Matt didn’t really want to admit that the thought had crossed through his mind more than twice. “You know me Riley...I tend to jump to the worst possible conclusion. I’m just glad you’re okay.” He was still breathing a bit heavily from having run all the way over to the hospital, and he still felt tears in his eyes.

He really wanted to know what happened though, but he wouldn’t be able to ask with Chase there in the room since he didn’t know Riley and him were Power Rangers. All he knew was that Riley was sent to the hospital, because he had hung up on the nurse before she could give him any more possible details.

Riley blinked in surprise as the door to his room slammed open, and there stood Matt, who was - crying?

“Matt?” He asked worriedly. “Hey, I’m okay. Chase saved me.”

The brunette squeezed the hand Chase was holding, before letting go to beckon his brother over.

“I actually have Fridays off,” Ivan smiled.“So that works perfectly.”

He’d never met somebody like Matt in all his years, and Ivan couldn’t believe that he’d said yes to this…for lack of a better word, date. But he wanted to know more about this man, and by God, that was what he was going to do.

Matt clapped his hands. “Well then, it’s a date! We can meet up here ‘round three if you’d like.”

He was pretty excited for the date, he had to admit. Both his uncles and even Riley had pestered him about the fact that Matt hadn’t even been trying to make friends since he and Riley got to Amber Beach. Denying party invitations and staying home or wandering off to some park on his own. But actually meeting someone he was interested in...it was nice.

“Well, I’ll see you on Friday. My little brother just got off work and I promised him I’d get him McDonalds. It was nice seeing you again Ivan.” He gave the man a quick side hug before waving goodbye.

Matt felt like a damn fool, letting his tears trail down his cheeks as he went over to his brother and hugged him as gently as he could. Riley was at least able to speak, which eased him a bit. God, this was like when Riley was 5 all over again. He had fallen out of a tree he’d been climbing and broken his leg and Matt had responded by becoming a sobbing mess because he didn’t prevent it.

“You’re...You’re still alive.” He breathed.

He had noticed the Kiwi on the ground, and Riley had mentioned that he had saved him. He squeezed his eyes shut and rubbed away the tears. He’d have to thank him later. But for now, his focus was entirely on his little brother.

Matt had felt his stomach drop as soon as he found out his brother was in the hospital. His breath caught in his throat and he stood frozen for a good minute before he finally broke himself out of it and nearly sprinted out of his Uncle’s apartment. Uncle RJ had called out after him.

“Aren’t you going to eat? You haven’t eaten all day, where are you going?”

“Hospital. Riley.” Was all Matt could muster, and Uncle RJ understood because he let Matt go.

He probably could’ve driven to the hospital, but no, his mind clearly wasn’t working because he was sprinting instead, rubbing his eyes furiously as tears threatened to fall and flashes of horrific thoughts floated through his head. Riley covered in blood, Riley broken and still, Riley, Riley, Riley.

It was all a blur, but at some point a nurse likely directed him towards his brother’s room and he all but burst in and only managed to say ‘Riley!’ in a strangled voice.

“Chase?” Riley interrupted his rambling, reaching out and fumbling to catch the older male’s hand. “It’s okay. You found me and saved me. You couldn’t have done anything more for me.”

The younger brunette smiled lightly. “And who knows, maybe Matt will get off my back about you since you saved me.”

He squeezed Chase’s hand before flushing and dropping it once more. Wow, he was so pathetic.

Matt smiled and bumped Ivan on the shoulder. “You sure do talk funny, Ivan. Then I guess before I invite you over we’ll have to spend at least a few more times together. How about coffee later this week?”

Matt hadn’t actually flirted with anyone in awhile, and was almost shocked at his forwardness of the entire situation. But for once he wasn’t feeling tense or nervous like he usually did around people. Ivan seemed different, in more ways than one.

“I could say the same thing to you,” Ivan chuckled back, nudging Matt back. “And that sounds lovely actually.”

The former knight’s mind was buzzing with all kinds of thoughts and while it was almost too much, too confusing, it was comforting in a way. He hadn’t felt like this in a very long time. And hell, Matt was probably the cutest guy he’d seen around this town, in his eyes at least.

“That’s settled then! I dunno your schedule at all, so you’re going to have to film me in. I get out early on Friday though, if you want to do it then.”

He definitely felt happy and relieved that Ivan had actually said yes to his proposed coffee date. The man certainly was an odd one, but Matt was eager to know more about him.

“York huh? You’re from pretty far then. Yeah, I guess this place does have it’s charm, even if nothing beats the rolling countryside.”

They stopped in front of the exhibit about horses, but Matt oddly enough couldn’t bring himself to actually start his spiel about it. His face still felt a bit warm, but he still turned to smile at Ivan. “How long have you been here in Amber Beach anyways?”

“Yes, it’s in the northern part of England. Rich moorland country, lots of sheep.” Ivan chuckled for a moment, remembering his tussle with one of the local sheep farmers after returning from his training in the grand city of York.“You might be right at home there, actually.”

“A few years. I traveled quite a bit after leaving home, and somehow I just ended up here.” Ivan smiled back at Matt, watching how the cowboy reacted to whatever he said.

“Mmm,” Matt hummed. “That sounds amazing. It’d be nice to see it someday.” He was being genuine when he said that, not just fake politeness to keep the conversation going.

“Traveling huh? I’ve never done much myself. Only reason I ended up here was because of my brother. I’d rather much be home.” He laughed. “Hey, maybe if you miss home you can come visit mine. Probably won’t be exactly the same but there’s something comforting about the rolling countryside.”

He had only just met the man and already he was inviting him to the ranch. What had gotten into him?
