Creating the last 40 seconds of my animation

The last 40 seconds of my animation was the interrogation scene. After creating these scenes all I had to do was do a re touch-up of the animatic as a whole and do some sound designing. I wanted to make sure that none of the sounds that I used were copyrighted.

Creating the last 40 seconds was quite fun since this was a complete new challenge. The soldier walking up to the boy slowly, talking to him and trying to convince him to join Silvercrest, but also animating the Jellyfish attack was a whole new experience.

Using an already rigged soldier character from Sketchable to blockout the final scenes - The Silvercrest Confrontation

I got the low poly game ready character in order to play the soldier of my animatic. Most of the animations were handmade and some were extracted from Mixamo just for the animatic purpose. This was to visualize what the final product will be and note that no downloaded assets, characters nor animations will be used for the final animation. Everything will be hand sculpted, retopologised, textured and animated and will be presented as original work be me.

The geo node setup took a long time to create but at the end of the day it was worth it. I was able to get the effect that I needed on the 3D software itself rather than adding it later on After effects.

Creating electricity lightning effect using Geometry nodes on Blender
To create the electricity effect in my project, I used Geometry Nodes in Blender. Since this was a new area for me, I started by watching a bunch of tutorials on YouTube to understand the basics and how others approached similar effects. After experimenting with different setups, I managed to build a system that generates animated electricity-style lines using curves and noise modifiers. GeoNodes gave me more control and flexibility compared to traditional animation methods, and it allowed me to keep everything procedural.

Feedback session on 29th April 2025
Today I was able to get feedback from both of my lecturers and this time for the animatic draft 2 specially. I explained to my lecturers how I am having a hard time trying to edit the clips together and to narrate my story.
Here are some things that I have to change in my animatic for it to have a better flow.
During the invasion scene when the call comes you can show a close up of the boy. The boy answering the phone.
Then an extreme close up to his face.. This will show the fear in his eyes.(anticipating an evil visitor)
A gunshot(SINGLE) A GLASS BREAKING SFX. FOOTSTERPS.
Next scene the soldier will come and look in the room just to realise that the boy has escaped through the open window.
The phone on the ground.. dad still speaking.. Niko.. Niko..
Then straight blackout with the wind sound hustling..
Suspense music.. start.. eerie almost scary.
During the scene in which the boy travels through Dreamscape.. Make the town look like a ghost town.. A town that is falling. make it seem like the jellyfish and the boy are trying to give life to this place.
Final scene a closeup of a light turned into a flood light.. and bring back that glitch effect.. to show that the park has converted into a base.

This is the draft of my animatic. Right now I would say up to 70% of my animatic's work is done. I still have failed to find a connection between some of the scenes so that everything still feels not assembled properly. I have to finish the remaining 30 seconds and rework on the soundtrack of some bits for the final draft of my animatic

For the title screen, I thought of having the word Dreamscape displayed in a massive neon light panel. I initially had an idea to make this in 2D using after Effects.. But I realised doing a 3D animation like this would be more matched with the style of animation that I’m using for the animatic.

Thoughts on the Animatic so far…

1 week away from submissions I think my animatic is finally taking shape. After stage 2 presentations, I was in this state where I felt like the idea that I had in mind was not really going to the audience.. It was quite hard to summarize my idea into a small 4 minute clip.. after making the draft 2, that changed. I feel like with a little bit of more touching up, I can deliver a product that is really impactful to an audience and I’m rooting to it.

The Park turned into a Silvercrest Base
A children’s park is the pinnacle of a child’s imagination. When Niko enters the park premises, the whole park lights up and the carousel starts to turn. Within a split second, the audience realise that the park is only the kid’s imagination.. an escapism from the harsh reality of the real life situation. In reality.. the park is destroyed and converted into a Silvercrest military base

So I took the project file of the park.. and started adding changes to it.. one of the main difference that I did was changing up the lighting of it.. and I was able to find some photo scanned free assets to hat I added to the scene to bring it more life into it. Overall I liked it and I was ready to go.
