Here are three tracks from the upcoming album. These may not be finalized versions. All of them are performed and recorded in realtime. The full release is due at an indefinite point of this year. The artwork is not finalized.

I feel inclined to mention these tracks are extremely experimental in terms of sound design, nontraditional in terms of composition, and require a healthy attention span to truly experience. Ultimately no different from the majority of my catalog.

Have a drink. Smoke some herb. Close your eyes. Breathe deep. Listen.

the Womb

the Womb is a space for creative gestation, exploration, and expression. Such is the space we currently inhabit. Constructing the functional capacity for in-depth, dynamic creativity has taken its toll on our time but we are headlong bound for what abyssal lights await our will, to bring them forth to you as song.

‘Vintage’ E-mu Samplers and Gotek Floppy Emulators

I’m posting this because I was unable to find any literature regarding this specific case on the internet.

Some quick notes for proper installation and formatting of a Gotek Floppy Emulator in an E-mu EIV Classic series sampler.

Before installation, set the jumper on the pins labeled ‘s0′.

After installation insert usb stick and hold both buttons on the Gotek while powering on the sampler. The display on the Gotek will begin counting upward from 0 to 1000 while the E-mu continues its boot process. (The E-mu boot process may stall a bit as it attempts to contact the floppy drive, this is normal.)

Once the E-mu boot process has completed it will take a couple minutes for the Gotek to finish its format on the usb stick. Once the format is complete the display will return to ‘000′.

Restart the sampler. It will boot normally and recognize the Gotek as its floppy drive.

Now comes the tedium. Unfortunately, with the classic (pre-ultra) series samplers, the proprietary OS requires floppies to be formatted by the E-mu system (at least in the case of this Gotek and its virtual floppies), so, it is necessary to format each of the 1000 virtual disks on the thumb stick.

This is a daunting task. There is no bulk function to accomplish this and each format takes about a minute. The result is an investment of ~1000 minutes, just about 17 hours.

Fortunately, this is a one-time investment with worthwhile results, as having a 1.5gb removable solid state drive does make for a solid backup system.

SELF DISCOVERY THROUGH CREATIVE EXPRESSION

The self is essentially a collection of relationships between the body and the endless array of stimuli encountered every moment of every day. The preferences we form in relation to those stimuli (whether consciously or unconsciously) define the ways we interact with the world, while the ways we interact with the world defines who we are to both ourselves and those around us.

This process creates an interesting result; that we are each more than one person. We are simultaneously the person we know ourselves to be, as well as the person others know us to be. Different people will each see us from their own unique perspectives, which even further multiplies the number of selves we potentially have; but which one is the most genuine one? Who are we really? This is one of the most important things we can discover through art.

When we are struck by something we consider meaningful (intuitively or intentionally), and take the time to express that meaning creatively, we are making it a priority. The meaning we prioritize in our art is a direct reflection of what is important to us, as well as an expression of how and why it affects us. It is through this lens which we may begin to understand and recognize our 'true selves'.

Truly we are all quite multifaceted. Our 'true selves' include the entire range of emotions and the corresponding behaviors we exhibit under their respective influences. While our moods and emotional states are perpetually changing, there is certainly consistency to our expressions in each respective state, as well as a tendency to gravitate towards particular states. These trends become apparent in our works and may allow us to reflect on our lives with an ever growing clarity.

The clarity afforded to us through reflection on our creative expressions over time is a great vehicle for self-refinement. Our growing body of work allows us to see, in each piece, aspects of ourselves which we may have been blinded to while under the influence of our emotional muses.

At this point, should we have the strength to honestly accept what we see of ourselves, both our best and our worst, we may acquire a new ability to understand our own depths; to discover the truth of our own motivations. This form of self-knowledge is invaluable, as it may allow us to put to rest whatever ghosts may haunt us, and move perpetually on to ever newer stages in our lives.

Of Persistent Moments

Greetings...

This site will be the place for all information coming and going on diogenes in hell.

Last year was mostly a period of hibernation and gestation which brought a few unexpected turns to the course of my labyrinth. The biggest change came in the form of a physical upheaval from the woods of Connecticut to the hills of Ithaca, NY. Ithaca has been welcoming in its own ways... as much as a city can be to a hermit. 

Since the upheaval I've been pleased to participate in a couple interesting projects. Included in these is a collaboration with fashion designer Rachael Reichert for her short sci-fi film, Cybelle Horizon, which can be viewed here:

For both projects diogenes in hell returned to the more electronic side of its roots, which is not necessarily a reflection of my works upcoming. 

A new, full-length album is planned for production in 2014. While maintaining the feeling of Venus Dominating the World (available here: https://diogenesinhell.bandcamp.com/album/venus-dominating-the-world ), the new album will traverse a bit of fresh sonic territory. For now this is all I can say but more info will become available as plans roll forward.
