Learning to code on Codecademy!
Codecademy is a free online platform that offers coding courses for beginner, intermediate or even professional coders. They offer interactive step-by-step tutorials for using different programming languages. I chose the beginners course and was learning to code with Python. Below, are the badges I earned working on a few courses. I honestly found the program to be very enjoyable and would likely continue to code considering it would be a useful skill to have especially in today’s digital world.

Driven by a need to inspire others and an ambition to make a positive difference, Nelissa Bustamante is an HR-focused leader you can count on to radiate your workplace with an upbeat, innovative and hard-working personality. She will strive for excellence in everything she does and add value to your organization by developing creative solutions and contributing to new projects and initiatives.
A personal brand statement has to be able to platform an individual’s unique qualities, values and expertise in 1-2 sentences, simple yet memorable. I wanted to choose the traits that people recognize me for and what I believe were the ones that help me stand out from the rest. In creating my own statement, I wanted the reader to feel intrigued after reading it, and feel the need to further investigate. I wanted the reader to be able to connect with my own values, so they would be able to have a better interpretation of who I am and what I stand for. This value alignment will be sure to create a foundation of trust between myself and the reader. I made sure to keep it authentic and demonstrate the skills and attributes that truly define my work ethic and character. I wanted the statement to leave a lasting impression on the reader who I would assume to be anyone in the business field particularly employers looking to fill an HR position. My brand statement needed to communicate and reflect me in the best way possible to increase my credibility and expand business opportunities.

Using Google...
Google offers an advanced power search to be able to refine results to get exactly what we’re looking for. By understanding these search query operators, Google searches will become quicker and easier and directly meet the specifications you are looking for, especially academically. Below are common questions regarding Google power searching:
1. How would you search for an exact word or phrase?
To search for an exact word, just keep it simple and use the term that you believe the author of the webpage would use. To search for an exact phrase, use quotation marks. This will ensure results contain the exact same words and same order of words as the original phrase. To search for an exact word
E.g. “awaken my love!” will provide results of Childish Gambino’s latest studio album
2. How would you search for something on a specific site?
To search for something on a specific site, use the “site:” operator followed by the URL of the website you are searching. Then add the search terms. This will find the exact match or matches of text on the site.
E.g. site: thestar.com justin trudeau
3. How would you correctly search for a definition?
To search for the definition of a word, use the “define:” operator before typing in the word for the search.
E.g. define: prodigy
4. How would you search for a specific product available within a specific price range?
To search for a specific product available within a certain price range, first type in the name of the product. Then place the “..” operator in between the lowest and highest amounts you’d like to search.
E.g. laptop $1000..$2000
5. How would you search for a specific filetype?
To search for a specific filetype, type the search term followed by the “filetype:” operator to find and download the specific type of document you’re searching for (e.g. pdf, doc, docx, ppt, pptx, txt, csv, dat, etc.).
E.g. 1960s fashion filetype:ppt
6. How would you include or ignore words in your search?
To include words in the search, use the “+” operator before a stop word that you want to include. Stop words are commonly used words including- the, how, what, or and other similar words that could be essential to your search.
E.g. +how +to ride a bicycle
To ignore words in the search, use the “-” operator before a word (no space after the minus sign) to erase it from the incoming results. You can use more than one MINUS sign to filter your search.
E.g. Justin Bieber –sucks -bad
7. How would you find sites/pages similar to an existing one?
To find sites/pages similar to an existing one, use the “related:” operator followed by the website’s address.
E.g. related: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/10813/best-chocolate-chip-cookies/
8. How would you confirm the exact form of a quote even if you were missing some of the words?
If you want to confirm the exact form of a quote, type in what you know, then use the asterisk symbol to specify the unknown words
E.g. She took a midnight * going *
9. How would you search for pages containing two connected words?
To search for pages containing two connected words, use the “AND” operator between the two words being searched.
E.g. Starbucks AND coffee
10. How would you search for social media content containing a specific tag?
To search for social media content containing a specific tag, use the “#” operator, then the word you want to search. This search allows you to view all the social media sites that are currently talking about this topic.
E.g. #metgala

Digital Etiquette...
It’s easy to post and share content with others on your favourite social media sites. You don’t really give too much thought about it’s affect on others or the offline repercussions you could face in the future. An offensive tweet or embarrassing post on Instagram or Facebook can come back to haunt you and can cost you your job or prevent you from being hired into an organization. Every photo or post added to your social media, even when deleted, is added to your permanent digital footprint and can be accessed by anyone with a quick Google search. Companies rely on this monitoring tool to avoid hiring or continuing to employ people that could potentially ruin the company’s reputation. Here are some guidelines to follow when it comes to digital etiquette:
1) Posts need to be respectful and well-communicated. If the message isn’t something you wouldn’t say in real life, don't post it.
2) Back up your information with factual evidence before sharing a statement so your audience knows your post is legitimate.
3) Hashtags should have a significance and help to further communicate your message to your targeted audience.
4) Pay attention to your privacy settings. You have the option to share personal posts with only your circle of friends to avoid unwanted attention from everyone else.
Technology has made it real simple to hide behind a keyboard and circulate information and opinions about others. People seem to have no shame in degrading or embarrassing peers or strangers online. People seem to forget their own ethics, morals and overall responsibility of being a good digital citizen. What they also seem to forget is that their irresponsible actions come with consequences.
