The more I develop and grow as a sport dog handler and professional trainer, the important AKC's Canine Good Citizen program becomes to me.

Following the rules as an evaluator is equally as important as finding an evaluator who will be willing to test dogs fairly, even if that means not passing them that day. For that reason, I hold off until my dogs are adults and book an appointment with a trainer whose integrity I trust to test my dogs.

I'm so proud of both of these dogs for finishing off their trifecta this week. I'm proud of myself for laying solid foundations for Valkyrie and putting in the work to rebuild TenSoon's, so they could both have reliably sound public access skills. I'm proud to share my life with two certified Good Dogs.

genuinely puzzled by people who do not enjoy training their animals and/or think it’s ‘mean’ to have trained them to respect boundaries and rules. like yeah your dog would probably prefer to jump up on the table and eat your food but that’s how you get Poisoning bro. sometimes humans do know what’s best even if that’s mildly annoying to your dog

Man I wish I had some kind of counting pattern game… that helps with prey drive over arousal… and is gundog friendly… built around positive reinforcement… everyone recommends controlled unleashed but that’s only a few games I want some more games… maybe if different difficulties… I can use in different situations…

More recently, a breeder I know is trying to get her Akbash pup back after a novice owner decided he wanted to turn the pup into a service dog, who is extremely stressed and overstimulated… Its not that they’re incapable of doing a different job, but like it says above… don’t think you can so easily tun Cujo into Lassie.
