Magical Beings- ideas for your story
Demons: need I say more? Dog demons. Snake demons. Hot demons. Cold demons. Satan himself? Yes. Write demons who try to do the right thing every time, but always screw it up. Demons who desperately want to climb up the ladder. Demons desperate for attention….even from an angel.
Gods: They can be anything from omnipotent & benevolent to petty and annoying. Use inspiration from different mythologies (Greek, Roman, Norse, Indian, Chinese, etc.) or create your own gods to suit your story/world! Ex: the Percy Jackson series has the best representation of gods with different personalities/flaws. Honestly I LOVE renditions of flawed gods compared to the all-powerful kind. They’re usually more fun to read about, too.
Spirits: nature spirits, water spirits, undead spirits, animal spirits, spirit animals, etc. There are so many ways to interlace spirits into your fantasy story! They could be guides, antagonists, or even the main character!
Heavenly Underlings: this could be anything from angels and harp-playing babies to cold, ruthless cloud creatures that run the universe and carry out the will of a God/celestial being.
Witches/Wizards/Warlocks/Sorcerers: Sorcerers are typically more advanced or have been training for many years, and warlocks tend to dabble in dark magic. Example: Harry Potter did it most famously, but that doesn’t mean there can’t be a hundred different takes on wizards that could be equally as good (or even better!)
Genies/Djinn: Who wouldn’t want a handy-dandy wish-granting spirit that’s bound to a worldly item of your choice ?? (Hint: it does not have to be a lamp). You could make them a malevolent spirit or even a morally grey bad-boy with a sad backstory! Example: The Children of the Lamp Series has a really unique take on Djinn! I’d definitely recommend.
Prompts/Examples
Go off of your favorite myths, or create your own completely unique hierarchy of magical beings/demonic creatures/heavenly beings! Here are some random examples from the top of my head:
Banana Republic: This fantasy empire thrives on bananas. Bananas are rare and essential (for god knows what). Bananas are even used as currency! But why, you might ask? The empire’s patron god is Pomona, Roman goddess of fruit and cultivation. A hundred years ago, she created bananas, and has been partial towards them ever since. In an effort to avoid the goddess’s wrath, the empire decided to put the stupid yellow fruits on a pedestal. Until…..mangoes.
Just Spritely: The protagonist is a fire sprite who hates the volcano where he lives. He wishes to become a water sprite, but unfortunately, only a God can perform this magic. And boy, are they tough to please. This lonely fire sprite explores the treacherous world outside his volcano and tries (and fails) to impress various petty gods.
Genie-us : a forbidden love story between a genie who is tethered to a bottle of hot sauce, and a sorcerer who’s only goal in life is to rid the world of all spice. After butting heads for centuries, they decide to work together. Villainous romance? I think so.
Angelicious: The story of a goal-oriented angel trying to raise his rank and live in luxury! His only guilty pleasure? The food at served at Lucy’s Buffet, one of the premier five-star restaurants in the underworld. Will his vice prevent him from becoming an Archangel?
Dragon Dealings: There are 6 dragons that control different realms of this fantasy world. Each dragon has a completely unique personality and unusual pet peeves, and each of them despises at least one other dragon. This means that the realms are constantly in conflict with each other, and turmoil is the natural state of things in this world. One day, a seventh dragon is born. Except she’s not a dragon.
As always, be creative. Nothing is off-limits. And feel free to use any of my prompts in your own story!

Every scene (or chapter) must further at least one of three four things:
1. Character
2. Plot
3. Theme
4. Wild card- use this for your weird ideas that you fell in love with. Any cute interactions. Any…saucy scenes with no real plot involved. Any humorous moments that some may deem ‘unnecessary’ to the storyline.
Not everything has to have a purpose. If you want to write it, then its purpose is to exist.
#uncle rick take the wheel #write what your parents would kill you for #please do not dip your bananas in ketchup #this is not an excuse to write plotless smut #you don’t need any excuses to do that #writingadvice
