Though he had rather wished to respond with some witty remark, or at the very least one of his fluster-inducing comments, but neither could form in his mind. Instead, there was a small sigh of relief when Villefort had joined him.
“Much better.. Thank you...” He managed after a moment more, his reaction delayed but at least there as the Shin had heaved himself over to face the young man, only to proceed to invite himself to rest half-across Villefort’s chest, head at his shoulder a long few seconds of silence from him before a fingertip quite suddenly gave an idle, weak prod at the other’s chest, “Mh, ’nd don’t forget, you said breakfast too...” Shirogane added, before he finally allowed his eyes to close as they had been begging to since the moment his back had met with the bed.
(@lexvide) Villefort came practically crashing through the door and in his arms, a tiny yelping form wrapped in a finely decorated Parisian robe, undoubtably belonging to Valere. He looked around frantically, the corridor seemingly empty, before he found himself almost screaming the word in desperation. "Aider!"
@lexvide
Shirogane was sat in the young man’s study when the cry for help snapped his attention from the pages of yet another book he had helped himself to from the shelves. He had been around the young man’s presence for quite some time now, and he had never heard such pure panic in the other’s voice before. Dropping the book without much care to its pages, he’d taken brisk strides to the entry hall.
In his rush it wasn’t until he had his hands upon Villefort’s shoulders about to ask what had caused such upset that his eyes fell upon the dog he’d held. While he was not fond of animals himself, Shirogane had grown rather fond of the spaniel, and he knew for a fact that she was Villefort’s closest companion.
“Whatever happened?” He asked quickly as his hands left the young man’s shoulders to touch against the bundled figure of the creature, though the longer he had looked, the clearer the answer became. Beneath the robe he could already see her usually pristine fur matted in red. “Oh dear…” He whispered under his breath before eyes shot up with a glance of urgency much akin to Villefort’s own. He could heal yes, but if she was too far gone there may be nothing he could do, “Let me see her– Show me what happened, won’t you?”

A few moments had passed of Shirogane simply allowing his eyes to wander the room, taking in a few gradually blurring details until his attention was caught by Villefort’s words, giving a small shake of his head.
“I do not wish to sleep alone-- If that had been what my request was for I could have taken Benoît’s offer of his bed..” He mumbled, while heavily, and slowly he’d turned onto his side, dragging himself up to at least slip beneath the covers however. Now, in his right mind his next words wouldn’t have left the Shin’s lips, but as the shot of whiskey was beginning to take affect with the combination of his blood loss, that part of his mind was not truly in function; instead, he spoke his concern aloud, “If I sleep now, how do I know that you won’t leave once my eyes close..?”

The walk itself had been at the perfect pace for Shirogane to manage to keep up without too much strain, though due to the stairs and his current lack of strength the Shin had found himself somewhat out of breath by the time that he was sat upon the bed, head spinning in the midst of it.
“Perfect, thank you--” He muttered, as he disguised an unintended fall of his head to the side as a lazy glance at the bed itself, “My my, this does look comfortable..” He muttered, hands shifting to push himself a little further onto the bed before simply giving in for the time being, letting himself fall back against it with a huff of breath leaving him, “The fire too- so warm..”

Shirogane, perhaps a little too gladly for his own liking had let himself sink to lean against Villefort’s side when he was linked, though keeping as much weight off him as he believed himself capable of carrying.
“I would tell you the answer if I knew it myself, you understand.” He replied after a moment with a half-smile, free arm moving round to pat against the back of Valere’s hand before slipping to hold lightly over his own side, “I know that it hurts, but at present I’m not entirely capable of knowing how much.. Take whatever speed you wish, I’ll let you know if I need to move slower.”

With secret relief that there was at the very least no questioning of his given reason, Shirogane had fumbled for a moment more with the robe before he had finally managed to tug it on with a slight wince at the uncomfortable twist it required he make. If he had been feeling more like himself, he would likely have given his best, smuggest smile to Benoît at his success. Instead however, there was only a small smile in its place as he held an arm out in the pair’s general direction once the robe had been somewhat clumsily fastened.
“If it isn’t too much of a bother, I believe I would however appreciate help in making it to the bedroom.” He confessed with a touch of what he hoped sounded like humor behind it. He didn’t wish to appear too pitiful, after all.

Taking the robe from Benoît with another quieted chuckle of his own, Shirogane had prepared himself before hoisting himself out of the chair with a stagger, catching himself against the hearth he had been leaning against earlier. The impact had him gritting his teeth, but he supposed that he had at least not fallen. Clearing his throat, he had let the robe fall unfolded, somewhat awkwardly attempting to slip the garment on.
“You will have to forgive me, his amusement is entirely my doing-- I told him of how very much I wished to share your bed for tonight..” A pause, while he’d managed to at last get one of his arms inside fully without the silk slipping off, taking the time here to consider just what he could say to get himself out of trouble before he was actually in any. He didn’t wish to lose the opportunity after all, “It seems he found my request rather amusing considering what it was repayment for; isn’t that right Benoît?”

Shirogane managed a smile at the sight of Benoît’s return with his requested drink, having been about to reply before the valet had appeared. That however could wait for a few seconds, he was sure. With a small wince as he leaned forward to place the chalice back atop the table, he’d taken the whiskey in the process of sinking back into the chair, swallowing it down in one swift movement. He wouldn’t usually opt for something so strong, but right now he believed it to be more than worth the exception. Once recovered from the rather sharp hit to his throat, he released a sigh, nodding in silent thanks to Benoît before he’d finally given his reply.
“I will say to you what I have said to Benoît-- If I feel any need for a physician, I will let you know immediately, so please do what you can to avoid worrying over me..” A pause took the form of a quiet, somewhat hitched chuckle at the repeated thanks he had been given, a slight shake of his head following it, “You really needn’t thank me so much.. You’ll make me feel guilty for the repayment I requested, silly thing.”

Shirogane gave a small nod at the question of taking the wound before taking another sip of his water, letting himself sink just a little deeper into the chair. He was pleased to at least see that Valere wasn’t about to over react to the news. That was precisely the worry that had prevented him from explaining in the beginning.
“No, not the bullet. The bullet was destroyed when I was healing Faline. If I hadn’t done that, either she or myself would have..” He began quite suddenly when he sensed the growing concern as it seemed to be setting in with the young man, “I will be perfectly fine, you must remember that I am not like you-- I just need rest, Benoît has done all that is necessary.. You needn’t worry about the bullet, or internal damage. As long as I keep the dressing tight enough to prevent the bleedng, I will recover in time..”

Shirogane gave a small nod at Villefort’s answer of Faline’s well-being. It was a relief to know her appetite had remained through it. When the other’s eyes moved to the bandages however, the Shin had taken a slow sip of his water, drawing it out for the sake of buying himself time to consider exactly what sort of answer would be best. He decided, as he lowered the chalice, that the truth was probably his best option. Especially since Villefort could use Benoît to confirm or disprove his story.
“You’ll have to forgive me for not explaining to you from the beginning, but you seemed concerned enough without my adding to your stress.” He began, taking another, smaller sip of water, voice a touch weak though he forced it to carry as steadily as he was able to, “My usual magic was not enough to heal Faline; she was too far gone. I could only take away a small amount of the damage with such a thing, the rest I had to take into myself.” He explained, free hand settling lightly against the bandages to direct his meaning, “Faline being so small, and I so large in comparison to her, the wound itself changed size-- Enough so to match me in its growth.” He stopped there. It wasn’t characteristic of him to speak so bluntly when explaining, but at the moment he didn’t think he’d be too capable of any confusing quips and topic-dancing. He was barely capable of sitting upright.

“Thank you, Benoît..” He’d muttered through a smile. When Villefort appeared with such a question however, Shirogane had managed a faint chuckle. He couldn’t deny rather looking forward to getting into bed at this point, and was rather certain that if he spent more than a few more minutes where he was sat, the chair would end up being his place of rest for the night.
“For once, I don’t believe I am.” He replied, quietly but still with a half-smile, “Benoît was just going to fetch me a night robe and a small whiskey for the pain.” Shirogane explained, leaning with a grimace to help himself to refilling his water. It was surprisingly difficult not to spill it at current, though he managed to at least only let a couple of drops fall, “How is Faline?”

“Yes, yes, I’ll be fine-- A few days rest and I will be up and about again, you’ll see..” He reassured through a half smile as he raised the water to his lips, starting with a sip, though once his breathing adjusted to allow it he’d taken several deep swigs, emptying the chalice before he lowered it again.
The fact that his joke was missed had meant one of two things-- Either his tone hadn’t carried as he’d wished, or Benoît was too concerned to have caught it. He believe however, that it was a little of both. Of course, he wasn’t going to turn it down if such a thing was going to be accepted.
“How about this-- A night cap of whiskey, and I will drink all the water that you wish me to, hm?”

At some point, he wasn’t quite sure when, Shirogane had bitten just a little too hard against his tongue, yet in an odd sort of way the taste it had caused was playing the role of a distraction. Slight, yes, but a distraction all the same.
When at last Benoît was done, the Shin released a large, shuddered breath-- It at least seemed that he needn’t be asked to sit down again. That much was done automatically as he turned, staggering the couple of steps to the chair to sink down into it with a second huff of breath, taking the water with a nod of thanks.
“I-I don’t suppose you’ll allow me.. anything stronger than water?” At least he still had the energy to tease.

With a small nod of his own, Shirogane had used the arm of the couch to balance himself as he stood. He stumbled slightly as he made his way to the hearth, but he at least managed to keep his balance despite his head seemingly wishing to pull him down. Folding his arms against the top of it, he’d leaned his forehead against them, taking as deep of a breath as he could manage and exhaling in a rather large sigh.
There was a slight wince with the first loop, however he was quickly proved very right in his thoughts of having a sore tongue when his teeth quickly sank into the muscle as the winding had grown tighter, fists clenching themselves. Rather than speaking at first, he gave a small nod at the question of tightness, only replying to the latter comment vocally.
“Y-You’ll know if it’s too much, thank you Benoît..”

“I know that I can be really quite dreadful, but I’d never do such a thing in front of his clients--” A pause as he’d shifted somewhat when the cloth was removed, shaking his head at the apology that he was given for the pain. “For his clients I reserve the smaller things-- Moving their cups just out of reach for a tad of harmless confusion, perhaps at most I’ll make a floorboard creak if they look particularly bored, nothing more.” He summarised with a small titter of his own.
At last, he had managed to sit himself almost upright, giving a slight nod, “As tightly as you can stand to, Benoît. Would it be easier for you if I were to stand, perhaps lean on something?” Despite being the one at risk of possibly bleeding out in the middle of the night if he hadn’t requested such a thing, Shirogane couldn’t deny feeling oddly guilty for asking the young man to do it so tightly-- He’d seen Benoît’s reaction to the effect of the cloth, so he imagined that he would find himself with a sore tongue by the end of it to keep himself quiet for the poor thing.
"Aider!"

“It was precisely because I wished to see his response that I used such phrasing.” He confessed with ease, a faint chuckle slipping from him after a moment. “It was most definitely worth it.” What Shirogane didn’t confess however, was that more than just for the sake of entertaining himself, his humor had come into play with the hope of distracting Valere from his stresses at the time. Another confession not to see the light of day, was that he was growing increasingly light heated as he sat before the young man. He refused to concern himself with that until it came time to stand again.
He smirked momentarily at the huff received from Benoît, and had been about to reply to the likely joking suggestion of a bet, but found himself interrupted by a slight hiss at having believed the cleaning was over. Thankfully, as it only lasted for a moment, he was able to relax again quite quickly. He was dreading the bandages, knowing they’d need to be pulled as tightly as he could handle if he didn’t wish to continue bleeding through the night, but he supposed it would be worth it. He wouldn’t be waking up alone after all, so that was certainly something that he could look forward to.
“I bet that I can make him put up with me for the night.” He stated after a few seconds had passed, smirk slowly working back onto his lips, “I’ll happily wager whatever you like on it.~”

“Of course I did it on purpose.” He remarked with a rather smug expression working its way onto his features despite the still present strain, “I did precisely the same with Monsieur Villefort before explaining my meaning.” He confessed with a nod of confirmation, a soft chuckle accompanying it.
Ah yes, that extra tease was certainly worth it-- He gave a quirk of his brow, smirk returning once more, “Ah, so you aren’t denying that you’d like to?~” Of course, he understood that the young man was merely fumbling with his words because of the fluster that Shirogane had paused-- That however, didn’t make it any less amusing to the Shin. At comment of how terrible he was though, his features shifted to feign a pout after a small sigh of relief when the cloth was lowered away for the time being.
“How very cruel of you Benoît, I am not terrible at all-- You know full well that I would not be half as much fun to have for company if I lacked my sense of humor now, don’t you?”
