" SERIOUSLY ? and i thought my brother was a nerd that's---- what did he even teach it to say. " honestly zach could see gray trying something like that with the cat, not that there'd be any real RESULTS, but it was the thought that counted. queenie hissed more often than she mewed. he could hear the pair of them ( gray and whatever the other kid was called ) mouths working mile a minute about this kind of -saurus or that kind of -raptor, whatever. he tried to tune them out, way more interested in the DIMPLE-SMILED guy at his side to really care. it gave him an out, a genuine reason to ignore gray without bringing his mom's wrath down on him when they got home ---- it's not like zach actually CARED about any of the endless dinosaur facts that spilled from his brother. it had barely been half a day and he was already sick of it, and the crying, and the constant BICKERING. maybe having a little nerd friend would get the kid off his back for a couple hours. they'd been queuing for what felt like an hour, and just when he'd been thinking 'what use were the VIP passes if they still had to wait forever', he'd shifted too far forward and bumped into the guy in the next cutback of the line ( and man, was he grateful for gray right then and there, rant about the special edition JW pin attached to the guy's brother already half-way out of his mouth before zach had even managed to APOLOGISE ) .

part of him wanted to snap at her ---- so NOW she as offering sage advice ? years of nothing but a card at christmas, maybe a present at birthdays if she remembered, and claire thought she had the RIGHT to stand there and- but that wouldn't be fair, not after everything. she was trying. which was more than he could say for his dad scott at this point. so yeah, zach had thought why not ? claire was experienced, she knew what to say and when to say it, how to put herself ON TOP. the obvious choice to help deal with the fact some of the other guys on his course were being assholes about his experience in mechanics and yeah, it was starting to get to him and his work but he could handle it. " and what do i do if being MYSELF is actually worse in this scenario ? i guess i could always switch schools. " he added as an afterthought, corner of is mouth pulled up in the start of a smirk. and wouldn't his mom just LOVE that.

give me two characters who are each other’s home. two characters who feel completely safe, warm and protected in each other’s presence, and who are completely respected by the other. two people who, on some level or another, were missing that little extra spark they needed to feel fully confident and accepted as their whole selves until the other came along. they don’t “fix each other” or “make each other better”–they give the other the support they need to build on what was already inside them. sure they might kiss, or make goo-goo eyes, but they can also just…talk, and make each other laugh and smile, because for once they feel comfortable enough in themselves and with each other to be vulnerable in that way. two complete people who finally find someone to share all of themselves with. and no matter what they do or how far they go, they’ll always have each other to come back home to.

.&& headcanon #01

when zach was a tiny little thing barely 3 years old, scott and karen took him to the pet store near them and let him have free reign over picking a pet to take home and love (after strongly telling him whatever it was would be his responsibility of course). the second he got past the first few cages, his bright brown eyes fell onto a litter of kittens quietly mewing for attention and scrabbling at the sides of the cage. at the very back of the pack, a tiny black and white kitten struggled to be seen and heard above its siblings and it turned it’s big green eyes on zach and that was it. queenie (as she was smugly dubbed in the store not even seconds after scott paid the cashier) became a member of the family - a grumpy one, as it turned out. the only person she even remotely tolerated was zach, following the boy everywhere as they both grew up, pawing for attention and curling up on his chest at night when he was reading in bed. she loathed scott with a vengeance, and could often be seen tearing at his legs and feet whenever he went near her or zach while she was present. zach found it incredibly amusing, and still does to this day - when a slightly older, and considerably larger queenie attacks scott on his way in from work every night.
