The 5 Letter Proposal - Bob & Natasha #OnceUponaDilMil

Hesitant about online dating at first, Bob definitely didn’t expect to download Dil Mil and find his perfect match literally the next day. 

With everything aligning (she was from the same community, had similar family & life values, and was just as much a foodie as he is), it almost seemed too good to be true, but Bob knew that he wanted to meet this girl in person. Bob was in Atlanta at the time, and Natasha lived in Texas.

With all of the stars aligning, within a month of talking, Bob got an interview with Amazon in San Antonio, Texas, and the perfect opportunity presented itself for him to meet the girl of his dreams. In fact, he was so excited that he asked her out for dinner right after his interview. He recalls the first moment when he finally saw her: he was facing away from a set of stairs, but then he heard her footsteps behind him walking down the stairs. When he turned out, he was blown away by her beauty. They proceeded to grab dinner at the Riverwalk, and the evening turned into a seamless passing of time with every moment they got to know each other more. He mentioned that she was everything he thought she would be & more - basically, she was perfect.

Bob’s trip soon came to an end and he returned to Atlanta, but he also got some good news: he was offered the job from Amazon, and he relocated to Boston. At this point, Bob & Natasha both knew that there was definitely something special between the two of them, so the two committed to each other through the distance and took turns traveling once a month to see each other. They both love exploring cities, traveling, eating, hanging out with friends and family, and jamming out together. With everything fitting into each other’s lives like perfect gloves, Bob knew that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with this woman.

He proposed in Austin, TX with the most beautiful setup: it was on a bridge, and he had all of the important people that meant anything & everything to Natasha fly in from all over the country. There was a pathway set up with candles in Mason jars, and a small letter during every step of the journey. The Cutest Long-Distance Travel Diary: Fayeza & Zayeem #OnceUponaDilMil

Two thousand, one hundred and eighty-two miles apart. Improbable, but not impossible. The East Coast girl and West Coast boy swiped right, and the rest is history.

When Fayeza went to attend her cousin’s graduation in Philly in the summer of 2016, she wasn’t exactly expecting to match with the love of her life all way in Vegas (but of course, she didn’t know this yet). As they were casually talking & texting on the app after they matched, Zayeem had mentioned that he had a trip planned to Nicaragua in the upcoming weeks. However, after matching with Fayeza and talking for about 3 weeks, he decided to forego his Nicaragua trip and came to Atlanta to visit her for the first time instead!

She picked him up from the airport, and they pretty much hit it off right from the beginning. They went to a sushi restaurant for their first date and then proceeded to hang out over the next few days -- activities included strolling in Piedmont Park, grabbing some drinks, and a wine & paint night, where Fayeza mentioned they had some good, serious conversations about life. Fayeza & Zayeem both love to travel, and they’ve kept a little travel diary of all of their adventures. The last two plus years have consisted of three-hour time differences, 48 flights, goodbyes, and loving embraces that had to suffice till the next time they met. It wasn’t always easy, but it was always worth it.  

Fayeza mentioned Zayeem being different from the other guys because despite being a 2nd year medical student, he always made time for her and flew out to see her multiple times throughout the year and made it clear that he wanted her to be an active part of his life.

Soon enough, with things going so well, Zayeem definitely knew that he wanted this girl around forever. He proposed at Piedmont Park in Atlanta (where they had one of their first dates), and Fayeza said yes while crying tears of joy. They are set to officially become husband & wife on April 19, 2019, and we couldn’t be happier for them. Congratulations, Fayeza & Zayeem!

NY to TX: A Beautiful Love Story - Jason & Lisa #OnceUponaDilMil

Lisa wasn’t the only one who was skeptical about online dating, and it didn’t help that when she finally matched with Jason, he was all the way in Dallas, TX while she was in New York. 

But, as soon as Jason sent that first message, everything immediately felt so natural. Both of them came to realize how similar they were despite their different backgrounds, and their chemistry was so natural that even initial phone calls were a breeze - both of them truly felt that they could be completely themselves while talking to the other person.

After texting and talking on the phone for about 1 month, Lisa decided to fly out to Dallas to meet Jason for the first time. They met at an arcade expecting to hang out for about an hour or so, but both of them ended up staying way longer than planned. Although they were both initially a little nervous to meet for the first time, their date ended quite a few hours later with their first kiss.

You Know It’s True Love When Bae Also Thinks Pizza is Bae - Chandni & Harsh #OnceUponaDilMil

So my fiance (Harsh) and I met on DilMil! He lives in Chicago, and I live in Indianapolis. My best friend had downloaded the app on my phone for fun and jokingly said, "What if you meet 'THE ONE' on here?!" I, of course, did not see that happening at all and laughed it off. A day after downloading it, Harsh and I matched and started talking. We realized we were both going to be at an Arijit Singh concert a few weeks later in Chicago in October 2015, so we decided to meet there. When we met, we immediately felt at home with each other, so we made it official a week later. He became my best friend, fought through the distance, and were there with each other through our hardest times in the past couple years.

Although Chandni decided to make her Dil Mil profile a few years ago, she wasn’t exactly prioritizing dating at the time. She wanted to focus more on her career, but Harsh came into her life before she knew it. Harsh on the other hand was looking around a bit, and he mentioned that it had become increasingly more difficult to meet people after college. But you know what they say -- it’ll happen when you least expect it.

When Harsh & Chandni initially matched, Chandni had a feeling right from the beginning that there was something different about him. He was more mature than the other guys she had talked to, and they soon realized that family and friends were very strong values for both of them. The craziest thing is that they discovered that they actually went to the same Russell Peters show a few years before they met, but of course they had no idea at the time and never connected. After meeting up at the Arijit Singh concert in Chicago for the first time, both of them knew that there was something real here. One month later, the two were officially dating. Pizza and mexican food basically became a tradition every time they hung out.

He Proposed to Her with a Peanut Butter Jar - George & Anjali #OnceUponaDilMil

When Anjali first made her Dil Mil profile, she had high hopes and was actively looking for her lifetime partner. However, after some disappointing conversations and dates, she gave up and deleted the app from her phone.

A few months later, one of her friends convinced her to give it another chance, and Anjali took the chance. Lo & behold, she soon matched with George (who is now her incredibly sweet fiance) and actually made the first move. Much to Anjali’s dismay, George didn’t respond, even after 2 days. At that point, she decided that she had nothing to lose and so she messaged George once again. They always had a running joke about how much George loves peanut butter, but that day he got down on one knee and told Anjali that he loved her more and asked her to marry her, and of course she said yes!

A Six-Hour First Date: Sejal & Kunal - #OnceUponaDilMil

The crazy thing about Sejal & Kunal’s story is that they had actually probably crossed paths multiple times over three years in college, but they never actually connected or started talking until they matched on Dil Mil. Before they found each other, Kunal was getting frustrated with his experience on other dating apps, and Sejal’s parents were pressuring her to get married. She wanted to be with someone South Asian, but having grown up in the States, she was looking for that cultural balance as well. After a series of not-so-great dates, Sejal finally matched with Kunal.

After talking for some time and exchanging numbers, Sejal & Kunal finally made plans to meet for their first date on June 18, 2016. What was supposed to be a casual hangout turned into a 6-hour date -- complete with dinner and a terrible bottle of wine (they of course joked about this later). The Best Lijo of Them All — Lijo & Lindsy #OnceUponaDilMil

Believe it or not, throughout Lindsy’s Dil Mil experience, she matched with quite a few Lijos. But there was one in particular — “Lijo Philadelphia” as she had saved him in her phone — who was different. 

Although their conversations started off as generic “get to know one another” exchanges on the app, they were always consistent and authentic. Out of all the other guys (and all the other Lijos) that Lindsy had matched with, this Lijo definitely stood out to her as the most genuine and sincere.

While Lijo was in Philly and Lindsy was in New York, they spoke nonstop for 1.5 months before deciding to meet each other in person. Lindsy works at the World Trade Center in NYC, so they decided to meet at a bar close by (The Maze) for the first time. When Lijo arrived, he was already breaking out in a sweat, not because he was nervous, but because Lindsy insisted he not take an Uber from Penn Station to the bar that was 2 blocks away and just walk in the 90°+ summer heat. They joked about this as they started with drinks to ease their first date jitters, then headed to dinner once they started warming up to each other. At this point, the conversation flowed so smoothly that Lijo mustered up the courage to turn to Lindsy before the date even ended to ask, “so, when am I going to see you again?”

They ended up seeing each other again on a regular basis shortly after their first date, and they took turns traveling between Philadelphia and New York. As they got to know each others friends and family better,  one thing led to another, and soon, they both knew that they were definitely each other’s “lobster” (by the way, Lijo and Lindsy are HUGE Friends fans). In May 2018, Lijo proposed to Lindsy at John F. Collins Park in Philly, and it couldn’t have been sweeter than what it was. 

Leading up to the proposal, Lindsy kind of had an inkling that it was going to happen, but she definitely didn’t expect it to happen the way it did. Leena, Lijo’s cousin, had told Lindsy that they were going out to dinner for Lijo’s birthday party, and told her to dress up because it was at a fancy restaurant. It was raining that day and Lindsy really just wanted to throw on a pair of jeans, but after everyone kept insisting that she dress up, Lindsy kind of knew that something was going on. Plus, she had tried to sign into Lijo’s Amazon account a few days prior to the “birthday dinner” to order something, and she noticed a past order containing champagne glasses, candles, and more, just before Lijo locked her out of his Amazon account!

Fast forward to the day of the proposal: Lindsy managed to dress up and make it to Philly for the “birthday dinner.” Lijo was standing there wearing a blazer under an umbrella. He then took her hand and led her to the park entrance, where there were 3 stations set up. The first station was about all the firsts: their first date, first kiss, first trip together, etc. The second station contained all the memories of their time together as a couple, and the final station was for memories that haven’t been made yet -- their first picture as a married couple, first minivan, first home, kids, etc. Lijo got down on one knee, and of course Lindsy said yes! They’ve been together for 2.5 years now, and we are so happy that they have so many more to come. Congratulations, Lijo & Lindsy!

Take a Chance — Jasmin & Alex  #OnceUponaDilMil

She was always super particular, but Jasmin knew exactly what she was looking for from the beginning.

New Year, New Love — Kristy & Garv #OnceUponaDilMil

When you start off the new year with a first kiss, you already know your year is about to be magical.

Even though it didn’t happen at midnight, Kristy & Garv’s first kiss a few hours later didn’t make it any less special. The two matched on Dil Mil on December 21, 2015, exchanged numbers, and started talking on the phone just two days later. Garv was in Chicago at the time and she was in Indiana, and maybe it was fate, but Kristy conveniently already had plans with her friends to go out in Chicago for New Years.

She met Garv for the first time on New Years Eve (how romantic!), and the two decided to grab dinner together before heading to the house party he was throwing with his friends in Chicago. At dinner, they soon discovered that they had about 30+ mutual friends which they didn’t know about before, and Kristy thought Garv was super friendly and caring from the beginning. After dinner, they parted ways and Kristy went to go meet up with her friend and head to Garv’s party together.

At the party, Garv was busy DJing and being a great host, so he didn’t get to spend too much time with Kristy. However, Kristy still mentioned having a blast at the party with her friend and her & Garv got around to catching up later and ending the night and bringing in the new year with their first kiss. She was still in town for a few days, so she ended up seeing Garv again a few times — once at a chill board game night with their friends, and another time on a second date. Garv took her out to the John Hancock observatory and they grabbed some drinks afterwards, and he told her right then and there that he found her to be amazing and asked her to be his girlfriend.

Fast forward to July 23, 2017, and Garv proposed to Kristy at Horseshoe Bend in Arizona! He convinced Kristy to go on a hike and pose for a picture at the top, as they got ready to take the photo, Garv got down on one knee and popped the question! Of course Kristy said yes, and the two went to Greece later to celebrate and had the photoshoot of everyone’s dreams. They just got married this past October in Playa del Carmen in Mexico, and we couldn’t be happier for them. Congratulations, Kristy & Garv!

When You Know, You Know — Nikita & Mukul #OnceUponaDilMil

One being from Toronto, Ontario and one being from London, Ontario it was unlikely for Nikita & Mukul to have found each other if it hadn’t been for Dil Mil. When Nikita first signed up on Dil Mil, she didn’t have any expectations from the app, but she wanted to put herself out there and knew exactly what she was looking for. Ironically enough, it was actually a Colombian friend of hers that encouraged Nikita to sign up on Dil Mil after one of their mutual friend’s wedding.

After downloading the app and swiping through different profiles, Mukul’s profile caught Nikita’s eye. She mentioned that he had a really witty line in his bio, and he just had this "something" special about him. He knew how to talk to her in a fun and flirty way without being creepy, and she felt as if she could talk to him forever. They often talked on the phone for hours, and she found him to be by far the most interesting compared to other guys she had spoken with in the past. Plus, their personality mix and shared passion for traveling really made the two “click.”

Pretty soon, their conversations had moved from off the app to texts and calls, and Nikita and Mukul decided to meet within a week of matching and talking to each other. They met at a nice cafe for lunch, and proceeded to go to a board game cafe afterwords for their first date. They soon realized that they were both pretty competitive, and they both mentioned that although they were nervous, the date went extremely well and there was definitely an immediate attraction from the moment they met each other. 

Fast forward to May 17, 2017, and Nikita & Mukul got engaged! It was a very special proposal, and although Nikita kind of had a hint that it might happen that summer, she definitely did not expect it to happen that day. Mukul had planned a date night for them, and he told Nikita that his friend wanted to take photos of them for his personal photography portfolio. Her mind being preoccupied with work, she didn’t think much of the plan. When they arrived at the park for their supposed photoshoot, a violinist appeared and started playing as they were walking down a quiet private path. As they got to the end, Nikita thanked the violinist for playing such a beautiful song, and the violinist handed her an envelope with a note that read “Are you ready for the next adventure?”

As they continued walking, they came to a clearing and towards a picnic blanket with some wine & candles (how romantic!) -- this is where Mukul got down on one knee and asked Nikita to spend the rest of their lives together. 😩 Nikita mentioned that she was never the “girly” type, but she was completely blown away by this proposal and it meant so much to her. After the proposal, the two lovebirds decided go away on a romantic getaway to cottage country Muskoka, Ontario to celebrate, and they just got married this past June 2018 in Toronto, Canada! Congratulations, Nikita & Mukul!

He Proposed to Her in a Harry Potter Themed Escape Room — Avni & Aseem #OnceUponaDilMil

When you start Facetiming your match almost every other night, you know it’s real. 

Upon matching with Aseem, Avni mentioned that they hit it off so well that they moved from messaging on the app to texting to Facetiming in a matter of just a few days. After Facetiming for about 1.5 months, Avni finally decided it was time to meet her future husband (even though she didn’t 100% know it yet). He was the only guy she ever decided to meet from Dil Mil, and it was apparent that the two had as much chemistry in real life as they did when they were talking virtually.

She wasn’t expecting anything to come out of Dil Mil, and she certainly didn’t expect to feel so comfortable around Aseem from the moment they met. They got pizza together and watched Gone Girl for their first date, and a few dates later they knew that they were the one for each other. Both of them are very family-oriented, and they share interests when it comes to traveling, TV shows, and Bollywood music (they exchanged a lot of songs when they first started talking on the app!). They’ve also learned to appreciate each other’s individual interests -- for example, Avni has started watching more sports because of Aseem, and Aseem has picked up more reading because of Avni.

Soon enough, Aseem knew that he wanted Avni in his life forever, and he proposed to her in a Harry Potter themed escape room! The clues in the room led her to the proposal, and the last clue read “You’ve been matched, turn around Avni.” When Avni turned around, Aseem was down on one knee. 😩 They’re getting married next summer, and we can’t wait for Avni & Aseem to spend the rest of their lives together. 💕

That Moment When You Unmatch Your Future Husband on Dil Mil Because He Had a Man Bun 😂 - Parth & Miral #OnceUponaDilMil

Upon matching with Parth on Dil Mil in December of 2016 and despite talking for a few hours, Miral actually decided to unmatch her perfect match! (But of course, she didn’t know he would become this just yet. 😉)

“Well initially when we started talking, I unmatched Parth after a day because of his top knot and beard - two things I despised and found very unattractive.”

But Parth wasn’t one to give up. He mentioned how he had hit it off immediately with Miral, and he was really drawn to her because she watched Game of Thrones (it was listed in her profile description) and actually went to the same college as him, but they never connected while both of them were in school. With his top knot still intact, Parth found Miral on Facebook and messaged her again.

“Once we started talking again and after meeting him in person, I loved it as it matched his personality and gave him a unique look. Our very first meeting, I felt very comfortable with him and instantly felt like I could trust him – something that usually takes me a very long time to do. I learned not to judge a book by its cover. :)”

Why did you guys decide to meet each other?

“Once we started texting each other, we spoke on the phone the following week. The first time we spoke on the phone we talked for 3 hours and the time just flew by. We spoke on the phone every day after and then on December 19, 2016 Parth came down to see me in Savannah. What was it like the first time you guys met each other?

Miral: “We decided to meet at the mall in Savannah where I was working. I felt a little nervous as I had read a whole bunch of reviews of how bad and unsafe online dating is and of course kept thinking the worst. I worked part time at the mall and Parth walked into the store, we said hello and semi-hugged, then grabbed lunch once I was off. Although initially a little weird, I soon felt very comfortable, we were able to talk as if we had known each other for years.”

Parth: “I drove down four hours from Atlanta to see Miral for the first time. I am generally a calm person, so I wasn’t nervous, but I was excited to meet her as this was my first long distance relationship. At that point, we had been talking every day for two weeks so I already felt comfortable with her.”

What were your views on dating/relationships before you got on Dil Mil?

Miral: “Dating was a process for me. In my past relationships, I never really connected with my partners like I connected with Parth; it certainly is a different feeling and now I believe that saying when people say ‘You will just know when you have found the one.’ I never understood what that meant until recently.”

Parth: “Dating is important in order to really get to know a girl. I had a few previous relationships that did not work out because the girl and I were not compatible, which we discovered through dating.”

Parth & Miral have been together for about 2 years now, and they recently got engaged in July 2018. Miral was completely taken aback as Parth popped the question on their vacation to Alaska over the summer, but of course she said yes! Harsh always said that he would NEVER start watching The Bachelor for anyone, but that certainly changed when he met Nina.

When Harsh & Nina matched on the app, neither of them expected for anything to actually come out of it. It turns out that they were both in the same area in Houston, but they never met until they started talking on Dil Mil, which eventually led to their first date: rock climbing. Even though it was their first date, both of them mentioned how it felt like they’d already been on 400 dates together -- they learned so much about each other and were so comfortable right from the beginning. Harsh even mentioned how at one point during their date, the light hit Nina just right and he thought “wow, she looks like my wife.”

Nina appreciated how Harsh really put in the effort to get to know her and was committed to developing a successful relationship from the beginning. It was apparent early on that he would stay true to his word and always be there to support her, and she knew that she had found her soulmate. Harsh also mentioned how they really compliment each other well and that she’s the most beautiful woman he’s ever laid eyes on. The two have been together for about 1 year now, and they’re getting married this upcoming November! The Time It Worked, Didn’t Work, But Worked Again, This Time Forever - Ravina & Malav #OnceUponaDilMil

Being on and off the app for about a year, Ravina definitely didn’t expect to get back on one day and match with Malav within 10 minutes of downloading the app again. There was once a time when girls had to make the first move on Dil Mil, so she decided to take a stab at it and asked Malav how the app works as a sarcastic conversation starter. The conversation flowed to him mentioning that he was watching Andaaz Apna Apna, and they both laughed about the fact that there was a girl named Ravina in the movie.

One thing led to another, and Ravina mentioned that Malav really stood out to her because of how well they clicked, and they talked day and night from the beginning. It was clear from the beginning that he was different because he made the effort to really get to know her. In turn, Malav mentioned that Ravina really stood out to him because every time he talked to Ravina, even if it had been a minute, it always felt like they just picked up where they left off, like she was a lifelong friend. With never running out of topics to talk about with each other, both of them knew there was definitely something special between them.

Despite hitting it off and establishing a friendship in the initial stages, Ravina & Malav suddenly went from talking all the time to not talking for a little over a month. Having given up on him, Ravina even removed his number from her phone. They rekindled their relationship when Ravina had a chance to move closer to him, and they finally met for their first date in September 2017, after which they both ended up getting food poisoning -- talk about bad luck! Despite this, they ended up spending the weekend together and took care of each other, and they’re still there for each other to this day. They recently got engaged in July 2018, and we couldn’t be happier for them! Malav & Ravina's story just goes to show that even though something may not be working now, it doesn't mean that it can't work later. True love is always worth the wait. Rima & Sahil - “Accidentally” Married?? #OnceUponaDilMil

“Soooo we accidentally got married, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.” - Rima & Sahil, 2018 😂

When you go into a pooja thinking that you’re going to be officially engaged, you don’t exactly expect to get married instead.  But this is exactly what happened to Rima & Sahil on June 17, 2017 in Rima’s parents’ living room. What was supposed to be a short, religious engagement ceremony turned out to be a full-blown 3-hour long Hindu wedding ceremony. According to Rima & Sahil, there was some miscommunication between the priest and the parents, and the two ended up married sooner than they expected to be. Despite this unusual turn of events, Rima & Sahil were so happy that they got married the way that they did, and they wouldn’t have it any other way. <3  

Before you guys got on Dil Mil, what were your views on dating/relationships in general?

Sahil: “I was at a point in my life where I was finishing school and starting getting out there, but I wasn’t looking for anything serious. I wasn’t looking to date but I was open to it if someone came along that I could see a future with.”

Rima: “I never was in any relationships throughout college because I was just focused on myself and I didn’t want to get ‘trapped.’ I also never wanted to get married because I didn’t believe in the concept of marriage and participating in societal norms but that changed when I met Sahil.”

Were you expecting for anything to come out of Dil Mil?

Sahil: “Getting on Dil Mil was very casual, I wanted to really just check it out, I had no real expectations that it would work, just more go-with-the-flow attitude.”

Rima: “I just decided to try out Dil Mil since my friend told me about it and I thought ‘Why not? I’m not going to lose anything from this experience.’ It was more out of curiosity than really expecting anything.”

What made Rima/Sahil so special compared to other people you had conversations with?

Sahil: “I felt there was an instant connection and I could talk to Rima easily. It wasn’t until we stopped talking for a couple of days, but then we picked up right where we left off and I realized that Rima and I have a lot of similarities and I can truly be myself with her.”

Rima: “Sahil was the only person that I held a conversation with and I never got bored or uninterested in what he had to say (and I still don’t!). There were a couple of days where he didn’t text me back, and I decided to double text him because at that point I thought ‘What do I have to lose?’ And thank God I did, because we haven’t stopped talking since then. We can talk about anything, and we never had to make an effort to fill the silence or force a conversation.”

What was it like the first time you met each other?

Sahil: “I got on a 7-hour flight from London to Fairfax -- I was very nervous, didn’t sleep on the plane, and was very unsure of what would happen. But as soon as she picked me up from the airport, we clicked right away, and it felt like we had always known each other forever.”

Rima: “The day before we met, I had just come back from my cousin’s wedding in India so I was up all night doing laundry, cleaning, etc. and I couldn’t sleep because I was too nervous.  But we went together like PB&J right when I picked him up from the airport, and everything felt so normal.”

Rima & Sahil have been together for about 3 years now, and they’ll be celebrating their love with a beach Reception in Tampa coming up soon! Since they didn’t have an official wedding, Rima says they will be going “all out” for their reception. We are truly excited for them to celebrate their beautiful marriage with their friends and family. Congratulations, Rima & Sahil! 💕

Archana & Gopal - More Comfortable Out of Comfort Zones #OnceUponaDilMil

Isn’t it crazy how you can be around someone for practically your whole life, but never really connect with them? This was the case for Archana & Gopal, until they connected on Dil Mil. 

For numerous years, these two had been in the vicinity of each other practically their whole lives -- they even attended the same family events and mutual friend birthdays and gatherings, but never officially met in person.

Fast forward, and one day the two matched on Dil Mil, where they hit it off and talked for about 2 weeks before deciding to meet up for their first date. While the usual thing to do is go out for dinner and drinks, Archana & Gopal decided to take it to another level, where they dared each other to fun challenges the whole time and actually followed through. Gopal loved Archana’s energy and both of them reflected on what a great time they had the first time they met each other. After hitting it off in person, there was no doubt that they were both very comfortable being outside of their comfort zones around each other.

Throughout the 2.5 years they’ve been together, Archana & Gopal enjoy sharing their passions with one another and each other’s families. They’ve grown a lot throughout this time, and their wedding date has been set for August 18, 2018. 

We are so incredibly happy for them, and we can’t wait for them to officially tie the knot and spend the rest of their lives together!
