the form of a preview for St Kilda’s first game of the 2021 season (against the GWS Giants).
I already was keen about constructing this kind of article, but didn’t know how to add in photos and links etc.
Using the WordPress site, we were able to see certain analysis such as readability. Basically judging whether our structure is suitable for an article etc.
The website easily made it extremely easy to embed links and images. The embedding of links and images for an article is of high importance as posts with images gain far more attention. Learning to write in a few lines at a time was also important.
This is very helpful for fans as they can now consume data in a more colourful and accessible way.
Simultaneously interactive articles serve sporting organisations by adding a bit of life e.g. adding a hyperlink or a video etc. This is what makes it different to a regular article in a physical newspaper. It allows them to reach more people.
Fitzsimmons, Wheil and Drieghe (2019) found that hyperlinks or suppose hyperlinks catch the eye of readers more. A study they conducted showed that people are more likely to re-read hyperlinked words. Whilst Global Copywriting (2020) found that hyperlinks were helpful for five main reasons; credibility, increase in views, improves SEO, assists the call to action and is easy to use.
This affirms the benefits of creating an interactive article.

Interview
Luke, Lachie, Steven and I joined forces to film an interview. Luke and Lachie filmed from different angles, whilst Steven interviewed myself (posing as other people).
We learnt the importance of filming from more than one angle, with multiple angles allowing different perspectives to easily be rotated between.
With the use of Premiere Pro, we learnt how to cut video and audio, bringing video across with and without audio.
Premiere pro is an important and helpful tool as it lets you bring in audio and video from almost anywhere and let you edit how you want to. It allows you to put it in the order you want, change volumes in certain areas and quickly swao between angles as previously mentioned.
‘Used by video makers in Hollywood, this desktop app allows its users to transform raw footage into incredibly amazing video products.’ (Compare Camp 2020).
‘When you start Premiere for the first time, you select either an A/B or Single-Track workspace. A/B Editing is primarily for editors who work by dragging clips from the Project window to the Timeline. [It resembles conventional A/B Roll Editing, which uses two videotapes or rolls, A and B, plus an effects switcher for transitions). Alternatively, Single-Track editing facilitates trimming and positioning clips using more advanced techniques, such as, three- or fourpoint editing.’ (Ellerin 2001, p.66)

Podcast
OvLachlan, Luke and myself recorded a podcast about the St Kilda football club and their performance on the weekend. We then individually edited the sound of the recording and synchronised the audio tracks.
Major skills learnt include using Adobe Audition; mainly, cutting audio, shifting audio, adjusting volume of audio etc.
These skills are highly valuable as it is rare to have a perfect recording. Hence editing is required and the aforementioned functions were all required in achieving a final product that I was happy with.
(Trust Radius 2019) highlighted the multitrack feature as being a big positive as it helps a lot with producing content suitable for radio.
A sporting organisation would greatly benefit from these tools as every sporting organisation needs to edit audio. Audio/video recordings are rarely done in one take, with no editing required. The skills learnt while using audition were necessary to produce smooth and professional standard audio that clubs can use or distribute.  ‘On a more practical level, these skills could also allow you to record and package recordings of yourself or others for distribution.’ (Walsh 2016) in regards to using programs such as Audacity (very similar to Audtion.)
