Miya Atsumu would never consider himself as someone who was a romantic person.

He didn't have a lot of things in life that could show him what love was.

He learned how to love volleyball, he knew how his brother loved food and how his mother loved them.

But then you came along.

He unlearned how to hate things and you taught him how to look for the good in things and love them.

Like how he loved your laugh, the sound he could listen to forever and ever.

Or how he adored your smile, the one that could always brighten up his day.

Or maybe it was your kindness, your selflessness that made you seem so desirable.

He had tried to be like you. Be kind, be selfless and be himself for you to like him.

But he knew, from the beginning, from the end that he was losing the battle.

The battle for your heart.

He knew, that being in love with you was dangerous.

But Miya Atsumu likes taking risks.

Risking your friendship, risking everything he's unlearned and learned.

Risking himself to the light you hold.

And he lost it all.

To his brother.

The one he had spent all his life with, the one he thought he could always count on, his partner in crime and best friend.

Took a knife and stabbed him in the back.

Which gave the opening for flowers to grow.

Specifically white roses which were always your favorite.

He wondered, as he sat on his death bed if his brother knew that they were your favorite.

Those white roses were now tainted with the blood that filled him.

And yet he doesn't care.

He doesn't care because then that means that maybe, just maybe.

He could be free from this heart break.

Atsumu chuckles making him go into a coughing fit.

God you were something else.

No one had ever made him feel like this.

You were special.

And he had spent his last thought thinking about special you are.

Before the line went flat.

And now, in Atsumu's place there lies something much more valuable to him.

Here lies Miya Atsumu,

A loving son, brother and friend. You will be missed greatly.

“Can I tell you a secret?”

A grin suddenly breaks onto Kuroo’s face as he sees the look of confusion on your own. The six words he had just whispered in your ear peaked your interest and to say you didn’t want to know this secret of his would be a lie. You knew how Kuroo could be — a menace — yet this simple question made you forget about his teasing and playful personality. But you weren’t about to give in just yet.

“Mhm, I don’t know. Do I wanna find out what it is?”

“Well that’s up to you to decide.” Of course he’d say that.

Kuroo, the captain of a volleyball team who’s made it to nationals, the teacher’s pet who’s never not been at the top of his class, the teenage boy who helps his old neighbour with her groceries, and the man who feeds the stray dogs he finds on his way home, is all those things. But he is also your boyfriend.

Your boyfriend who cracks the stupidest jokes that you cant help but laugh at them because your humour is as broken as his. Your boyfriend who wakes you up in the middle of the night because he forgot to tell you about this cat he saw in the middle of the street today. Your boyfriend who knows you havent done your homework and will distract the teacher so that you have time to finish answering this question. Your boyfriend who gets distracted during his matches because you’re wearing his jersey and ends up getting scolded by his coach. And your boyfriend who is currently sitting next to you, asking if he can tell you a secret, during a family dinner where your mom invited him at.

You’re glad that your family is currently too engrossed in their conversation to be paying any mind to the two of you. Because you were sure that if they’d notice, Kuroo would change the topic and pretend later on that he never mentioned any secret.

“And what if I decide that maybe I do wanna know this secret of yours?”

And Kuroo can’t help but smile at you. But its not the kind of smile he’d give to his friends or even his family. It’s a smile that only ever appears when you’re around. It’s a smile full of love.

“Well I guess I’d have to tell you.”

It’s stupid, really. Because, he knows he can tell you anything. And he also knows that your family is currently unable to hear him over all their shouting. But Kuroo being Kuroo has to make everything a tad bit more dramatic than what it actually is.

“Then tell me.”

And as his face gets closer to your ear, you mentally prepare yourself for his next choice of words, since with him, you never know what to expect. ‘Predictable’ has never been and probably never will be a word that could describe him.

“I love you.”

It’s said barely above a whisper, but the three words seem to be screaming their meaning.

And although you already did, now you really think it’s stupid. Because you already know. Kuroo makes sure to tell you that everyday no matter the time or the weather. But even if you think it’s stupid, you smile and laugh. Probably because you’re drunk on his love, and him telling you he loves you just makes you more intoxicated.

Not a single day passes by where you dont think of what you’d do if he were to leave you.

But in the moment, where he tells you he loves you like it’s one of humanity’s biggest secret, where your family is arguing and not paying any awareness to you two, you believe that maybe, you’ll never have to go through this hung over.

"Now that's not much of a secret."

"Is it not?"

"No," you sent him a teasing smile, willfully ignoring the way your cheeks hurt pleasantly. "You told me this before we entered the restaurant."

"And what's the harm in telling you again?”

"My point is that it's not a secret, stupid."

A chuckle escaped him, one he tried to immediately mask with a scoff.

"Well," Kuroo squints his eyes at you, “it’s still the best thing you’ve heard all night.”

More laughter escapes from your mouth at his response. He isn’t wrong, you think. But again, Kuroo never really is when it comes to you.

“So what if it is?”

Another one of his special smiles (as you call them) emerges on his face.

“Well I guess I’ll just be repeating it over and over again.”
